Is Is GT5 the best value for money game ever created?

I have finally... finally begun to play a few other games I bought, one at a time. Oh, and when Forza 4 came out, I played that for a few frustrating days in a row. Something about that game and me just don't connect.

But GT5? I can - and have - spent countless days just in Arcade Mode racing various tracks and saving replays for Photo Mode, where the only reward is the racing. As others have discovered, racing on the Nurburgring and watching daytime slip into darkness, and with rain, is the most AMAZING experience I've ever had in a racing game. And man, all those cars... it's my mission now to buy every single one, and eventually race them, though for now, I really need a car with at least 150hp. I need some excitement besides the cool visuals. ;)

I can't say enough about GT5. I'll be playing it until GT6 comes, or the Lord. And by all means, you have to get hold of a good wheel, like the DFGT at least. If you don't have one, you're not experiencing the real Gran Turismo 5.
Nice post :-) 👍 - Love the Nurburgring anecdote. First time it went dark on me, freaked me out, LOL. Must get a wheel. I do ok with the DS3, but I must at least try a wheel. My step-daughter's boyfriend said he'd lend his one to me sometime... must call in that favour :-). Im up to around 700 cars, and in all honesty am quite "full up". Actually am redoing my 2nd account with premiums only and really driving them as I get them (all aids off). Sublime.

In life, one has to make concessions and compromises. My wife, for instance, can put up with tons of stress, the apocalypse, etc., but refuses to live without cable TV. It's a small luxury that makes the long hard days at work worth it, and the expense in exchange for piece of mind and relaxation more than justifies the cost.

The Gran Turismo series has been that way for me. I've been playing since the demo for the first one on the PSOne, and have owned every one since. Compared to other forms of entertainment, my GT5 Collector's Edition plus DLC has paid for itself countless times, and will do so until 6 comes out.

Not only that, but the GT series allows me to do at home what can't be done in the real world (without serious consequences)- drink and drive. No need to leave the house when I got a 6 pack (don't drink often so I'm a cheap drunk) and a controller.

Yep. the beauty of GT5 is that you can enter an intense race one day and the next day just simply cruise on the weather/day change nurburgring track with the HUD off and just relax as you watch the sunrise. It never gets old.

i love gt5
What Oh man? It's a great game.

I dunno.. I was a pretty big Call of Duty fan until this game. Black Ops I hated when it was out but it's way better now. I guess Call of Duty is just kinda stale to me. The Singleplayer didn't really excite me nor did the multiplayer. The Spec Ops was fun at first but got old quick. I got the platinum and don't have any desire to come back to it.

I love Black Ops, singleplayer is not fun but online it is. MW3 is expensive but fun to play and is nice made.

I wish the new Call of Duties weren't so complicated online. I loved the Modern Warfare 1 and World at War formula. All the same streaks, no pro perks but a lot of perks, and simple gun challenges. I would have liked more attachments for the weapons but ah well.

Well it is for me especialy since I didn't even pay retail at the time, I think I paid $64 when it was still around the $99 mark in stores... but then I paid 120 bucks for a Driving Force GT later, even with that, I've definately played this more than any two games combined, the amount of hours on this thing. I mean last I checked I'd driven something like 15,000kms and that was a while ago now, it might even be close to 20,000kms.

Best value for money game I've ever bought, best game I've ever bought full stop. Is there a cure for this disease we have fellas?

Not sure if there is. Its therapeutic in any case for me - destresses me (at least that's my excuse ;-) ) - Like dr3w says, once a petrol head...

PS. Whats the Driving Force GT like? I must take the plunge and consider a wheel soon. Everyone goes on about GT25 , GT27, not sure which to go for!

No. GT5 is not the best value game available. GT4 is.

I have a DFGT and it's great. The only bad things I have to say about it is that the pedals are a bit too light and the gear changing flaps are a bit too small. The rest is great. The force feedback is amazing and it is really comfortable to use.
It's great as a value wheel IMO. I say this to every DS3 user: If you get a wheel remember it takes ages to get used to. Lots of practice and patience is needed. Always remember that.
When I got my first wheel I just about kicked the thing lol. Now I wouldn't look back.

Thanks m8. Love the idea of this... "If you get a wheel remember it takes ages to get used to. Lots of practice and patience is needed. Always remember that." - lol. Right up my street. Am just about getting there without the aids on with the more powerful cars like the McLaren F1, and I'm going to throw a wheel into the mix... great stuff!!! I think there's something faintly masochistic about this "game".

I can't comment on the G27. But as a G25 and DFGT owner, I can say that the DFGT is amazingly close in feel, and thus is quite the bargain. The only problem is that the shifter "paddles" - they're rather small - aren't quite as far out on the wheel as others have been, so if you have short fingers you'll have to do some reaching if you're a paddle shifter. My fingers are a tad bit short for a grown up, but I adjusted to it pretty easily. There is an up-down shifter, but paddle shifting is one of the best things ever.

If you think you'd want the full monty of a clutch and H shifter though, the G27 is your wheel.

And as for other GT games, I know that GT4 is still some people's faves, and I'm still in awe of that thing. There are TONS of events, as it was made for long term offline play. But the physics are primitive in comparison, and even though there are about a third to a quarter (!) as many A-Spec Events as there are in GT4, I can't seem to ever get bored of the Arcade Mode, with all that can be done on those 60-plus tracks, plus the weather/time things, and with excellent bot A.I. It's like GT4 times ten.

Well there you go.
Confession is good for the soul.
I told you buying those games meant you really wanted to play something else. ;)

BTW I'm still playing FM4 but its wearing on my nerves a bit.

Basically its another retread, better in some ways, but still a retread.

