IS GT4 HDloader/HDAdvance combatible?

Question is in the topic
I was wondering if GT4 works when you make an iso on the pc and copy it with a programm like ps2 handiness on hdd. After that starting hdloader and enableing Mode 3 for DVD9.
This should normaly work or? I played other dvd9 games with this method before
And all the others GT where combatible

I am wondering that too
now I am in Hong kong, but I am afraid it will not work on my US PS2
so I didn't buy the game yet

I think the download version of the game is ripped from original without any cracking
and it doesn't work for many people by using double layer dvdr or HDLoader
some say it needs cracking but who knows ...
so if you planning to use HDLoader for the original game
be prepare it may not work

other thing is some japanese people have difficulty to read their GT4
they even have their webpage teaching people how to open their ps2 to clean the lens and some other stuff to improve the disc reading ability

I'm wondering if this entire conversation violates TOS here...

I can understand why you would think that it would violate the TOS, but I also would think you are wrong. I copy every game I own to my HDD in my PS2, because the loading times are much much shorter and I never have to swap disks. I am curious as to whether this game will be compatible as well.

There's an entire thread in the PS2 forum talking about it with hundreds of replies. I'd say no.

Hajaz
its not working from hd with "the usual tricks"
How would you know? The only version of GT4 out is the Japanese version. As far as I'm aware HDLoader is only available in NTSC and PAL versions.

the Japanese version IS NTSC, I have Prologue working fine on my HDLoader.

from what I have read, *noone* has tried to move an *original* copy of the game to HDLoader, only the one that was floating around the net for awhile. That *downloaded* version was nuked anyway because it didn't work.

well heres the thing, if you want to put a dvd9 game on your hd, you cant do it directly from the ps2 dvd drive...
you have to rip it to your pc first, then "flatten" the image so it looks like on big layer, then rip that directly to your ps2 hd.
The image you get first when you rip it to your pc from the retail disk, is exactly the same image that has been floating around the web.
Thats why im 100% sure you cant put it on HD.... get it?

If it ever gets ripped to HD it will be a special pirate release, or through the use of a special rip kit. mark my words

But if the image floating around the web is exactly the same as the one you can rip from the original DVD, what stops me from making it one big layer instead of two? If I got it in one layer, it should work on a hdd.

A little question: isn't Windows 2000/xp's filesystem limit of maximum 4GB per file a problem? How can you make an iso larger than that?

I think everyone needs to stop with the hearsay about whether or not it works or some theory they have on how difficult it will be to load it/ play it via hdl/hda. No one will know for sure until it is actually done, and we need a reliable source.

I have patched and played three dvd9 games out there. It's not a big deal. It was a simple and straight forward process. What my biggest concern is what format the 5.7gb version is going to be when uncompressed, and whether or not it is complete. I know from experience that for the other three dvd9 games I've tried, the first dvd was packed full, and the second dvd was only partially full. If the uncompressed version is around 8gb, as someone else posted, I won't be too worried.

The best person to ask if this works is someone on this forum who has an actual copy--1twojay or someone else. Anyways, it's going to be about 24hrs more for me to see if the copy floating around the net is real. If this doesn't work, I'm just going to go down to my local import store and buy a copy. Not a big deal for me.

Oh and by the way. We are in no way intending to pirate or talk about pirated content--I believe, because no one for sure knows whether or not the file being downloaded is for sure an actual copy of a licensed game. It is only thought to be. Furthermore, I'm sure all us being racing car enthusiasts, if we were to download such a file, would either have or buy/bought an original itself, which I plan to do once my local import store calls me Thursday morning with my reserved copy. Also, I think talking about hdl/hda is not considered talking about pirated software, because it is similar to most of Datel's products in how they boot using the crazy taxi flaw, and Datel's products are not licensed by Sony either.

Anyways, I'm just saying this in advance in my defense and for the defense of others who may be seen as having talked about piracy or have intended to use this forum to further piracy.

FAT32 (win98) has a filesize limit of 4 GB minus 1 byte, NTFS (win2000/XP) has a filesize limit of 16 terabytes minus 64 KB.

There have been plenty of DVD9 games that work on HDLoader.

Most of the info regarding HDLoader and the "net" version of GT4 are because that version is NUKED... which means it does not work.

The drive that you place the .iso on has to be formatted with hdl/hda in order to play games off of it, and you need a copy of the software on a cd or on your memory card as well. It does not need to be formatted with any version of windows or anything else. Simply plug the HD into your ps2 with a copy of HDA/HDL installed in your ps2 and a formatting screen will come up. It should take no longer than 2 minutes total.

Remember:

This isn't about pirating or illegally downloading copies from the Internet. This is about owning a legal copy of GT4 and using the HDD to speed up load times.
