is gt4 as good as you expected?

The game is fantastic.
Good graphics, good handling, good variety (except for the 50 skylines...)
There's only two things missing.
Adjustbale AI level (i.e. easy, medium, hard) and more realistic enginie sounds

The car damage has already been discused tons of times. Polyphony Digital didn't include it for 3 reasons:
1-PS2 could not handle everything (The actual Graphic quality plus the physics needed for the car damage)
2-The Producter thinks that the cars included in the game are art work and don't want to see them damaged
3- Some makers would not give aurthorization if there was car damage (would you like to see a gme with only 150 car, 50 of them skylines, 25 subarus, 25 evos, and only 50 of the rest...?)

Hope this helps

Yes to the extent of the car selection, I really like the some of the muscle cars being back in, I like the history of cars period, I mean lots of cars I had no idea ever existed ...

I'm not unhappy but not really impressed much w\ the trucks ...
I like the fact that atleast in the "Todays SPecial" they have alot of different wheels...

I like the nitrous addition and even supercharger although it doesnt seem to be as impressive to me, it seemed like some cars actually had more power w\ N/A than the supercharger : \

I like the tire wear not being as bad ..
THe AI cars still seem drone-like to me, again if they hit you it pretty well does you in w\ little to them or else they recover much quicker than you ...

I dont know many racers in real life, as specified the AI drivers would be, more realisitic, that would basically try to run a specific line on the track even if it meant slamming into you, usually real life drivers would tend to want to avoid a collision not create one ..

The one really big thing w\ me were the sounds, I'm abit of a stickler for that ..
I HATE some of the sounds of the cars in the game, they need a new sound designer/engineer...

Take the example of a V8 muscle car w\ stock exhaust that has a deep but somewhat quiet tone, if you install an exhaust that is abit more free-flowing, it does not go from a deep tone to something like a 4 cylinder thats lost its muffler, or a mix between a tractor and a helicopter, goodgrief ..

There are also cars that sound as though they are vaccum cleaners trying to suck through a straw ..., its obvious these things are terribly synthesized sounds ...

There are also cars w\ the wrong engines in them ...
Some I've drove have the Nissan Skyline 6 cyl engine in them when its not in any way associated w\ it ...

Another car, it seemed like it was an old car, possibly a Ford that had the modern day Chevy Camaro engine in it ...

I hated that when you changed many of the cars exhaust type from standard, it made the sounds horrible... I mean, there is some excitement in the sounds of a cars engine/exhaust as for racing... Imagine if Indy cars, Nascar cars, and Dragsters sounded like garbage trucks, city transit buses or mopeds on steroids .. :irked:

I really hope they get it right for the next game, in this edition, there was hype about how the vehicles will be realistic in engine/exhaust note from idle to max rpm, but this was not the case, so that was a definite disappointment for me ..

I think it'd be nice for the next game to also have a FREE paint booth where we can change the color of say a prize car or a used car to whatever is available atleast .. even a car we buy new and later decide we'd like a different color, that ways we wouldnt have to buy a whole other car and upgrade it etc ...

I like the photo mode, but give us more freedom for positioning the vehicle and camera, I hated seeing all this area on the viewer and yet we only had a few feet in either direction for posing, also allow us to change the time of day perhaps incrementally and the lighting ...

More wheel selections, besides the Todays Special, I think all the manufacturers have the same wheels as in GT3 ...

Work on the AI drivers, make it so that if they can't get around us, make them slow down and drive more realistically instead of just ramming the stuffins out of us, let them slide off the road, out of control and have a time recovering like we do .. Thats about it for now .

I thought that they should have had more dirt to the cars so a car wash is actually worth what you paying and rallies should have water in them like the old V-Rally games.

I think I can compare GT4 with real life as both my cars are in the game, and I've had the chance to drive both at a reasonable speed! Having said that I like the game, and I think the weight transfer, in particular, make the physics pretty good for a game.

I don't like the AI and this was worse than I expected. For the rest, it met or exceeded my expectations! So, great game, can't wait for GT5.

A long time ago I learned never to build my expectations up when wondering what the latest version of a particular game/sim was like before it was about to be released.
So with that said, GT4 Yes it was a pleasant suprise, and a good bang for the buck.
Now GT5 on the PS3 that is something to build your expectations about :p .

