searchin over if there are other sim racing on ps3. seems like gt6 is the only one. of course the gt5 is one of them.

There's a few options on PS3:
-Ferrari Challenge
-Shift 2(to a lesser extent)
-Supercar Challenge
And GT5 as you mention.

Shift 2 has the most incredible potential, and I love the game. But the cars are just LOL to drive.

If any of you have ever seen the cheap RC drift cars with plastic rear tyres, well Shift 2.

Especially the track list is fantastic. A shame really.

This is the single reason PCars remains on a knife edge in my mind. I too loved the immersive, more visceral feel of S2, made some lovely replica liveries also. Couldn't drive for toffee when I went back to GT5, so much was the need to adapt to S2's atrocious 'pivot' in centre of car physics.

PCars (moreover SMS), GT6's current state (and how it will bode for GT7) and DriveClub doesn't even come into it in my mind, are certainly making my decision when to get a PS4 a lot less taxing.

In terms of realism and physics on a console, I don't think GT6 can be topped.

I don't think DriveClub will be worthwhile. With PCars I am thinking of going PC for it as I have a feeling the PS4 version will not be quite the same as the PC version. GT7: Well if it is just the same old formula we have today, I will most likely give it a pass.

I don't know how many times it has be said by those currently playing the game for it to become truth but no, Project CARS does not feel like Shift 2.

There is only one other competitor in the driving "sim" area at the moment and that's Forza 5. Assuming you were describing them for the OP and helping him to make a buying decision, how would you compare the two in your personal, hands-on experience?

That Forza 5 has some incredible car/track selections, but nothing comes close to the realism of the physics of GT6.

Not liking your smart tone in that one.

Opinion, at most.
When Tiff Needell is doing a real life vs Forza 5 test with an R8 at Silverstone, and the thing is comically sliding like Shift 2, you can tell that the physics are tailored more towards enjoyment than full-on realism.

Just my opinion though, and i'm not putting Forza down in any way. I envy some of their car and track selections.

GT6 would fail just as hard driving any FF car in real life vs game (most particularly the Megane RS). ;) And there are probably several more cases in both games. That said, for the OP it doesn't matter, unless he wants to shell out on a XBOne.

Ontopic: Shift 2 on PS3 is almost unplayable later on in the game because of the input lag. PC doesn't suffer from it, but again: different platform.

There can be no tone in a written post. Anything you think about how he said it is entirely in your head.

Perhaps you need to start reading posts as they actually are and not attempt to translate what you think he meant.

Your opinion, or Tiffs?

But you haven't played it, have you? You can't make a true judgement of a games physics just by watching someone play it. Forza 5 physics could well be worse but I don't know, I haven't played it either.

I have played it. I've tested each one since Forza 2, and I actually think the old physics engines bear some resemblance to GT6 in the steering feel. But Forza 5 feels like a weird mix of sim and Shift 2 input lag/sliding thing.

As I said, it's all opinion. I'm sure some people will get bored to death with GT6 and find Forza much more thrilling.

Imo and with hands-on experience...

GT6 drives better than Forza 4 but F4 has a better car selection and a livery editor

Shift 2 was indeed a missed opportunity. Good car selection, good tracks, better than
GT6 AI, livery editor, but lousy handling

Ferrari challenge (and by extension, Supercar Challenge) has very good handling but
the AI is wonky

Absurdly slow in the turns and rocket powered on the straights. I don't think it's rubber
banding because it does it whether you're behind, in the lead or in the middle
