is gt4 as good as you expected?

To add another thing that really anoys me in Gt4, is that you can't make choice of your opponents, i mean, i wanna be able, to make my grid of cars on the ring, to put several cars, from different cattegories, everybody with different AI skills, and to see how they handle the ring.. I love racing alone, but it would be so cool to put some random cars on the track, so you pass them by, when driving, or some more powerfull car then mine, pass me by.. You know, that CAN'T BE DIFFICULT to implement in the game, don't give that "PS2 is not powerfull enough for that" crap, i just want to choose against what car i am racing!!

My theory is that some hot shot from Sony or someone important rushed them to make the game as soon as possible, so they "finished" it in a hurry... :grumpy:

GTR may be great, but it carries a nasty little payload.

I can't read CD's I burn on two different burners now on the system that was infected by it. The disks work find on every other system. Note: The damage is permanent. The drivers were uninstalled long ago.)

If you value your PC's stability, you won't touch GTR, or any other Starforce "protected" title.

YIKES!!!

Thank you very much for this heads up. I had no idea. I'll not touch that game no matter how good some say it is.

.

GTR is worth it.

Its incredibly much much more realistic.

GT4's physics still aren't even 90% realistic. There's a game much much older than it that comes close to beating GTR and Live For Speed. Its called Grand Prix Legends. That is a true sim.

No online

I totally agree with u and those are the only things wrong with the game. This is still mi favorite game that i have even with out all those features. I think that PD did a pretty good job with it for having so many ppl po'd because of delays. That "PS2 can't handle it" is still abunch of crap tho.

GT4 is a great game, but not as great as I expected. :grumpy: One thing that annoys me are the "special cars." What is that? I got my beloved F-1, and I can't even change the oil because it's "special."

Ahhhh, I'm too tired to complain anymore.

I started playing Gran Turismo back in 1997 or 1998 I forget which. It was a great game in my opinion. It was polished, consistent and was challenging. Those were the days when the internet was just building steam. FAQ's were not as well known and you basically had to figure stuff out on your own.

Fast forward a couple years and I purchase GT2 as a "platinum series" game and take myself out of retirement. My first thought was were are the record lap times? This was my favorite thing in GT1 - going back and beating your race and posting a new record. GT2 had this feature but it never saved the records, glitch 1. Sure GT2 had lots of cars but I think that it was a much lower quality than GT1. I think the graphics and physics were actually a little worse.

Disappointed i waited until a year ago to buy a PS2. Married and with a small child I figured I would relive my university days and have a little fun. GT3 is on sale for the $30 classic price so I pick it up. My first impression is wow do these cars look real! My next impression was that wow is this more challenging than the old games - this is great. I was about to be dissappointed when I went car shopping. They made it a pain the the arse to start out this game. Races that pay next to nothing for winning, prize cars that are useless. Worst of all - the car selection seems worse than GT2. I regret that I never really got into GT3, I may revisit it however.

Last month I noticed GT4 was on the shelves at the stores, intrigued I thought that maybe I should pick it up. I waited a bit and decided why not. I started playing and noticed - all the great features of GT1 were back and all the cars and more than GT2. Poly digital had a great idea - put the best features of the series to date in one game - wow what an idea... But I must say that I am very pleased with the game and the challenge.

Yes the AI is dumber than we are, yes you can smash into walls without dying or destroying your car, but look at what we have:

1) Tons of tracks that were never around before
2) Realism in a game that was unthinkable - I never played GT3 that much so I didnt have to re-learn the physics, but I think it is very realistic, but yes still a game.
3) The option to put just about any car in any race. If you think the game is too easy just throw a car in with less horses under the hood, or try using a lower grade of tires.

I think the game is very far from perfect, but it is a step in the right direction.

Biggest let down in GT4- the preview screen from GT1 was perfect it showed your opponents in a second and listed their HP - no need to wait for a movie to load and scroll one car at a time to see which cars you were battling. How hard would it be to have that in GT4?

oh and this stuff too:

The little things can make a game a big dissapointement, PD is lucky because they have reputation, so they will make money if they sell blank CD-s with GT logo on it.. They would still sell a million copies, like Picaso paintings, he could sell a blank paper with one red dot in the middle for million dollar :sly:
REPUTATION!
But, little things are sometimes more important then the big ones...
I mean, you can make a game with perfect physics, and make tracks to be boring as hell, or you have just the 3rd person view, and you drive with a wheel !!
And then you can call that the "minor" flaws, because you have the perfect physics...
I mean, you can't release the FINAL product with so many "minor" flaws, because they are not MINOR!!
I don't wanna be so hursh on PD, they did a one hell of a job, but they didn't finished it in a responsible way, it's like they don't know, that whole world is buying GT games, it's like it's their first game, you know, like some high school experiment, what a heck, if it turns out Ok, then great, if it is bad, nevermind...
They should really take more responsibility in their desicions, this is not some guy experiment anymore, it is a PS exclusive, and people(like me) are buying PS2 just for this game!!