I think it is a great game but the only problem is the AI drivers just don't give a damn. If you get into their racing they will just ram you either into the wall or off the track.
Just like in a real-life race, **** like this happens when you're not good enough to stay ahead, or away from, better and more consistant drivers.
Schumack
I think GT5 will need to improve that.
Based on your miserable experience, SOMETHING certainly seems to need some improvement. There are, in fact, two sides to every coin! Ever consider the possibility that perhaps the player, and not the game, needs to be upgraded?

I love the game! I just took too long to get out, I have about another 2 to 3 months of enjoyment left.

I hope GT5 is in the works and is released with the PS3. I purchased my PS2 for GT3 and I am on my second one. My PS was bought for GT.

I hope PD and Sony get the hint.

I just recently got the game, and it has to be said the game did let me down slightly. The licence tests were quiet hard and time wasting. Also every one says how the graphics are super cool and every thing, but to be truthful there only a slight improvement from gt3. But I was super impressed with the tracks amount of cars and the amount of races on offer. And I always have a blast playing multi player with friends.

:dopey: 👍

the licence tests are meant to seperate the wannabe's from the dedicated. those people who got 80 golds off their own backs are really something :)

and the graphics rock, sure theyre only slightly better than gt3, but compare them to some other racers and the graphics are amazing

I´m rather disapointed.... The graphics are indeed awesome and the number of cars is staggering, but when you realize that probably half of it comes frome japanese manufacturers and that there are a lot of skylines, well.....And also, the AI, for the love of god, i still cant believe they have not got it right, it gets really frustrating when i have to brake early and the other cars just wont notice me there. Another thing is that i have to search for a car to be competitive (regarding a-spec points), and when i race exactly the same car as the AI i totally smoke the **** out of them.... HAving said that, the game is really awesome, the best i have played maybe, BUT i am going to give Forza a try.

Its good enough.

Personally my only major gripe with the game is the horrible menu layouts, way too much aimless clicking through different stuff to get to where you wana be.

You gotta consider this, also. Up until somewhat recently Gran Turismo was THE racing game, there was nothing even CLOSE to it to even offer any kind of competition. I can't condemn PD for having possibly gotten a little complacent because of this, but it seems to at least be partially the case. Now that there are more games gunning for the position, I think PD will rise to the challenge and that GT5 will be a much-improved game.

I still love GT4, and I'm definitely getting my money's worth out of it.

Oh and the excess of Japanese cars and lack of Porsches?

-The game's made by a Japanese company, and there are statistically ALOT of Japanese cars out there. You can hardly cite this as a flaw rather than just a virtue of logistics.

-There ARE Porsches in the game, check under the RUF company. They might not be vanilla, stock Porsches but they ARE Porsches.

Not near as good as I'd have liked, not quite as good as expected but not a big dissapointment either.

Nope. Definately not. The only thing i like more in GT4 then GT3 is that there are more cars and that you can add a spoiler to your car. That's about it. I hate the way a car controls now.

i think gt4 have some good thing gt3 doesnt have and vice versa.

for sure, ai can be still better, but they are a little faster than in gt3.

also, gt4 ,like you all know, have too much cars that are the same, skyline for example, and sometime they put one model, but the cheaper and slowest,

like the eagle talon, i wish they were put the AWD one, not that crappy thing with
the worst wheel i have seen.
:grumpy:

theres only one thing that i was really disapointed, the outside view when racing,
the car is fix on the camera, it doesnt give a good feeling imo, i miss the view in gt3 and gt2 (car is smaller)

but i have to say that i love the hood view, give a good sense of speed.

cheers

At first this game was da bomb! But it's getting harder to enjoy it :nervous:

The things that keep me hooked to this game:

Learning how to drift
Playing with photomode and getting sexy shots for the competitions
Winning money
Winning ugly cars
Turning TCS and ASM off
Looking at the g-meter
Tahiti Maze (my fav track)
Driving lower powered cars and winning
Some of the music
The sound of a sexy V8 engine
Looking at the backfire
Listening to the backfire
Buying sexy rims

:scared: drift...

one thing that i cant master on gt4, dualshock is too fast, the stick is too easy to move and too short, i think ill put a screw on the top of the stick to make it longer 💡 to get more control,

when i try to keep the drift, i come back too hard and the car suddenly flip. :yuck:

but its fun to do little overpower drift
any tips?

