Supercar Nostalgia Cup prize car: DOME DOME-ZERO CONCEPT ’78

:odd:

My point still stands. What do you suppose I do about the Formula GT Championship?

Bottom line is, you still need to use standard cars to progress through the game.

Lost all respect for GT series and Kaz after this.

If they wanted to make something that looked amazing why didnt they hook up with Disney and make a film because this game is weak.

Iv waited 6 years for this and only 20% of the cars have cockpit views and the other 80% of cars look like they came from a ps2 game.

Damage - Where the F is it? I dont understand if they have it or not surely it should just be on from the start?

GT Life - Its just pointless race after pointless race and why so few and small race championships. Im not asking for 18, 75 lap races but i dont see much fun in buying one car to do one race in when the car costs 500,000 and the prize is 10k and the prize car is a poorer version of the car i bought  Why so few series in each level, only 9 should have been more like 30

1000+ cars - whats the point in wasting so much time and effort in to the 2 ferrari f1 cars and those silly VW's yes great to look at but you cant even use the F1 cars in the F1 championship Ahhhh FFS whats the point. Its so annoying they do this when other popular cars (veyron) look like they belong on a gameboy colour.

XP - yes good idea shame they implemented it so poorly once you get to lvl 21-22 it just becomes a grind to get up to the next lvl? wheres the fun in that

BSpec - yeah nice idea but is it really needed especially when all the races are the same as in ASpec have they no imagination?

AI - still nowhere near good enough imo, got to say i expected more rather than avoid you they just ram you there are occasions where cant help it but still not as good as id hoped

Music - Ok i didnt buy this game for the music but my god its gash compared to older GT's

Qualifying - Dont we qualify in real life for motorsports anymore

Im just so disappointed theres no reason to fear the barriers or drive properly What the hell were they doing for 6 years if this had been released 3 years ago it might have been acceptable. They need to work wonders on updates because i can see me getting bored of this before xmas.

I love this smartass attitude...

Tell me you weren't disappointed when you first knew that, after 5 years of development and just a few months before the game was release, only 20% of the cars in the game would have the quality of the cars we knew from Prologue...?

Seriously, tell me.

And if you say you weren't, either you're lying or you don't care enough about this game to be here posting on the forums.

Oh, and don't say that people just have to "deal with it". This is a thread specifically about what you feel was disappointing about the game, so it's the place to say it without the smartass comments.

I didn't say 'deal with it'. I wasn't trying to be clever. I said that if you don't like the standards, for the most part you can make the choice not to drive them.

My expectations? Ok, I'll tell you.

I had no real exacting expectations that you seem to have had. I hadn't read Gtplanet in years or read a games magazine in quite a few yeas until recently.

I'd vaguely heard about the premium class and standard class cars, but had no idea what to expect.

Having got the game, I'm happy. Disappointed? Maybe too strong a word. Of course, who wouldn't want ALL 1000 to be of the premium standard? But, given the amount of detail that's gone into them there wasn't much chance they were going to be able to do that. You say 20% - but it's 20% of 1000 - 200 is a respectable total, 50 more than GT3.

Would you have been happy with a total of 200, if they never put the standards in, and they never mentioned anything about standards?

With all the whinging and whining, I bet PD wish they hadn't bothered at all with the standards, and personally speaking I think the game would have been worse off without them.

Just a little bit. I just don't like the idea of flash headlights and wipers, and standard vs. premium cars. Some shadows are bad, and sometimes framerate dips. Not good enough for a GT game.

I like how certain people are showing bugs and glitches in the game as if their favorite game doesn't have any...

I'd be the first to say the "other" game has its share of bugs and glitches. But they are far more forgiveable when the game has not taken six years to make, has over twice as many fully modelled (& fully tune-able) cars, and has a much richer feature set, and a huge volume of races.