...and people(like me) are buying PS2 just for this game!!

Exactly, and yet there are those who wonder why we whine so much.

It isn't like we found a few flaws in the game and that was it. As we get further along, we keep finding new ones. I wonder how long PD's bug list is now. You know they're hearing about every single one of them...

IMO, your argument is similar to the people who whine about no Porsche, Lamborghini, or Ferrari in the game. They're insulted & upset by a simple business decision: if Sony spends $40M (made up amount, obviously) on licensing those brands, will they bring in that much more money in sales? PD doesn't seem to think so...

The same logic works for you: if PD had taken the time to license an enormous tracklist (which may or may not include songs that make you smile, but will certainly eat up a bunch of disk space) would they get a decent return on their investment? All signs point to no. There would still be complaints, and your complaint carries no more weight than anybody else. So they've grabbed a handful of songs, given you the ability to pick & choose or turn them all off (that's my choice), and considered it done.

Their decision makes business sense, yours makes artistic sense. It shouldn't be a big surprise that business won.

Ok, my intention isn't to hijack this thread but it seams there's a guy complaining about complainers and trying to close every negative threads like this one.

Ill just copy paste CrackHoor's quote so him and i can continue.

I believe in the very first post i said something about the financial state PD have.

Now tell me this, adding more textures, more sounds, more models, more tracks, also cost a lot of time and money too.
Now tell me something, where exactly do you see the limit ? There are so many economical factors involved during and after the production. Where is the limit in GT4 production ? What if we (let say) remove about 10 constructors rights, 20 race tracks and few hundreds textures ?. the game would be smaller and more ugly. But how many people would complain ? more complains than now or less ?

According to your argument, PD reached that limit in GT4 to be viable. Are you very sure about it?

As you know, the PS3 and X360 are going to allow developers to produce much richer games. Do you believe they are actually going to add more contents in the PS3 version ?
According to you, GT5 wont have more content.. Just higher resolution and a better graphic motion. Lets wait and see about it.

Have you made any business decision before?
Tell me something, what business decision will you make if too many people complain about your product ? and if few people complain ? and if very little complain ?
Will your business decision be the same for all 3 cases? That would depend right ?

BTW, how many music tracks was there in GT 1,2 & 3. I don’t recall.

Do you actually know how much GT4 cost to produce ? How many copies have they sold ? how much profit have they made ? That’s more the kind of stuff i would like to hear before i dissect your arguments.

More question, let suppose your company sell something. That thing cost 100 bucks a unit to produce and it features A, B,C,D,E services.

Each bonus features cost you money.

By removing feature E you notice that you’re still viable, no change in the profit.
You try to cut feature D. You notice slight increase in complains but still no change to the profit. Are you going to keep reducing the features until you notice the sale drecrease or until too many people complain?

This question is my favourite: Will you expect people to complain about your product if you cut feature C ?

OMG! the thread was closed leave it alone..... 💡

oh yea i almost forgot about your post.

you were asking some pause in the quote: i don't listen to dance " ... "

I put ... to replace name calling and insults meant to you. Since i knew you were trying to turn my thread into warzone.

Your last post in the closed thread shown to everyone that it took like 10 posts for you to realize the real issue which was adding more features but your brain couldnt think cleary from the moment you felt insulted .

here .... more pause for you ....

Try to guess what they mean lol

It's better than I expected. But then, I don't buy the GT games to race - I get them to drive and tune cars randomly, so I guess I'm easily pleased.

Yes and no.

Yes, because the missing features of GT2 were back...used cars, tons of cars, and alot of brands they left out in GT3. Photomode rocks.

No, because the physics and AI sucks, no real improvement on graphics, and more of the same with the exception of photomode. Stupid silly things like, you can't increase displacement on just about any car--idiots at PD obviously overlooked this again...in 3 games now? Can't add a turbo, blower, or supercharger on just about any car? Again, PD strikes again. Race music sucked...hardcore. I longed for Panama on every track until I turned the music completely off.

There are about 4 things they could of done to make this game insanely good.

1) Not released it so soon with all these bugs and no true multiplayer.
2) Balance the automakers out by reducing the redundant Japanese models in favor for more automakers from around the world.
3) Get a better freaking soundtrack with selectable genres of music.
4) Tweak the menus and other little things like the racing grid preview screen...etc.

POD i'm not even going to respond anymore its another thread that has nothing to do with your question and yet you still tug at it like bored child.

Special cars don't need an oil change, they don't degrade.

Ill just copy paste CrackHoor's quote so him and i can continue.