I do want to play other games. Once in a while. But to be honest, this past week has exhausted me, and the only reason I haven't been playing GT5 all week is because I nod off during replays. :D I'm saving Ratchet & Clank All 4 One for when I get the stereo set up this week.

As for those short paddles on the DFGT, someone came across these easy to install adapters. $34 and $36 for "carbon fiber."

GT5 isn't the best value-for-money game, but it's definately up there.

As some has already mentioned, GTA San Andreas, GT4 and then, some, might find that Football Manager / FIFA will do the trick, although the last two comes out every year.
The new Skyrim could possibly be one of the top games too.

If GT5 isn't the greatest game ever created, it's pretty high on the list, at least for me. It's been out more than a year now, and I still log in and play every single day. I don't think there's ever been another game I could say that about.

No game ever written for any platform can hold a candle to ELITE.
Years ahead of its time, (and probably most of the posters here) and still a blast to play today. Head and shoulders above everything - Dungeon Master perhaps a distant 2nd place.

Best value for money has to go to Skyrim for sure or Saints Row 2 and SR3. There is just so much to do in those games its overwhelming. The amount of coding involved has to be insane. Especially since SR2 and SR3 are both full co-op campaign sandbox games. Skyrim is definetly at the top for best value. Nothing else even compares to that game. So much dialog, so many places to visit, so much to do.
In terms of racing games with the most value that EASILY goes to Test Drive Unlimited 2. Its basically the MMO of racing games on 2 full islands.

Best value for any game I've played. I've stuck way more time into GT5 then I have any other game, and plan to stick countless more hours into it. I also prefer racing over shooters, although GTA IV is probably my second most played game. Really want to try out saints row 3, and then hopefully GTA V will come out and have a lot more content along with refined online play.

Nope, for me it's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots.

Bought it in June '08, played single player for 2 months and then went online which has kept me playing 'till January 2011 (got GT5).
That's a game which has kept me playing it for 2.5 years (as my main game) at least 2 hours a day - for 60 euros.

2.5 years of playing for 60 euros, GT5 has some catching up to do.

Did some math, so in order for GT5 to beat MGS4 in best value for money - I need to keep playing GT5 as my main game for 43 months/3.5 years.
Value for money equation: price of the game/time period of active playing (euros/months).
The less the number is - the better value for money is.
MGS4=2
GT5=8.5

GT5 hasn't left the console for over a year, so I'd say yes.

I thought the American dollar and the Australian dollar were closer than that.

Yeah, the Aussie dollar is worth more than the US at the moment, but we still get shafted on prices.

GT5 costs $60 and there are 1000 cars, so do the math:
60/1000=.06
6 cents (USD) per car seems pretty awesome, plus the beautiful tracks, great physics. I would say you get the best "bang" for your buck.

best online muti-cultural multiplayer racing game. period. how gt5 manage to connect 16 players from different continents without noticable lag is beyond me

This thread is a Rhetoric question i have been asking my self of late. The best value game ever ? Well it depends on many many factors. I suppose it all comes down to personal choice and time invested. There is no doubt that GT5 here has longevity and unlimited replay value. There is plenty of modes, great developer support and online racing to keep every motor nut hooked. Not to mention a hard trophy curve, licenses and special events to tear your hair out to.

To answer the question properly. It takes a gamer with experience of many genres and games to answer honestly. I have put hundreds of hours into shooters, sports games, role players over many platforms. Yet, I am still trying to conquer GT5 and in all honesty doubt i will ever prevail. I only payed £10 for my copy retail. Which is not even 15 dollars or euro. So for me that makes the question concerned even harder. I cant think of any game driving or not i have had better value at. Name me a game thats better for the buck than GT5, and i am all ears ! So... i'd say Yes ! just like the man from delmonte :)

Personally this is one of the best games I've ever bought. Even though this can does have some problems I still give it a 9/10.

Now to me, I find a spec and b spec to be incredibly boring and easy. I end up falling asleep after half a lap. There's absolutely no thrill. (I know a lot of you do like it, this is just my opinion. Don't yell at me)

I've been racing online since release date. This is where this game shines for me. Racing bumper-to-bumper lap after lap without touching one another is insanely fun to me. I always use simulator settings (which is all aids off, real grip, full damage, and tire wear). I also do a lot of endurance racing. On New Year's me and seven others did a six hour endurance on La Sarthe in the untuned Evo X TC.

I run in a racing series called RCS (race challenge series). We are now six weeks into our season two. They are always one make races. We alternate weeks between tuned (racing tires) and untuned vehicles (sport tires). We race on Sundays and do three 75 to a 100 mile races. Each week is really two weeks, the first being qualifying and the second being the race. You have to qualify on all three tracks. You're given five laps and your fastest lap will be your qualifying time (tire wear is off to give everyone the same advantage, this is the ONLY time it's off). The top 12 times are invited to the race. This is some of the toughest and some of the most fun racing I have done.

My biggest problem with GT5 wouldn't necessarily be the game itself but the people who play it. Now I know it's a game, and you can play a game how you want to play it. But I get super annoyed going into the open lobby and find 90% of the rooms don't run tire wear. This is the closest thing on a console to a simulator and people want to set it up like an arcade game. My next biggest complaint would be penalties. I don't like running them because I don't think turning invisible is very realistic. But there's always at least one idiot who cuts when you turn them off. That's why I think my biggest advice to anyone who plays this game online is to fill your friends list up with as many good drivers as you can. Once you found some really good PATIENT drivers this game is truly unbelievable.

So for me personally, yes this is the best valued games I've ever bought. I have more hours on GT5 than all others combined.

For me it is. Variety. Change. New content. Tuning, customizing, racing. Online, offline, seasonal challenges. All of these things offer great replay value for me.

Of course, there are some disappointing things in the game, but they are easy for me to accept and just enjoy the game.