If these were the only issues in GT5, then sure, it'd be one of those things - all games are buggy in one way or another. But these bugs are on top of the poor design choices, lack of races, poor standard cars, lack of tuning, questionable sound etc. Its just another area where PD has failed to deliver.

In essence the only areas they seem to have delivered are:

Photo mode. But of course, only for Premium cars.

Physics. Which are reportedly only marginally improved over "the other game" and certainly not heads and tails better.

And..

Why oh Why do they tease us with the things we wanted and love from old GT's

Endurance races - why does it take until lvl 25

weather - im at lvl 22 and iv had 1 competitive race in the wet? why not just make it random for every race?

Day/Night - havnt even seen this yet

God this games frustrating because it could have been 10x better its still decent but god its annoying the way after 6 years they couldnt get basic things right

There is a bit more to it than a cockpit.

It is there from the start. Bumpers dint, crumple and loosen, marks are made. You want bits flying off everywhere and cars bursting into flames? They have chosen not to recreate destruction derby. This seems to be a design decision rather than a failure of development.

That's GT - nothing has changed since the beginning of the series. Some people like it, some don't.

1000+ cars - whats the point in wasting so much time and effort in to the 2 ferrari f1 cars and those silly VW's yes great to look at but you cant even use the F1 cars in the F1 championship Ahhhh FFS whats the point. Yes the Veyron would have made a good premuim. No matter what car you mention that could have been a premuim some one else will make the case for another car. They drew the line where they wanted to.

XP - yes good idea shame they implemented it so poorly once you get to lvl 21-22 it just becomes a grind to get up to the next lvl? wheres the fun in that
Agreed.

BSpec - yeah nice idea but is it really needed especially when all the races are the same as in ASpec have they no imagination?
I agree, but I know of at least 2 people that hated driving games before they saw b-spec in GT. They basically use this to play it as an RPG. Each to their own.

AI - still nowhere near good enough imo, got to say i expected more rather than avoid you they just ram you there are occasions where cant help it but still not as good as id hoped
It could be better. It is better than earlier versions.

Music - Ok i didnt buy this game for the music but my god its gash compared to older GT's
Personal taste. I like Apple pie. Some people don't.

Qualifying - Dont we qualify in real life for motorsports anymore
Agreed. Lets hope it comes in an update.

Im just so disappointed theres no reason to fear the barriers or drive properly What the hell were they doing for 6 years if this had been released 3 years ago it might have been acceptable. They need to work wonders on updates because i can see me getting bored of this before xmas.

I think it has been said before that they were doing other things as well in the 6 years since GT4. They probably didn't have the PS3 hardware for a year or two after GT4.

I'm happy with the game. I've been doing things other than sitting and waiting for it to release for the last 6 years.

And..

Why oh Why do they tease us with the things we wanted and love from old GT's

Day night is in the rally events, and also in the gran tour special event for a full night race, which does look great by the way, so does the tuscana day/night cycle, although it doesnt have a chance to become full night, not in any of them ive raced in.

I agree about weather though. Ive only seen snow in the rally events, in arcade as well of course, rain is so rare, again you see it a little in the rally events. Its so limited that I dont get how anyone call really call it a feature. It was a feature in PGR 4, in F1 2010, not in this game.

I had no real exacting expectations that you seem to have had. I hadn't read Gtplanet in years or read a games magazine in quite a few yeas until recently.
Exactly my case. But I've played GT5 Prologue...

Having got the game, I'm happy. Disappointed? Maybe too strong a word.

I think it's the perfect word. It just doesn't have to mean that you can't live with it or that you don't enjoy the rest of the game though.

I'm happy with the game. I've been doing things other than sitting and waiting for it to release for the last 6 years.

Yep same here, I've been playing a load of other racing games which makes you realise just how stuck in the past GT5 is ;)

I wouldn't really say that i'm disappointed because i'm enjoying the game immensely! I love the fact that we have an HD version of the Ring and the fact that the physics are way better in this iteration makes it even more engaging!