I wish you hadn't. I'm not interested in continuing on a topic that's been beaten to death in your thread, and now you're dragging down this thread too. 👎

I can't answer your Q's about PD finances, they won't show me their bank statements. And I never said that GT4 'reached that limit', I just think they decided when to draw the line and stop - do you? My comments were attempts to understand why the music didn't meet your personal standards, and I don't need an MBA to do that.

Here's my last advice on the topic: Don't like GT4's music? Suck it up and cross your fingers for better music in GT5. :)

Im content with GT4 it is still an awsome game. I think the problem might be psycological. GT3 was so ground-breakingly new compared to GT2 people (me included!!) wanted the same huge jump for GT3 to GT4 which just isnt going to happen. To be honest im not sure there is actually much in GT4 which actually warrents a 'new' number its more like the 'GT3 Concept' gerne. Basically the same game with a few additions but from PDs point of view had they called GT4 'GT3 Extended' or whatever it wouldn't have got the same mass marketing potential. I actually hope that GT4 was purely a money grabbing excercise allowing PD to 'go mad' in the next version. Please?!

the physics were not as good as i expected because of PC sims spoiling me. :)

But the graphics were a bit better than i expected. A few less features than i expected also. But the game is still bounds above gt3.

Its still very good for a PS2 game but gt5 better be much better or there will be hell to pay :dopey:

Overall i'd have to say its not as great as i thought it would be.... Its still fun though.

IMO i love GT4 for what it is, and thats that. If i compare it to GT3, 2, 1 and P, for me 2 was the best, if i compare it to games on the pc like GTR then i would have to say i havent got a clue (coz i dont own it) but by reading reviews and whay people have to say i think GT4 is way behind.

was GT4 wat i was expecting?

Yes

Do i like what they ahve done?

Yes - to verify this, im posting on this forum.

my only problem is that I cant load my garage in arcade... and that problem is infantisimally small.

great game PD :D

my question is: How many of you people who say the game sux in a really major way still play it and why?

if there are better games out there, then go play them! :p

The game is good generally, we have to understand that players of all skill levels are buying the game and just not the GT nuts here at GTP.
I would like to see the AI skill being graded with the license test results.
Bronze = easy.
Silver = normal.
Gold = difficult.
That may challange the better drivers more. This should not be to hard to impliment.
However we can still build challanging races ourselves by selecting a lesser car or state of tune.
24 hour races that stays daylight for the entire race? Crazy.
Gold license prize cars are basically poorly selected. Did we here at GTP cause this by winning the Gold License cars first in GT3 and then using them to win the game easily?
Notice that the prize cars from the missions which are way harder are the better cars.
I have never driven any real life car at a race track so how can I comment on the Physics?
The cars understeer and oversteer and you change these by tuning. Good enough for me.
Braking distances appear a bit more realistic in GT4 compared to GT3.
A spec points are a good idea but poorly implimented. (anybody use NOS).

i dont have trouble with understeer much. i just have a reflex reaction if im not turning fast enough to let up on the accelerator

i am prone to oversteer at times :(

Personally im quite happy with the game, although I wasnt expecting major advances but all in all for the limitations the PD have to deal with on current PS hardware I think that it is a fair effort.

Im always amazed at the level of details that some games manage to get within a limited hardware environment. As I have been playing games since the old monochrome / CGA (4 colors) days right through to todays awesome graphics/sound based games with next to no gameplay.

Though that being said I cannot wait to get a PS3 with Gran Turismo Vision/5 hopefully by then there will be enough computing power there to handle good AI dynamic lighting and weather, and if we are lucky to have new tyre marks left on the track whenever an ai/your car spins out.

Personally im not to fussed about whether Porsche (which we already have under the RUF brand), Ferrari or Lamborghini''s are in the game.

One thing that i have noticed though is that there seems to be a bit of a shift away from tuning the gears yourself to using an auto setting. This is one of the things that I absolutely loved in GT1/GT2. I used to be able to get some awesom acceleration and top speed out some cars. In recent years I have seemed to have lost that fine art. :(

Im hanging to get the online version of GT4 though.

It wasn't as good as I expected. In a way, I enjoyed GT3 more than GT4. Having said that, I love the selection of cars in GT4. I'm very glad P.D. brought back my favorite tracks from earlier GT games. I just wish it was bit easier to navigate thru the game.

P.S. My biggest complaint. Wheels. It was so easy to manage in GT3, why did they change it? 👎

It wasnt as good as i expected. I thought the car sounds would be more realistic. the AI is the same as GT1, and theres no online play like pd promised. though i love the selection of cars and tons of tracks, it seems like pd is just too scared to make changes to its game. every preview of every gt game after gt1 said that there will be better AI yet its the same. i love gt4, though it can be much better. hopefully pd has opened their ears and eyes for gt5.
