I will be buying this game because it's going to offer the most authentic NASCAR experience ever. It has all the tracks, all the cars and what looks like a compelling handling model so it's a must have if you ask me. I really liked World Of Outlaws and this looks to be a step up from that so it should be fun. Racing on tarmac is easier for me compared to dirt.

Also the game is available for everyone on the PS Store. Don't know what @tankuroded is on about.

Really looking forward to this, haven't played a NASCAR game since NASCAR 99 on the N64. Should be fun to have 40 player multiplayer races on the road courses especially.

Seeing as the DLC packs are paint schemes and firesuits, I guess there's no livery editor.

Not in Asia. Most NASCAR console games were never available in Asian region, but with NASCAR pushing for international expansion, I was hoping this could change.

Around 1/3 cheaper to order from Iceland than the UK, read they don't need a VPN if buying from Europe...

A few more details from an article over on Overtake.

60 fps on console. VR unlikely, even on PC. Potentially a yearly franchise like the F1 games. Based on the iRacing physics but not the full thing copied over.

Road course gameplay - they can turn right!

Follow-up: Apparently you can buy NASCAR 25 in Japan/Asia on Xbox, but not on PlayStation.

By the way, I'm curious about NASCAR 25 too, but its release date is October 14th, which is pretty close to Project Motor Racing, right? If it comes out and the reviews look good, I might buy it.

Pre-Ordered, looking forward to this, enjoyed oval racing on iRacing but haven't bought a NASCAR game since probably 2015. This looks to be ticking all the boxes, and having the circuit models/scans and cars directly from iRacing is a nice bonus in terms of authenticity. Career mode sounds right up my street as well.

Also:
For the upcoming game, NASCAR ’25 will utilize the traditional sandbox-style paint scheme editor, giving users the option to create designs and logos using shapes. This style of paint booth was utilized in the most recent NASCAR game, NASCAR 21: Ignition, made in 2021.

Although fans are not allowed to upload sponsor logos or team number fonts, during a recent interview with OverTake_gg, Producer Matt Lewis stated that he believes the paint booth will be “advanced from, I think, anything they’ve seen in prior titles for sure.”

Lewis even said that players will be able to theme their hauler and pit boxes, among other items, to match their paint scheme.

It seems they've held back features from the editor so they can sell paint schemes as DLC.

DLC items will include 200+ paint schemes, extra firesuits, $10,000 career bonus dollars, 1,000 career bonus reputation, career VIP employees
Don't like that, but maybe I'm misunderstanding how it'll work.

I think it's much like the previous titles where real world race specific liveries will be offered as DLC. Wonder if they came across some licensing issues with the real world sponsor thing in the editor like WRC and F1.

Ok this looks really good. I was worried the career might be too easy on the ovals, but it seems you need to really spend time upgrading to compete. I think I’m in.

From comments elsewhere it looks like this vid has reassured and convinced a lot of people.

Yeah fantastic in depth look, really like how the career mode looks, nice depth, learning curve, the paint booth looks solid, pumped for this now.

Sold! This is exactly what I wanted but whether I commit to a full career is another story...

Can't wait for the PC version to drop and we can mod in all the alcohol and Monster Energy schemes back in :D

If it's Unreal Engine (which would explain why we're missing tracks from iRacing :grumpy:), we can even inject VR support.

The tracks are actually ported straight from iracing. I know Mexico is missing as it has only very recently come to iRacing but other than that all the track and car models are straight from iracing.

But yes it is unreal engine.

Ok first impressions after an hour or so of gameplay on PS5.

First up, well done iRacing, out of the gates with no tweaking, it feels great on a controller. Not easy to do and not easy for a NASCAR game.

I went straight in on the hard preset which sets driving assist and wall assist to zero with 15% stability control. Normal controller preset (there's 2 preset controller setting configs, normal and precision and then a custom one to tweak linearity, dead zones etc manually) and jumped into an ARCA Chevy on Charlotte.

Felt natural pretty much instantly, it gives you the confidence to build up and start attacking the track, in fact it put me right back into iRacing in terms of how to drive Charlotte, even after 10 years. Did qualifying, put it 13th (AI set to 97 on the hard preset) did the race, just 7 laps. Again more positivity, AI are fun to race with, they are aware of your car, they race you, they take multiple lines, they race eachother and it's intense. Finished P7.