But did it live up to my expectations!? I would say HELL NO! I was expecing this game to be a higher res'd version of GT4 with more features packed into it. I mean after 6 years and the producer claiming that producing GT5 is like flying to the moon, you would think it would be the most epic racing game ever. I'm sure not one person in here thought that we would take a few steps back features wise. I mean seriously, there is no incentive for me in buying standard cars. Most of my garage consists of Premium cars unless there is no premium counterpart of the car i'm looking for. There really is no incentive in buying one. I mean being able to change rims on it? Gat damnnnn call it trivial but that's ridiculous. And the fact that some of the cars look like utter crap...I can't even comprehend as to why PD would even decide to put standard cars in this game. While we're on the topic of rims, why do some cars have more selection than others? I mean why not have all the sets available for all cars!?? I MEAN I WANT TE37S on my R34!

But seriously, I can list a few more complaints but i'm sure they've been heard a million times. All in all, the game is tremendous fun but not without its flaws definitely.

Also, the rain effect was enhanced for TGS and what we actually got in the real game left me hugely disappointed. Isn't it illegal?

Dude if you have actually put some solid time into the rain races you'll notice that the rain density actually changes as does the direction of the rain.... so your comment and pictures are basically not an accurate account of how it is...

The comments and pictures are a valid and accurate account. The rain effect now is nothing like shown in previous builds. Its like God's chucking a handful of pixels at yours screen as you drive.

They never showed any demo builds with the absolutley horrendous framerate and judder vision from cockpit cam. Which for me is a massive issue.

Expected much more. More tracks from the past would of been nice. Not impressed at all. Had more fun with GT3 and GT4. At least the PS3 is great for movies because it would of been a waste of money for just this game.

The best analogy I can use to describe this game is that it's a bit like listening to to Radio 2. For those outside the UK, Radio 2 is a 'gold' radio station, so it play old songs and, as such, tends to veer wildly between some of the best songs you'll ever hear and total and utter dross.

That's how I feel about GT5.

When I'm on the circuit and driving, it's fantastic. The physics are basically perfection for a driving game. Very realistic, but allowing you to take a few more liberties than in real life.

The prize cars are not good enough. A bloody 350Z for winning one of the World Championship events? Utter rubbish. Not being able to sell certain prize cars? Utter rubbish.

I've basically found it hugely frustrating so far. SO good when you're on the circuit, so utterly terrible in every other respect.

One final point, the Top Gear test track times are MILES off reality. Same time in a GTR on the game as an Ascari A10 in real life? Erm... no. And what's with all those bloody cones?

To finish on another analogy, it's like getting to shag Kate Beckinsale whenever you like, no strings attached, but she kicks you in the balls when you're finished.

Is it worth pain? Yes, it probably is.

If you don't like it than just stop playing, it is that simple realy

This is a constant comment by GT fanboys, but here's the point:

I (& many others) chose to invest in a PS3 & steering wheel expressly to play GT5. GT is the flagship racing title for the PS3. We were forced to wait 5 years for the arrival of GT5 - in the meantime I've played a bunch of other racing games on the PS3 - F1CE, GT5P, FC, Shift, SCC, F1 2010 all of which had some good points & bad points, but none were the reason I bought the PS3.

Now GT5 has finally arrived it is clearly a game with serious issues. Although the physics are a big step forward, which is certainly most welcome, almost everything else about the game is problematic in one way or another. Rather than addressing the long-standing & generally recognized shortcomings of the GT series, KY chose to carry on focusing on his own personal obsessions & delivering more of the same.

Is GT5 a terrible game? No. Is it reasonable to be disappointed by it? Yes. As one of the flagship games for the PS3 system & one that has been a long time in the making, people's expectations are understandably higher than for a lower budget "niche" game.

In the long run, if KY refuses to take general criticism into account, sim racers will be forced to abandon the platform & move on to PC racing or the Xbox, because the presence of the GT series means there will never be a major alternative to GT on the PS platform.

