Is it possible for course maker to create a track that has tight hairpins?

You can't make chicanes or sharp turns. Sucks eh.
Only way you can make a track more challenging is by having elevation change in corners. By luck...

It's hard, but not too hard to create a few tracks that have a balance between being easy enough to learn, but hard enough to keep people interested and 'perfect' consistent laps a challenge.

Keep driving around the track you started, concentrate on the racing line, use different cars to see what area's are 'flat out' and what area's you have to lift, or brake hard for.

You might have to change the segments number, either up or down, or you might have to sacrifice a particular section you like in order for the complete lap to feel balanced and good.

Send me a friends request and I'll show you a couple of my tracks, most of them I don't use or like, but a couple have proved extremely popular, even in random online lobbys. Once you have driven the tracks yourself I can explain to you how I done it and that should help you with your track design / feel.

PSN = same as GTP ID.

No hairpins ? :(((

I think I've gotten a hairpin in one of the track types, Toscana? Whatever the tuscany-esque theme is.

It seems like different course types have different possible corners, but none of them end up being particularly challenging in my experience, just more awkward.

Thanks mate :).Actually wanted to create a track like the stelvio pass, getting bored of toscana tarmac.

Cranking the complexity up to 10 is not the end-all-be-all of what makes a track challenging. A 40-turn track is not necessarily any more 'difficult' than a 10-turn track. It's like Highlandor said--it's about feel. You'll have to play around with different settings to get something satisfying; the game can't tell the difference between a track with good flow and one without it-you have to drive it and find out. But in my experience, some of the best circuits I've made are ones that are fast, open and not terribly complex.

Forgot to mention.

Don't design your track by the number of corners, complexity, max speed a car reaches, length, height variation or anything that limits it.

Always change, amend or improve your track according to the racing line and how that feels.

Don't use too many twisty bits, don't be afraid to put a straight in, in can radically alter the options available to you in another area of the track.

Also, utilise the camber, track width and corner sharpness to your advantage, don't be afraid to make some areas of the track tighter, and maybe increase the width where there's a good overtaking opportunity.

Don't be afraid of natural negative camber, sometimes leaving a bit of negative camber on a bend can make it so different.

Just keep experimenting, keep trying and most importantly of all, save a copy of the track when you're halfway there as back up, and just keep driving round it over and over again, check any change of section by doing 2-3 full laps and seeing how that change would affect a race, rather than that individual section.

Good luck.

:D

There is a section for this here :- GT5 Course Maker
Not only is that the correct area to post this, you'll probably get better answers there too. I have no idea about anything to do with the Course Maker since I've never used it, but I'm willing to bet everyone in the Course Maker section has.;)

Title changed.New question,is it possible to create a track with tight hairpins?

It's very difficult, you just have to keep changing variables and using higher complexitiy sections, even then the chances of getting a decent hairpin, with a decent approach in exactly the place you want it to be are very slim, almost non existent.

Hairpins, 90 degree turns, chicanes etc etc are all difficult, if not virtually impossible to get exactly what you want in exactly the position you want them, both in terms of whereabouts on track and the entry and exit of them.

You just have to work with what your given, or as mentioned before, change / sacrifice another area of the track to give you a different set of options. It takes alot of time and effot, but, eventually, with a bit of persistence you can come up with something good.

Don't start with a preplanned image of what you want, just look at what your getting and try and work with that. You'll drive yourself mad trying to create that perfect track you have a vision of in your mind, or your favourite corner(s) from your favourite real life / in game tracks.

That's a bit presumptuous don't you think??

You admit you've never used the course maker and your stating our answers aren't as good as those in the Course Maker section.

Have you ever considered the fact some of the guys that have answered this thread have actually spend alot of time in the course maker subsection, and have also spent alot of time learning, understanding and mastering the course maker itself??

In future, maybe you shouldn't be so quick to point out other's mistakes when the mistakes you're making are just as bad, if not worse.

If you think our answers are so bad, let's see what tracks you can come up with and what 'procedure' of creating a good track you use.

:dunce:

To me it seems that the course maker section has not been used and this is more of a question than showing a track, hence I chose here.
Highlandor I get what you mean,I'll never get a stelvio pass or the consecutive hairpins at Eiger,so gotta compromise as you said.Looks like unless alot of luck is involved it's not gonna happen...

Yes, you do need a bit of luck because the layout of the track can change dramatically with just a small change to one section, and a corner that was either flat or open now has one of those really annoying blind crests before it.

This is where luck can play a part, you might get lucky and have a decent flowing section given to you as an option by the course creator, and the geographical layout of the landscape suits it perfectly, other times, the landscape will work against you.

It's also the length of the track that plays a part, smaller tracks are slightly easier to get right or to feel good, longer tracks are much harder and the element of luck playing a part is possibly greater.

Trying to build a good, long, fast and flowing track will have you tearing your hair out, but with alot of practice, patience, a bit of knowledge and some luck, you can eventually do it.

I got one some time back, but that was the only one:(
Oh well. Will be trying then.If you don't mind I'll take a look st some of yours as well.:)

No problemo..

At the moment, the most popular track of mine is still on my favourites list, more people than not seem to like it. A few don't, but you can't please everyone all of the time.

Just send friends request and download it from 'community' - my ID.

Just keep practising and save a copy of your track, also take a break from it after a while, come back to it a day or two later with a clear head, you might see something you missed when you were tearing your hair out previously!!

I'll be going online in a open lobby soon, if you're on your PS3 then come and join, I'll take you round the track - personal tour :D