The new handling physics were the first thing I noticed going from GT3 to 4. Personally, I like them alot better. They feel much more natural and I think they've actually helped me drive better.

I love the new over-the-hood cam, too. I wish you could use a rear-view with it, but as far as giving you a view of the track ahead its SOO much better than bumper cam.

It's better. I was expecting a fairly difficult game as I'd heard reports of people returning the game because they found it really difficult (probably doing 200-point races ...), but it really did beat all my expectations. the only thing I don't like is the Mercedes SLR McLaren.

The controls make you drive a perfect line all the time so you won't crash. In GT3 i was movin all over the track and not allways drivin a good line. NowI drive a good line all the time. And since i got used to the controls i drive a lil like in GT3 which is faster then the GT4 way...
You'll look like an F1 driver touching the curbs everwhere on the edges and etc. . But i think would be perfect for using a steering wheel. Super perfect even if the steer can turn 900 degrees.

And for drifting (mike_gt3) , i had a hard time with this in the beginning too (i used to drift in GT3 as well). You'll just have to get used to not throwing the analoge stick to one side all of a sudden. That will make you spin for sure. Just move it gently and not so much. I can make a hard, sharp turn easily while just moving the analoge stick probably 1/4th to a side. This goes for a drift too.
Like in GT3, i moved the stick from all the way right to left (fast) which made my car spin (in GT4), as you described. Don't do that anymore (hmm i'm sounding like a teacher... ) . Just move it slowely. You can turn it all the way to the opposite side, if your sure moving it a lil bit isn't workin. Just practice and practice even more 👍

thx viperfreak, the difficult part is to move it gentle by 1 quarter inch :scared:

lol

i think they should improve this controller, make it firmer to move

I tried to keep my expectations as low as possible. I don't expect too much out of a game that I'll hate what I will eventually be playing. Only thing I expected out of GT4 was that I'd get used to the all-new stuff in GT4. When I first played GT4 at an EB Games store, I knew this was going to be a new experience. But it wasn't too new that I eventually go back to playing Gran Turismos 1, 2, or 3. I try to be a forgive-and-forget guy, so not a lot gets me disappointed about GT4.

Is GT4 as good as I expected? I expected little, still looking for reasons to dislike this game because I'm stumped. It's more than 95% perfect for what I'm looking for.

Heheh well all i can say is Practice and Practice even more. Worked for me ;)

It isn't absolutely not what I expected. After part 1,2,3, 4 prologue -> Nothing has really changed. It gets really bored. They have to think of some new things. Whereis that d..nm cockpitview with working meters!!! Currentviews really s...! Come on Poly, get creative for gods sake. It seems like milking the cow over and over again.
Better graphics, new tracks and +700 cars doesn't get the job done! :yuck:

You'd better make GT5 great otherwise I'll skip the GT series for good. :nervous:

The only thing I like, is the photomode and some hotlapping. Furthermore, I'll stick to GTR and Toca series.

I think a lot of fans of the series are being let down by version 4 of the series!

Fix IT!

I have to say that it didn't live up to the hype - but then it was so late nothing ever could.

I've lost interest a lot quicker with GT4 than i did with any of the others - GT5 better be better, even if its the same as GT4 with a 22 car grid - i'd be happy, its whats been missing from the GT series since GT2.

I pretty sure GT5 will be on the Playstation3 so there should be a 22 car grid since the PS3 can definately handle that. GT5 must be better. Its on a new console. A much stronger console that is. I think people who are new to Gran Turismo will be happy with the huge amount of cars. But for people who have been playing Gran Turismo since GT1, more, new, better cars will definately not be enough to call a fully new game good. They have to add more special things. I'm a huge sucker for the way a car sounds and i have to say that the sound of the cars in GT4 hasn't been changed that much since GT3. Now in the E3 Sony Conference where we could see a demo of Gran Turismo Vision, the sound of the cars was waaay much better. The Japanese Race cars sound great as well as the F1's. That might be a good thing to add.

Anyway i think i'm going way off topic so i'm gonna stop here...