Saying "if you don't like it just stop playing it" is a bit like saying to someone who has bought a new car: "if you don't like it just stop driving it". Funnily enough this is exactly what Jaguar Canada said to my father-in-law when, decades ago, he complained about his E-type constantly breaking down (in an "official" letter, so classic that he kept it & framed it for posterity). Jaguar, as we all know, is now owned by Tata. :ouch:

My disappointment is only with how much grinding is needed to accumulate credits-even for performance parts; and no xp or credits for online races (apparently fix on way for online).

👍 to Biggles and MrKipling43's comments too :)

2. Standard/premium cars. Now I was one of those defending the standard cars but my word how wrong was I. Simple way of putting this is when im using my Enzo around Rome or Madrid I feel like im playing a PS4 game. However when im using a standard car on a basic track then the replays look like a PS2 game.
Oh jeepers... and you're usually so level headed, IVOR. I guess I'll have to do some Photo Mode comparisons at some point to hush up you "looks like PS2" stuff guys. ;)

Yep same here, I've been playing a load of other racing games which makes you realise just how stuck in the past GT5 is ;)
I'm not sure what you mean by stuck in the past. No visible and mechanical damage? I haven't really missed anything in that department, because if I wreck badly, I usually restart the race. In the rally stages especially, if you mess up, you might as well retire because it likely lost you everything.

When I played GTR games, they seemed very accurate, but quite sterile, and those graphics really do look like PS2 in HD. The same for the other PC racers I have, LFS and rFactor, but I digress. Anyway, when I run into anything, it usually looks like GT5, just minimal visual... anything. Maybe I'd lose a bumper in extreme collisions. Handling would be affected, and if I abused it further, eventually my car would mysteriously up and die. But impressive? No.

It's the same thing in Ferrari Challenge, a game which is basically Forza 2 with some PhysX tweaking, except there's no killing a car. Ferrari won't allow it, unless you're M$ and can throw suitcases of money at them. Damage is very minimal, but the driver views blow. Very hard to like that game.

rFactor doesn't impress me at all. More than any racer, I get the impression of a car on a spindle, while the world rotates around under it. And the game design is rubbish. User interface is garbage, horribly slapped together with significant, IMPORTANT parameters like auto/manual tranny selection buried in a menu somewhere. AARGH!

Not gonna touch iRacing with $200 a year pole. Sorry, just not in the mood to rent a game forever. And NFS Shift, I saw the vids, read the horror stories, just not interested.

Live For Speed is nice in many way, VERY nice, with pretty close to real life physics. But they keep messing with the tire modeling, and they break as much as they fix. It feels like a hobby project, it plays like a hobby project, because it is a hobby project, a very tiny one. That costs almost as much as a real game. Ouch.

Forza 3 is pretty nice, with fairly decent mechanical damage, about 30-50% of real life or so, and mostly impressive visual damage. Sometimes it looks lame. But the only thing better are in Codemaster games, but I'd hardly call the arcadey Dirt and Grid sims. Handling is pretty much sim, but it's the bottom of the barrel there. Ferrari Challenge, Prologue and GT5 feel better. And T10 breaks too much in every game. My 360 Leet and my racing rig is under a pile of trash, unused for a year.

Progression through most of these games are pretty much just variations on a theme. Gran Turismo being the theme.

Which leaves me with GT5, the batty wife which chews on the furniture. But I have to stick with her, because in spite of the crazy personality flaws, nothing does quite what she does, and it's so darn GOOD!

Im happy with it. But i have one complaint all of the people moaning on here about the game ffs your still playing it if its that bad you would trade it in and whats this about buying a ps3 solely for this game if thats what you have done then its no surprise that your disappointed i would be with myself for spending £300 on one game pmsl. Just to point out i dont mind the valid complaints like the shadows and the look of a few of the standard cars but some of the others damn.
