Is anyone else disappointed with GT5?

I don't mind 72 Skylines, (or 40) - I love it.
But to tell me you can "just remodel based off blah blah" and use it to reason the lack of a 97 Corvette, or an 05 Corvette, or a 09 or 10 Corvette Grand Sport?
How about an 07 Ford Mustang GT500?
A 2000 Camaro Z28? 1997 Camaro SS?
Any Trans Am (Sister car to every Camaro other than 2010)?
Maybe go crazy and find an "oh-so-rare" 99-04 Mustang GT? 03 SVT Cobra?
That's where my main problem comes in.

Sorry, I don't have the time to name the million other (mostly EU) cars.

Sister cars, right? easy to model, they say, compared to separate...

Anyways, other than that, which I expected from the start, my only real disappointment is the Viper ACR not having adjustable down-force from the factory, and to further slap me, I can't even purchase it.

I expected pretty much everything else, especially the car choice.

EDIT: The Ferrari's are probably missing because of that pesky thorn NFS. EA can't handle an even playing field.

i dont mind the 72 skylines either but i could do with less if they added a veriety of other cars that were worthy of racing. such as the cars thay you mentioned like the camaros and gt500 or svts.

:cough ... cough: ONE Aston Martin (plus a couple of second hand ones). We could have the whole historic range for less space than the Skyline-gasm :D.

First off, all complaining aside. Any next gen GT5 is better than no next gen GT5. I am very thankful for this. Don't get me wrong..........just to name a few points.

A-Spec. Not enough races. Not nearly enough. Let down.

B-Spec. No speed up? Who wants to run their console into the ground by running it for days? Nobody. BUT! Sony wants you to.$$$$

Car list. Plenty of choices there, for sure. Nearly 10% of which are skylines alone. Booo! Personally, 400 premiums would've been great.

GT Auto. WTF! Having pacified myself with M.C.L.A.. I say Booooo! I want complete control of my colors and body mods. By adding full customizing you do away with the need for all those redundant cars, ie.....Skyline.

Game music. Give me a reason to listen elevator music and I'll give you 10 reasons why I you should stick your head in my bass drum. Let us play music off our hard disks!

Truck races. Really? Personally, I'd rather have a dozen or so Motorcycles than Trucks. I bet you could think of a few bikes worthy of simulation. Who could pass on a busa at Daytona, Really? Lol I could do without trucks in my high octane racing simulator.

Overall, like I said, I am very happy to be playing next gen GT. And grateful. But I also feel that PD/SONY took a major step back from GT4. Give me online play and stunning blu-ray graphics in GT4 and its already a better game. Don't regress. That should've taken 1-2 years. Not 5-6.

But I really do love taking it to my friends online, and GT Academy. Kudos!

Having been loyal to GT since the inception, I have stake in the argument. Not to mention I went out and bought a brand new PS2 the day GT4 came out due to the fact my old one wouldn't run the game.

6 outta 10. Don't know of i'll keep it, we'll see what the future holds.

Cheers

and you used to get the money AND a car EVERYtime you got first in a championship. now you only win the car once. there also used to be a chance of winning 4 different cars when you finished one, and now its just the one, one time. GAY!!!!

oops didnt mean to double post

Ok , time for my impressions on the game ! I'm very , very disappointed . Being a huge fan of GT, to me this is sadly the worst GT game ever. I can't believe this is coming from PD , the perfectionists and after +5 years in development.
Everything feels so incomplete or rushed. Tracks like Trial mountain , Grand valley , Autumn ring and Le mans are straight ports from GT4 with the same textures !
The standard cars are useless , B spec is a waste of time. So many features missing from previous GT games. The graphics aren't that great except when you get the right car on the right track and the shadows and aliasing are horrible. Why the hell can't we even zoom in replays anymore ? For me , this is the death of the series and I'm sooo not looking forward to GT6.

