Is it me or does anyone else find the standard models more desirable?

I'm a premium guy myself. I started out on standards though.

I'm going to play another account and try to do it as much premium as possible (trucks/F1 obviously prevent a complete game). Probably take a little longer to get started but after that it should be smooth sailing.

i'm exactly the opposite. I only race standards when I absolutely have to.

Me too. I like the cockpit view.
I might get tired of that view someday and then it won't matter to me.

I don't get the obsession with premium cars. I really couldn't care less between the two. I guess it would be different if you use the cockpit view. I use bumper cam though, so I just usually buy the best option.

Everytime i win a standard and not a premium it makes me sad.

Well, I just found the handling/sounds/hood view from standards are pretty decent. And some look great too.

I'm having TONS of fun with my 2 beetles... around 55hp, 670kg RR... fun, fun, fun! I'll post some screens later!

I've only bought 1 premium car, the M3, and most of the standard cars I've bought have been to unlock different colours (for painting the M3 :) )

Standard cars and Premium models are EXACTLY the same to me..... I only use bumper cam. I always have in racing games, and always will. I have just as many standard cars on my online favorites list as I do Premium, maybe more. And when I'm in a nice car online, like my Amuse Carbon R34, people say, hey I like that car, not hey that looks like a standard model car. They look just as good. And I say the same when he's running his GNX, which I'm so jealous off. Still hasn't come up in used. Been looking since Day 1. I offered him any of my cars for it, lol........no dice.

I believe the game was better to include them as they are rather than not at all. As i prefer driving with the bumper cam (better accuracy on the track), I only enjoy the premium interiors for races I've doing over for more money.

GT5 is one great game!

Some standards look fantastic! Like the furai concept, I thought that was premium when that rolled up! I think the midget looks pretty good too. Like a lot of people I just use bumper view anyway so the difference in modeling doesn't bother me that much. Just in b spec and replays the poor textures start to bother me. I try to paint the cars black or dark colours to hide the low res textures Haha.

I just use whatever car I need/want to. I don't really consider whether a car is Premium or Standard, especially since I use roof cam.

It makes me wish the garage weren't split into 2 different sections for Premiums and Standards though. I'll be using one type and totally forget about the cars I have of the other type.

Yeah, it's rather annoying. What I do is just put every car into favorites [needed anyway since favorites is the only part of the garage that shows up online]. Though, it only has 100 slots.

If you could bodykit parts, rims, wings to the standards i could go without the cockpit view.

Since i cant do that, i`m sticking 99% with premiums, unless a car is required for which there is no premium.

Standard cars vary from bad to hardly noticeable. The premiums are just too awesome though. Same goes for the tracks. The various Tokyo stages compared to the likes of Cote de Azur or Laguna Seca for example.

But overall from a gameplay point of view they are great. The eye candy with premium cars on good looking tracks is too good though and they seem better optimised amusingly. Obviously I also prefer to buy premium :)

Although a bit of a sidenote: You can put wings on (certain?) standard cars.

Well.. The only premium cars i purchased are the BMW M5, Z4M Coupe and the M3. And im not even wanting to drive them in coock-pit view. Im using bumper cam for all the cars since it's the only drivable view. Used cars a the shi*. Got the Bugatti veyron and im sad that it doesn't even have reverse lights!! M3 CSL ''00 is just sheer pleasure to drive.

In other words.. Used cars should be alot more accessable. Because im never gona visit the stupid dealership again.

+100 im faster on bumper cam , and standard car do just fine for me.
i love my ae86 shigeno

Yeah I actually like buying the standards. They are pretty dam fast.

I find this to, its either because they have no interior or that the game seems to run slower with cockpit on.

Ive sold every standard model ive got through prizes except the Veyron which i CANT sell and i havent driven it yet nor am i planning to.
I can't stand the standards, to me, GT5 has 200 cars.

I keep wasting my money buying cars I love as soon as they appear in the used lot, has kept my credits low the whole time. Desperately want an Aston V8 Vantage that appeared in there near the start of the game, but I didn't have anywhere near the requisite 334,000 to buy it.

Currently have about 10k :(

Glad to see I'm not the only one in this boat. Had to get a PT Cruiser and a Lexus IS200 just to prove to the wife I could beat her by using the PT. :)

Chrysler Prowler? Had to have it.

Skyline with the midnight purple paint scheme? Come to daddy. Same with you, lime green NSX. (Also been guilty of buying a few cars just to have the color later on. Still kicking myself for not buying the old Cougar with the lavender-like paint.)

I've currently been "behaving", though, since I still need a few more credits to buy a Gallardo outright for its single-make race I have coming up. But as many have said, I only use the bumper cam, so standard/premium is the same to me right now. That will likely change later on when I spend more time in photo tour mode.