Next up I jumped straight up to Cup series, Chicago street with Jimmie Johnson. Again the circuit shines with iracings precision laser scanning really giving the circuit life, Chicago is incredibly bumpy and the cup car felt twitchy but not in a bad uncontrollable way, just a, keep on your toes kind of way. AI weren't quite as good here but still fun to race with, started P40 and finished P17 over a 5 lap race.

I'll take this moment to mention the visuals. On the whole it looks absolutely fine. The circuits look fantastic as you would expect given where they have come from, same with the car models. It's just a little rough around the edges, noticed the odd frame drop here and there, it's a typical Unreal engine racing game but with a bit more polish close to the camera. Only visual setting in the menus is Vsync.

Then I took an Xfinity series race on Darlington, a personal favourite from my iRacing days. Again the logic of how to run the circuit is still there, risk the high line against the wall or keep it lower. Loads of fun again and reminded me why I loved Darlington in iracing. Had another fun race, starting P9 and finishing P9 after a rollercoaster of a race. Saw AI make a few mistakes, getting wide into the wall and spinning out.

Sound wise it's brilliant, each car sounds meaty, the AI cars around you sound excellent, good feedback from tyre audio and the sound in replays is also very good.

Final race I tried was a truck series race on Bristol speedway, what a hoot, just loads of fun, again enjoyable racing experience with the AI, had some really good battles over the 18 laps. Witnessed the AI taking multiple lines again (example below), racing hard, just very good in this regard. And even on the short track it felt great on the controller, not too twitchy, superb.

Lastly I had a look at the paint booth. Some cool stuff in there, plenty of schemes, numbers, surprising amount of sponsors as well. Will be able to make some good liveries. I've thrown in a screenshot of a quick one I came up with.

So far, so very good.

I don't want to start this post with a negative but there's no way for you to make your own control layout. There's only 2 preset options available so I have to use automatic gears instead of manual which is a problem for road courses. Not so much for ovals though. Anyway I did a few laps around Chicago in Shane Van Gisbergen's cup car and bumped the wall many times because I didn't know the braking zones. The brakes themselves did feel rather shocking and there were bumps everywhere, which unsettled the car a bit. Thankfully the physics are forgiving enough that you can get a good feel for what the car needs. Yes, you can spin out but if you are smooth with your steering and throttle application, you'll be fine. Next thing I did was drive around Rockingham in Jesse Love's Xfinity car and WOW is that track faster than I expected. It was great fun to try different lines and catch a few slides through turns 3 and 4. Now I get it. Like Richard Hammond said, an oval is "complex" and "3 dimensional" because you're running on the absolute edge the whole time and a small slip up will cost you dearly. At least on Rockingham anyway. Maybe not Martinsville but I haven't tried that yet. I also did a few laps around Sonoma in the Xfinity car and it definitely feels like a fish out of water. I'll need to spend some more time coming to grips with it. Overall, I'm very pleased. This game is sure to keep me entertained for a while.

Just purchased the Gold Edition. Downloading.

Edit: ** Preempting my post with don’t anyone compare this game to GT and Forza. This ain’t that kind of party**

  • 40 cars on track is cool
  • No haptic feedback makes the controller uncool. Haven’t noticed if haptics can be activated.
  • Full Practice, Qualifying, Race and race stages are cool.

* I have to say for this game a wheel is going to be the best if you want to do full length races*
I did two stages of 16 laps each I was thinking, “Yeah, wheel.”.

Graphics are fine for managing 40 cars and all the game adjustability. What I expect for “Sim-First” games like Assetto Corsa and PCars.

Static replays around the circuit are fine. The camera shaking when no cars are around probably needs a fix.

Lots to do in this game. I had a go with the trucks. Selected the F-150 at Limerock. Enjoyed qualy and the race. The cold tyres and wheel spin and handling need more feedback from the controller. Again, the remedy is probably just get a wheel. Other than that, I’d love to try this game with some 1960s thru 1980s Stock Cars.

Hmm, some varying opinions here about pad gameplay. I’m not interested in early access or the season pass, so I’ll hold off for now and check some more reviews.

The controller works. The game is playable and I can see me being entertained even without a wheel. I’m saying I’d like more feel from what the haptics are made for. Especially when I know it would really connect me to this series with road feel, tyre wear, aerodynamics, acceleration and braking to feel those limits.

Maybe there is a haptic setting. I just haven’t gone through all the settings during my initial play.

From what I’ve been reading on Reddit the wheel is actually worse at the moment
