Is anyone else upset with the rally in gt4?

I like the rally courses/cars/and physics in GT4, but the rally mode enfuriates me. Every time I win a rally I'm rewarded with the hardest single A-Spec point you're ever going to see. I can't wait to finish those so I can have some fun rallying in Arcade Mode.

If anyone here wants to experience realistic rallying, go buy Richard Burns Rally. Since GT4 focuses on road racing more than rallying, that would explain the "odd" dirt/ice/snow physics that seem... well, odd.

I found rallying to be difficult. I play GT4 with my DFP though, which I think is easier then using the ds2 for this type of driving. My only experience so far has been the snow track while getting my professional license. I really think to drive the rally's well you need to keep your throttle in reserve, never flattening the accelerator, but, keeping the throttle at "half-staff" so-to-speak. I find if I do this, it give me the right amount of accelerator to push on to get me out of trouble in turns.

On the snow and ice, this is true, but you'll find that on many of the dirt tracks, like Tahiti Maze, Swiss Alps and Cathedral Rocks, you will be at wide open throttle a great deal of the time. Keep all four wheels spinning, and aim the steering wheel where you want the car to go. Practice it in the 206 or Evo VI rally cars. Leave 'em stock at first because the torque curve is flatter and doesn't let the car bog down as much as the bigger turbos can do.

Meanwhile, I'm going to continue to sit back and laugh at all the people who think they should be just able to jump right into a rally and win... You really have to learn proper car control before you attempt to tackle the most advanced techniques. 💡

Now then, how about a rally lap times thread? :sly:

I think in GT3 they had the horizontal physics right, but the vertical forces were all wrong. You went over a bump and it felt like you were being sucked into the ground by some mysterious force.

One thing that GT3 doesn't simulate well is airborne-ness. It's just wrong, for whatever reason.

I like the way the cars handle BUT the 5 sec. penalty is pure garbage. they hit you and you get one? crap. if you rail them I could see it but....

I can't say I'm doing good at all but... I think it is an improvement over GT3... It is hard but the ground actually feels like its gravel and sand rather than some kind of mush that creates drifting physics...

And Apparently hand braking on those hard turns actually help as long as you can control it... I did a couple awesome sharp turns with it (While crashing into the wall majority of times :indiff: ) Kinda got the feel of it but if it wasn't for my monster Impreza W~i Spec C. I probably would have lost all the races...

I agree that it's frustrating, but I also think they improved from the rally in GT2 & 3. It feels more like dirt under the wheels (anyone ever try to hit a corner on a dirt raod at 130 KM/H? It's damn tough to even keep the car straight at that speed...), and less like glare ice. Proper throttle and braking control are even more essential now. I think it's way more fun.

I would be fine with the 5 second penalty if the opponent got the penalty if they hit the wall/hit you.

I'm stuck on the second to last hard race because whenever I try to pass on a turn, the other car hits me and I get a penalty.

What kind of bullcrap is that? That feature has to go.

Yeh... umm... rally racing is hard, in real life and in the game. From what I kno about physics, the game physics on the dirt are pretty close to real life. Driving on dirt is like driving on snow, it's pretty nuts. Don't complain because you can't do it properly yet.

yeah, thats horse****. Ive driven SCCA for a couple years now and the rally on this thing is nothing like the real thing. Youve never driven rally at your own admission, so how about you have a nice hot cup of shut the **** up.

When people on GTPlanet and elsewhere talk about "GT is not very challenging," I often ask myself "what the hell is challenging in GT if GT isn't challenging?" As I said before, GT4 is not a rehashing and rebadging of GT3 as almost everything is new. Long since the Grand Canyon pictures and videos, rally courses were going to be more narrow and tougher, just like in real life. I haven't an XBOX, so I haven't played Colin McRae 05, but I have played Colin McRae 2 on my PC before. And let me tell you, rally isn't anywhere close to circuit racing. The last time I raced on narrow roads in a game, it was Oulton Park in "Pro Race Driver." This is where two compact cars can kind of go side-by-side without one or the other going into the grass. And the course is more suited to touring cars than wide, long, and exotic sportscar race machines.