To put it simply, i have never owned a racing game (until now) where i fall asleep in the most ridiculous menu set ups ever listening to the worst soundtrack ever recorded, when i race instead of getting my blood pumping it tries to put me into a coma and for every one who goes on about how good the handling etc are, ive been fortunate enough to drive hundreds of different cars from crap to supercars and driving is second nature to me, driving a car in this game is far from second nature and i have never once actually thought this is like driving the real thing, rather the opposite other games do it far better and the reality is that this game promised so much, made claims that it coulnt keep and has taken so long to come out it feels dated already, the driving experience and the racing is whats important to me and this game lets me down badly, more than badly the amount of effort it takes to get a car you actually might want to race and find a race you can use it in stuns me, however finding races for cars that i couldnt care less about is easy. The amount of memory this games uses to have the slowest loading screens ive ever come across is just weird im off to play F1 or nfs hot pursuit something to get the blood pumping NOT THE REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR

You mean Forza, don't you. Because every other racing game which is built around sports car racing are simcade at best. And Forza certainly doesn't have a lock on realism by a long shot.

I would add that long one sentence paragraphs don't give the impression of much experience with life yet, so I'm just a scouche dubious over some of your post. And of course opinions don't equal fact. Anyway, welcome to the forums.

PC sims are slightly better in physics, but they're also very narrowly focused. Even Prologue was close enough to them that I stopped playing mine. GT5 is like car heaven compared to just about any other game you can name, save for a certain sole competitor.

To be sure, there is lots of room for improvement in GT5, but we're getting updates every couple of weeks so far. While asking for goodies is all well and good, some of you guys keep acting like not one update was done, and that kind of whining is getting old around here. So is overstating the glory of other games.

Let's criticize, let's ask for work on improvement. Let's not whine like little kids pretending we know how the world works at age six.

Plenty of experiance of life, not of forums which i assume you think is life, good luck with that one.
Happy
Never thought forza was dead realistic but at least it was fun.

Well 1 and a half week have gone since I got my copy, and at the moment my coomentary is: Why is all the people complaining so hard for the game?

Yes the game has issues (as every game than came out in the history), but they're not as svere as someone make them look, until ths moment I have 4 complains for the game:

1.- jaggies shadows
2.- Pop ups in course maker tracks
3.- Have to gold certain events to unlock all the tracks ( I just left the nurb 24hrs layout but I feel than I won't unlock it never with my broken DS3 :S)
4.- The course maker generator needs more themes, I'd love to see for example, one gravel based on Yosemite

2 of them can be fixed with a patch and the other 2 are (IMHO) a bad design decision, but in general the game is good, really sometimes is hard to me to understand why the people complain, Standard cars looks in general pretty good (the good looking standard are the most over tha bad looking).

About the lack of events I feel than they took that decision because a lot of people complain because GT4 was to long and now GT5 is to short?

at the moment for my the game is a 90-95 and not a tragedy like some people claim around here and another websites, but anyways, everyone has differents opinions and points of view but I feel than whiners are overreacting

200 cockpits in 6 years? Forza did that with their eyes closed half the time. But thats just for starters..

And by the way some of them look (the cockpit in Forza3) in the game, it does seemed that not only were their eyes closed half the time but also half opened most of the time :)

The fact that you can't save it or back it up anywhere is pathetic. Whoever made this decision needs to be tarred and feathered. There have many instances of PS3 hardrives losing data even on the humble old Ps1 you could save your games to memory card and the cards were cheap and easy to move around and hide. So if you get burgled too you can't back it up to a USB stick and hide it somewhere so you have to start all over again. I can't believe they overlooked such a basic Goddamn feature. Someone needs to be fired for this and we need to have a patch that allows backups NOW!!

what updates? ive logged on every day since it has come out and not one time has it tried to load an update..... there should be THOUSANDS of updates before this game is through. i am a HUGE fan of gt3 and gt4. i got my ps2 with gt3 and have loved the game ever since. but everyone is right the hype was too big. and like i said in my previous post, when making a sequal to a series you are NEVER supposed to leave things out from the previous games. you could even leave some of the things just the same as long as you improved on other. but NEVER are you supposed to REMOVE things from the game.

I am a little disappointed but this is still a great game. I have put many more hours into it then other highly acclaimed games

think of it this way... if the gt series never existed and all of a sudden a game came out called Gran turismo in early November of 2010 i think most people would absolutely love it.

we are spoiled by past and present(other sims) experiences and in my opinion one of the biggest killers of a game is the hype it receives prior to release. if your expecting a lot even going to the extent of making "wish lists"... most of the time you will be dissapointed but if your expecting something as simple as a driving sim. in most cases you will be fairly happy with the outcome

a video game shouldn't be hard work! it should be fun and fairly easy. this game [explicit] sucks.. I love cars. Thats why I buy car games.