I agree, I just can't use a car unless I can see all of those things from the cockpit of the car.

Im adicted to the used cars too. Im always looking at it to see if there are fun cars, or a car i need to race with.

I think i have like 6 diferent RX-7's lol. Love the car and everytime i go to the used car dealer it seems there is a newer model aviable :-)

Also just got the RUF yellowbird.
👍 i absolutely agree with you. and every single post as followed.
I feel better now, knowing that i am not the one liking Standard car.
It's not so much the esthetic, but it's rather more about limited opportunity to get certain cars. It's the fact of collecting cars at the right time, based on random availability: "GOTTA GET THEM ALL!!" This game is like Pokemon for the grown ups :p

Completely addicted to the Used Lot and the Standard cars. Seeing as I prefer roof cam anyhow, I'm right at home. Most of the cool cars are Standards, because the 20/80 divide just makes it so. And very few Standards look poopy.

I did buy one Premium, but eventually when I'm finally as rich as Trump, I'll have all the cars at least once.
So far i only bought one Premium car, i think the reason i pay more attention to the Standard cars is because the Premium car is always there for you to buy them anytime you want. As opposed to Standard cars that come and go, you basically always/constantly looking for the good/awesome buy. The surprise factor is much more fun... ! It's one of the aspect of the game that keeps me coming back :D

I have so many more Standards. I find buying Standards from the used lot is far more rewarding in terms of the surprise that you could get anything. Plus the cooler cars are generally standard. :)
Well said 👍

They have the same physics model. Practically identical.

On that note, I really want an option to remove the horrible segregation of my garage.
The (driving) physics is the same regardless of the (graphical) physics of the car. The cool factor is to be able to drive the car you like and enjoying it virtually. Dont judge the book by its cover ;)

Just like you and Exorcet, i just wish Kaz/PD had put a tab that would list all the cars at the same time, regardless of Standard or Premium categories, i want to see all of my cars in one screen. Segregation is so last century now!

My garage:

100+ Standards

8 Premiums

I love rare old cars :D
Couldn't agree more with you ! 👍

I too have a habit of blowing my hard earned money in the used car lot. Anything made before 1980 - into my garage you go! My most used car right now: 1963 Alfa Romeo Giulietta

I've probably done at least 1000 laps around Madrid in that car and it has been awesome at least 999 of those.

My next project is the Karmann Ghia I finally found in the lot last night. Very big moment for me!

I really love the standard cars.

depth of cars in the used lot... gotta love the classics especially.

yeah, no cockpit view but I've been playing bumper view for years so it's no big deal.

some of the standard models look pretty good too. example: Amuse Carbon R

I'm addicted to the used lot. never know what might come up. makes it pretty exciting and fun collecting.

only bad part... I keep spending my money that I need to buy the more expensive cars for the top races! :dunce:

standard cars are very nice... but they don't have cockpit view and... there isn't an other good view!!!!
Roof view is so high that it doesn't feel natural to drive from that view with a wheel... especially when countersteering etc...
hood view would be ONE OF THE BEST UPGRADES (with also a very little effort from polyphony!!!!) for GT5!!!! Imagine finally having fun driving standard cars with a wheel!!!!! They are 800 cars!!!! I am tweeting kazunori about it, but he still doesn't answer me.
TWEET KAZ about HOOD view!!! He is actually answering to lots of posts, if many of us tweet him about hood view, he will surely notice it!!!

This is refreshing. I saw all this negativity surrounding standard models, that I actually thought only I liked them.

👍

I actually think the best part of gt5 is collecting used and rare cars from the used lot. I think the people that are new to GT series stick to preimum, while older GT players prefer the rarer cars. I love going to race and checking what is new at the used lot.

I have so many of my fav cars there, and in a way its like playing lottery with cars, you will never knows what are the 6 cars that draws out out of 800. Now that IS fun to me. :D

Dealership cars are ALWAYS and forever there so what is the rush in buying them? I rather buy a IS200 GT1 race car than a Lambo sv, because ive only seen IS200 GT1 race car ONCE. Seeing rufs are like pikachu in Viridian forest:P

I cant get enough of USED CARS!!

I can't drive in cockpit nor bumper cam as fast as i can as using the whole car view. I find it easier to judge where the apex is in relation to my car. I wish the camera would slightly shift towards where you are turning.

Due to that, I only want to drive premiums because I don't want to look at low poly models.

The standard cars are fine. I have slightly more standards than premiums, however i prefer the premium cars just because of the cockpit view as it`s much more realistic and i like to watch the dials move on the gauges, once again due to the realism.

Unfortunately I consider the standard cars all but useless without a cockpit view. If no cars in the game had cockpit view I would begrudgingly accept it if the game was otherwise great, but mixing up different camera views within the same game is something I just haven't been able to accept yet, even though I have tried on a few occasions.