I guess what I'm going to try to do is get some practice with racing narrow roads by running Oulton Park in "Pro Race Driver." And since the 4WD machines drive more like rally machines than circuit racers, I'll use a Mitsubishi Lancer for that rally feel. So if you have any other games with narrow-road tracks, kind of practice with them to get a feel of what it's like running on narrow roads.

My rally experience? Grand Canyon. Damn that track is tough! It's just... left, right, left, right, chicane, straight, left, right... that's a workout! Track was worse than Tahiti Maze. At least Tahiti Maze had more road to work with. The only thing I need to practice (before getting GT4) is racing on narrow roads. Another good way (especially for you real racers) is to do Autocross events. So my suggestion? Practice up on racing.

And one last thing, since overtaking on a tough rally track is tough, it's no wonder so many of us are confused about passing on rally courses, much less maintaining the lead.

The stages are too wide to make it fun, as the cars don't even handle like they do in RBR. Definetly better than GT3 though.

Tempting to bust out the ARMAX to kill that penalty. It's ridiculous. It's bad enough to when you hit a wall and get it... "Yes, hitting the wall wasn't bad enough, now I get a penalty"... But getting nailed by the AI and then penalised... Wanky.

You've hit the nail on the head for me by focusing on the "fun" factor. For me, GT-style rallying has next-to-nothing to do with what I see on WRC...so, with GT3, I just more-or-less thought of the rallies as a chance to go balls-out and release some pent-up frustration at how you have to drive on eggshells in every other mode of the game. Now they want us to drive on eggshells while rallying, too? Like the caveman on the Geico commercial says, "NOT. COOL." :)

Not that I want to come off like a whinge monkey, though...I'm sure I'll get used to it and come to love it. It's just a totally different experience from GT3 rallying.

The only rally games I've played apart from GT3 are Colin McRae Rally 1 and 2 for the PS1, and both were easily more realistic than GT3. It sounds as though they have improved the rallying in GT4, though.

I'm sorry. My post didn't show earlier. Talking about some "Database Error." So forgive me for this repost.

slow in, fast out.
Just because you are sideways, it does NOT negate this concept.

98 percent of people don't brake early enough.

Come again ?.. I didn't quite get that...

Rally in GT3 realistic ?... The rally part of GT3 is pure arcade. There's no way in hell you can carry that much speed on gravel..
That was just my opinion, based on other rally games and watching a few rally races on TV ,some from the in car perspective. I havn't played Richard Burns so I
don't know how it is. Is it a PC game only? I don't claim to be a Rally expert.
I prefer pavement.

Wow, thats some thread-side manner you got there. If you have driven Rally, what is your opinion on any of the Rally games as far as being realistic? If they are not, whats missing?

And would you please calm down, people are entitled to an opinion and to learn from mistakes.

I quite sure that like the rest of us you are not perfect and do not know everything.

Your tone and manner is not realy required, as such I have reported your post to the mods.

Havent tried the Rally yet but i like to vent a few notes.

1. Revised List on Vehicles from its original list :yuck: biggest BS!
2. Not enough races for factory trim vehicles.
3. No Trial Mountain or Seattle Enduro Races.

Has anyone tried the Evo super rally car? I'm thinking about buying it, but I'm wondering if it's really worth the 1 million+ credits.

No TM and SE races? Make one... You know there is a reason for ARCADE mode don't you? (Though I would agree we should be able to pick the opponent cars... NFSHP2 did it and it never happened again WTF)

Don't be a dick. No need to resort to personal insults and swearing over a video game. You are allowed to talk like this at the supercars.net forums though, so go there and feel free. Just don't do it here.

edit: I see this gentleman has already been corrected by a few members. People like spade annoy me, so my comments stand.

just win the RSC in the second special conditions race and throw some dirt tires on it. Hell I love the rally racing and the snow tracks too, just gotta throw it down a gear, cut the turns a little early and as soon as the back end starts to break free shift back up a gear or even 2 if you need and counter steer, you should be able to keep the car under control and will be flying around those turns. Fun as it gets.

The RSC is that Toyota SUV thing, right? I'm sorry, maybe it's just me, but i hate the RSC in rally racing. it seems overpowered, so as soon as you try to catch up to your opponent (who is, at this point, killing you), you spin out and make a lot of dust. The RSC is better at providing money by selling it. and another thing, it's not even equipped with dirt itres when you get it! how much crap is that?