I think its all that dudes fault, the creator.. whatever his name is. Thats why our country is not run by the President alone.. separation of power. When you put just one idiot in charge of everything (dude that made GT series), and he has everything how he wants it, and ruins it. I freaking hate that dude with all my heart, and i've never even met him..

I just HOOOOOOPE someone figures out how to cheat and get like 20 billion credits. PLEASSEEE!

i do agree that he screwed up but the game isnt about having a billion dollars and buying any car u want. its about earning enough money to buy the car you want and then tuning it to your specs. you appreciate things a LOT more when you had to earn them. like the other guy said if it never existed and all of a sudden this game came out it would be the most amazing game ever. its still better than any other racing game simply because of the physics, and driving experience with all of the driving asistance turned off. but like i said in my previous posts they still have PLENTY to work on. but mainly its our fault for the hype and all the "wish lists"

SO many of these cars handle like total crap. Extremely unrealistic handling. Racing soft tires don't mean crap most all the time. Cars seems like driving on ice. Cars stall out around every corner to where the screen looks like it comes to a full stop. The speedo read out doesn't match the screen view as the screen always appears much slower moving. The online game is totally pointless and serves of no value at all.... I could go on. The GT Life menu screen is awful to look at and hard to view when you first come to the game. Not enough races per levels. Sitting there racing the same race over and over and over just to grind out enough EXP gets old. Having at least 500 worthless, meaningless cars in the game for not much reason. I'd rather have the other 500 only of cars that have some value or real use. Then make those premiums.

Nitpicking aside, the core of the game is what I care about. Sure, it's not as pretty or as in depth as half of the teasers we got before release, but hey, the core gameplay is great.

The driving engine is incredibly satisfying, for me at least, and standard cars or not, they all handle wonderfully for me.

I kind of feel that PD tried to get this out really quickly, considering the onslaught on complaints about delays and the like. But at least they're patching and listening to what people want, I feel this is only the beginning.

The way I put it, they could have stopped at 4 xD

first of all i dont know what your talking about with this "extremely unrealistic handleing" my car in the game handles EXACTLY like it does in real life. second, how the HELL do you stall a car around a corner? unless your coming to a full stop the screen shouldnt look like that. maybe you got some crappy boot-leg copy or something. and thirdly ive never liked online racing people are @$$holes when they are masked by a screen name so i havent played at all. and i think the home screen is WAY more attractive than the old gt4 game.

i do agree with the not enough races per level part tho. ive been doing the challenges for extra money. theres a LOT of money when you do good in those things. but the prob is you only get that money once. so ive been doing the tuner championship for the extra money. im not even to the endurance races yet.

and i TOTALLY agree with the 500 useless cars, like the daihatsu midget and the vw cubelwagen. why? why? why? waste of development time and waste of memory. could have used that for a koenegsegg ccx

and what about the ford raptor or hennessey velosor raptor 600 or the srt10 truck for some truck races. should be a truck/suv race. plenty of fast suv's to race. x5, jeep srt8, trailblazer ss just to name a few. and an offroad truck/suv race would have been cool too.

i hope PD is reading all this. AND TAKING NOTES!!!!!

This game should not be named "The real driving simulator" but "The real grinding simulator."

My "B-Spec Bob" just did (an won) the 24h race on Circuit de la Sarthe an it didn't even give enough XP to come to the next B-Spec Level (from 35 to 36) - so how much B-Spec grinding must one do to reach level 40 in order to do the 24h Nürburgring Race ?

This game got sooo boring.... -> and before some stupid fanboy dude now says something stupid like "Then GT is nothing for you" -> I didn't get bored by GT4 for many month - so its not me not liking the GT series, its just me not liking GT5!!! It is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar the worst GT ever!!!

So you are the answer to everyone who posts here? Like you know, see more/better, lol. I've been around racing now 32 years ( I'm 41 ). So just a heads up and I can post pictures. I've owned the car you have in you avie since the 1990's in fact ( nice 99 front end ) and many other sports cars. Also, I think people levels kinda speak of the time invested in the game. So they might have some good insight to what they are talking about..... just maybe. I could have kept going... Load times on every action taken.... play for as much as some of us have and man those load times do get to you. I do not hate the game at all. I like everyone here have loved it since the PS1. It just needs some fixing is all. Like everyone else who's posted in here.

btw, you on tt.net? I joined that site Oct 1998.
