I'm guilty of being one of the forum warriors I guess. I like talking a lot and well, more often times than not, it gets me in trouble lol.

Not necessarily because the RUF is quicker. Realistically it's maybe only worth 2 or 3 tenths in my opinion.

The racing after the initial mayhem is usually no different than any other series. A few wrecks here and there because of a misunderstanding or lack of respect from two or more drivers. It's just those first 5 laps or so that cause the problems. Because there has never been a series where you have a group of 15-20 cars run nose to tail together for 5 laps straight, nobody has got even the slightest of clue as to how to race in that sort of situation. Most of the first 5 lap incidents that I've seen are a driver getting caught out by the "Accordion Effect." What usually happens is that they will either rear end the car in front, or they will dive to the inside for a really late overtake. Either way, it usually causes a fair amount of problems.

There's also the lack of patience argument that is pretty prevalent in every iRacing series starts. People think that being a hero on the first few laps when things are way bunched up will make things better. I think I've shown multiple videos here where I've either stayed station even though I could have overtaken the driver in front, or I've even been known to let people by quite easily despite being for position. In the end, I'll usually still finish in front of those people or can race my way back up once things get spread out.

Having really good Racing Awareness is something that is really important in a series this competitive and unfortunately, it seems that many have yet to learn this.

Patience is something that is drifting away from the sport in real life as well. Even though, I think it's the most important part of racing and I've benefited from being patient more than a handful of times in real life as well as in the Sim.

The "heros" are the main problem but lets not forget the lap 1 "I'm going to drive safe, as in 25MPH under the apex avg speed, braking 25M early" and the "My Q laps was 1 in 100, my race pace is split 2 at best". Those groups have given me more headaches than the "I think I'm Senna" guys in the RUF series.

So what's a good strategy around guys who have qualified similarly, but choose to start defending hard on lap one w/o even being attacked (and allowing the rest to catch up)? Stay far enough behind so that they don't feel threatened?

Really I guess the best way to deal with it is to use your mic if you have it. Tell the guy, "Hey, I'm not going to try anything. Just run your line"

In my dreams, I run a successful multi-class league using the Ford GT, RUF C-Spec and Late Model called the American Endurance Championship that does 90 minute - 2.5 hour races on Daytona, Sebring, Interlagos, VIR, Mosport, Watkins Glen, Montreal, Road America, COTA and Road Atlanta, and has full grids every race and races on weekends.

I try to avoid using mic for those and similar purposes. Talking to the other drivers in this manner sounds like collusion and is not realistic. In GT5/6 I used the bumpdraft to signal that I'm not gonna overtake early. Here I'm moving to the proper racing line early, usually sacrificing a bit of draft, and not attempting to pass after their first few mistakes, but some people just cannot take a hint.

Another 'strategy' is gently nudge them in a corner to get a gap of a couple of seconds, but I'd rather not use it too ;)

I heard once that all races are won on the opening lap in turn 1 ;)

Communication is always key. ;)

Your real racing teams would be doing this and would establish a common ground via communication.

Setting up the voice activated software to allow a private channel to the driver would slick. However I haven't bought that $8 program to tinker with. So not sure it's possible.

Oh my, look what the cat dragged in. :D How you've been buddy, haven't seen you around in some time now. Last I heard you were packing it in for iRacing, good to see you back again SW :)

Hey left!

I still lurk around iRacing. To be honest, probably last game on the list I want to get back into. AC, rFactor 2, GT6 and F1 series is keeping me very busy.

Reason I have been lurking around more than often is because I am looking to upgrade my gear. I just missed out on buying the DSD pedals today (was busy buying a car!) so now I will wait for the reviews to get that or a HPP. Or I might get a T500 and upgrade the wheel to Sam Maxwell....

Over a year ago I set out a certain goal. I came so close to this certain goal on many occasions (Literally 2 points away a week ago) but, could not achieve it. Now, after a lot of hard work over the past week. I can gladly take my 2 month leave of absence from iRacing in peace :)

Congrats Shinya 👍

Do we have any other GTP'ers in the 4000 club around here ??

Or what are your iRating goals, if you have any ?
(Don't want a My iRating is bigger than yours discussion, just curious if you set targets, if you even care or not about iRating etc etc)

Id like to get my irating to 3000 but im not to worried about it. Ive been lingering right below 2500 for awhile now so one day ill get up there. I just dont want my irating to fall below 2000.

Cool to get legitimately.

I'm at 328X but I only like the RUF and MX-5 Cup so it hard to lose iRacing when the avg race is sof 19XX.

I just want a 2500 iRating for both road and pval ut I suck and I don't think I will ever reach that goal.

Didn't we have a Pro in iRacing that was on these forums?

Running at peak times in high SOF rooms. Much harder than just grinding out one of the lower series.
Ah Ok
I always kinda believed all iRating gains are deserved, wether high or low SOF's. Obviously in a high SOF race you deserve any gains you can bank, but in a low SOF race you still have to keep your concentration up and not make any mistakes even if you have no pressure from any other drivers.
I kinda look at like (comparing to F1) even though Schumacher and Vettel had the best cars on the grid to win their championships they still had to turn up and perform every weekend without mistakes.

I care, from the sense of, I usually like to get in the top splits so I can see if I make the livestreams for Road Warrior ect. But, realistically it doesn't really matter. More of a personal goal to try and get to. If I have no goal to search for, it's hard for me to push to the next level. Similarly, I try to enter as many high SOF fields as possible because, it forces me to have to try and push above and beyond what my brain is telling me to do in order to be competitive. I guess my next goal will be 4500 :)

I realistically only run Proto & GT in the high SOF times. Mainly because that is the only times that go official. Whenever I run the high SOF races for GT3, I usually finish inside the top 15 but, that is more because I got through the carnage rather than was legitimately that fast. I'm actually not really fast enough to have 4000 iR, I did it all by finishing races on a consistent basis lol. I mean, 50% Top 5 percentage and 80% top 5 percentage in 2013 will pretty much do it.

Any tips Kamuifanboy? I found great difficulty reaching high SOFs as it only takes one poor driver on the field to ruin it for every body and it happened too often. Especially at low SOF fields accidents was quite frequent making it difficult to ever get out. It was easier and safer simply to let people pass - which defies the reason to have competitive racing at all.

Easiest way to give your I Rating a big boost is to do well in week 13.
I went from 1140 to 1352 in 3 races. My goal was 1500, but my migraines kicked in and I was not
able to do any more.

I bought a Momo from Sam About a year ago or so, awesome wheel. Just amazing how much better it is from the stock wheel. I haven't done much racing lately, won my division in the Riley DP over the winter and now I'm taking this spring and summer off. I'll get back at it in the fall. It's good to see you around again SW. :)

Just thought I'd let you know that I'm not ignoring your post. I'm just massively busy right now with various things. The things that @noshog quoted are kind of the basics but, once I've landed in the States and have a good amount of time, I'll type up a much more indepth guide on things.

@Jav Do you still race the C6R a lot? I did a test in Interlagos with it and it is so much fun with NTM5. Might consider switching to it from the HPD next season.
