Is Is GT5 the best value for money game ever created?

Earlier this morning, I was literally grinning to myself, in last place for 2 races; losing has never felt so good.

Why? Because I am slowly learning to drive, really drive, these wonderful cars PD has given me, which I would be lucky to even see in real life.

Now with ABS off, manual gears (I know, I know, I should have made the transition sooner :-) ), I am really starting to "feel" the true greatness of the simulation.

So, what's the point of this thread? Well, I have had the game for a year, and possibly driven around 500 hours, offline. First racing to get cars, and money, etc, then slowly the game has evolved into simply enjoying the driving, full stop. Peeling back the layers of the wonderful engine, and getting more and more "in tune" with the various beasts of the cars we have on offer.

Does anyone know of any piece of gaming software which offeres better value for money? I cannot even guess how many more wonderful hours of driving this will hold my attention for.

And I'm talking off-line games. I can't think of anything myself :)

(really its a big THANK YOU to PD for their achievement, hidden under the guise of a question about VFM ;-) )

PS... I can start to imagine why PD have cars which you can't really race with like the Ferrari F1s or the Vettel. They are there for those who love to toy with cars, test them out on the practice runs (I am finding I am using the practice runs more than anything, avoiding the other AI drivers). Once I have really got to grips with the driving model, maybe in a couple of years or so, Ill get into the online side, LOL.

Some people should learn a thing or thing with this guy. 👍
THIS is the entire point of Gran Turismo. :sly:

Really don't mean to come off as a jerk, but learn what exactly. He doesn't even race online, where the challenge is.

Not really the best off-line value at all. Too few events. Take away all online events and activity and it's actually kind of a rip off at it's original price. It makes more sense to say that a game like Skyrim or an RPG would be the best value for the money (I don't play those types of games). GT4 is a LOT better value in it's day than GT5.

Not to be a jerk but, racing online is the challenge to you. It seems that the challenge to him is perfecting each car and tune for each track, racing to beat his best times, and improving his overall performance each time he turns on the PS3.

Call of Duty 4 (PC) is the best value for money in my opinion.

Played it for more then 4000 hours!
Just to bad todays shooter games isnt even close in quality and fun. (BF3 for PC is the closest though).

Anyway, GT5 is also alot value for your money, even the expensive Signature Edition. 👍

Certainly great value for money for gt5. Enjoys just driving the cars for it's own sake.
Played almost everyday for 9 months and then switch to skyrim (200+ hrs and almost platinum) for 3months. Now I am back to gt5. Not sure how many hours but 2*** plus race days to date.

I 100% respect that. And believe me my friend I've spent A LOT of time doing the same thing. I know sometimes I come off the wrong way. It's just when I see people race only off-line and not online I feel like they've lost out on a lot of experience. There's always someone out there faster than you and you can learn a lot from them. I have come an incredibly long way in tuning and driving since I started going online and racing against really good drivers. I totally understand that some people do not have access to the online portion but there's a lot of people that do and just simply do not get a online. Plus online with tire wear and real grip it's a more realistic driving experience.

I base the value for money equation on how much time I've enjoyed playing a game and my level of enjoyment of the game well into it's life cycle. GT5 is tops on my list on both counts. More than a year after it came out, I still find new things to do, new challenges to conquer and still simply enjoy driving and racing the various car/tire/track/tune combinations.

It certainly is one of the most developer supported game. Although a lot of stuff should have been there from the start!

Great game but I'm a sim racing nut.

I really should put a little piggy bank on the top of the PS3 -- £1 for 5 races...

...Gonna need a bigger piggy bank.

Not sure how one really learns to drive and I mean really driver/race with GT5 as the teacher. If it isn't offline unrealistic slow AI, it's the horrid racers you can pick from most of the time online. Yet that doesn't even being to list the problems that make GT not as realistic as it could be, however I do think that if you join the proper race leagues one can become really good, but I don't know how good it makes you of a driver in a real world setting.

Games like iRacing and other online games seem to do that better. At least seen from a Gregor Huttu point of view.

So best value for the money...not really. Especially if you bought a collectors edition.

Yes GT5 gives HUGE bang for the buck value. With all the consistent and new seasonal events, new car dealer updates, infinite range of car tweaks & tunes... all that stuff adds up to a meticulous simulation experience. However, comparing it to other games (assuming all games are purchased new for the same price) I say no, GT5 is NOT the best value for the dollar but it ranks up there. There are lots of other awesome games in other genres and on other platforms (like others mentioned GTA4, Mass Effect 2/3, Gears of War, Red Dead Redemption, SkyRim, etc).

I'm sorry, but what exactly is your point? That doesn't seem to justify if GT5 is the best value for the money at all, honestly it just seems like you're looking for fan boy reaction..

No it isn't, not at all. Outdated car list, minimal events to participate in, no features numerous other games have (livery editor), and let's not forget how they shafted the tyre wear....

Yes. And mind you I spent 200€ on it (Signature Edition + DLCs).

Even at this price, it still beats every other game at its regular price (50€-70€).

I've been playing it since launch and I'll play it at least for another year. There's no other game that allows this. At best, you'll get 6 months out of a good game.

And I don't even play online.

Content, support and longevity. Nuff said.

Actually I'm responding to what the OP says, if you look at how he starts off the topic and reasoning behind GT5 being the bang for buck to him, I disagree. I don't think that is why it is a bang for buck. Then again compared to those before it, I don't think it has any bang for buck to begin with.

Also if I was trying to bring the fan boys out of the wood work I'd have done it with ease and bringing up other things that have nothing to do with the topic. However, I am following AUP and just making a simple response that I don't see how the OP gains that reaction from playing the game. Doesn't mean they're wrong I just want to know how and have obviously shown why I don't get the same reaction.

This is one of the few times I agree with Stavelot these are many of the frequent reasons that I don't see it being a bang for your buck. There is no linear growth to the platform just "let's use what we've done since the early to mid 90s with less euphoria and put in a few new but incomplete items to stay fresh with the others".

No.

FIFA has over 10000 Players. And in GT are to many "Same" Cars (GT-R - i Love that Car seriosly and others)

- less race Events
- Not the Most Race Series Rally, Kart, Nascar, SuperGT,... A other Game has more.
- some Race Series with weak value (F1 - ok was/is a license Problem)
- less Race modes

I think it has much value, but is Not the biggest Game. And remember value istn everything :) You Need a Good Selection of Cars like FM4 for example.

I Play GT for years now :)

Maybe not the best value of all, but I spent a lot of money to play gt5 (didn't have a ps3 or a proper screen) and haven't looked back. It was a great purchase and I still enjoy it almost daily.

DGXR: The OP actually said offline value. The online component does make it a lot better but looking at it from an offline viewpoint only (no seasonals, no dlc, no online racing) the game has minimal content compared to GT4 and a lot of other games.

I'd have to say it is. I have never seen a game show up on so many of my friends Now Playing box so consistently as I have GT5.

On average when I log in there are usually 20 of my "friends" online 50% - 75% will be GT5 and it has been that way for over a year.

Yes GT5 is the best fun per $ you can get. I've seen some AAA titles come and go, sure some of my friends go play Skyrim or something, but after a week or so, it is back to GT5.

I didnt read any comments,

but I think GT5 has more value for money than any other game I ever had!
I do like many games like- Hitman, Elders Scrolls, GTA etc.. all great games but GT has more real information more content...

Oh i have one.... It is the newest game made by Turn10 i can't say the name here (only describe).

Mh. I habe to agree. I Play alot more GT5 than other Games, but if you Look at the available p Cars, Race Modes, Events (offline), dlc, online Modes, Community Service.

Yes objectiv FM4 has alot more to offer. As i Said i like GT alot more and Play more GT, but Forza has more value.

I already answered the questions with FIFA 12 that has more value (offer 10000 Players all Big Teams etc., Multi League,....)

Forza and GT are Not Near to Fifa in Terms of value.

👍 Yeah we all know that football games in general are more exciting. I mean EA always hits the nail on the head almost every time, but their racing genre is a different story.

I like Racing more. The Thread ask a about the Most value ever released in a Game and FIFA 12 is the Answer.

I prefer Racing Games especially GT5, bur it hasn't the Most value. A Lot ... But Not the Most.
