Is it possible to get gold in all licenses using the Sixaxis/DualShock?

I've been having trouble getting all golds for license tests using a sixaxis controller. ABS off seems out of the question when using the sixaxis, so I'm going through the game with it set to 1 (or whatever it will continue to default to). For now I'm settling on silvers, and moving on.

Has anyone managed to get all golds for any of the licenses using only a sixaxis or dualshock?

I'm in the same boat, mate. I'm settling for Silvers.

I'm sure if you try REALLY hard, you could get Gold in the Nationals, perhaps the lower Internationals... But all of them? Probably not, unless you're REALLY good with the controller, which is a waste of time. Lol.

I got all golds in National A with a Dualshock, so at least that's possible and I doubt National B will be too hard when I go back and do that one. Haven't tried any International licenses yet.

I did think today that getting gold in the first World Tour race might not be possible with it though. It's that Alfa with like 500 hp around Eiger and it's a pain, haven't even got silver yet. With traction control off it slides everywhere and it's really tough to get the power down coming out of corners and with it on it understeers like crazy on the tight turns at the beginning.

NASCAR is hard with the Dualshock too. The steering has to be really light and exact, so you can imagine how that goes.

I don't see why not, I've played every other GT game with the standard joystick and I've gotten 99.9% golds.

I managed to pull off a Silver in the first World Tour race. But you are right, that Alfa is a PAIN IN THE ASS to steer with the controller. I agree that Gold would be near-impossible.

Managed all gold except for 2 in National B. Using Dualshock. I think it was 6 & 7 that had me, will probably go back give em another go. Just to see what car ya get for the all gold.

Yeah I think when he says sixaxis he might mean the wii style tilt the controller to steer mechanism, although I can't think why anyone would use that over analogue stick.

No, I think he means the controller, SIXAXIS was the name of the controller before it had DUALSHOCK. (I've got a SIXAXIS because it doesn't have vibration).

Have you tried changing your button config so that Accel/Brake is on the triggers? That makes it a hell of a lot easier to drive FR cars :)

I got all gold in National A and B with a dualshock.
Got to international and I started to give up.
The times for some of the gold are borderline ridiculous.
I have 5 gold and 4 silver in International C. Last race is pissing me off, because I keep hitting the damn cars or the track with that unstable ferrari.

Dual shock user - All gold B & A Halfway through I-C looking good for this one as well :-D

I'm having such a hard time with the DualShock. I'm stuck on B-5 with the Peugeot 207. I find it near impossible to get below 18.900 with TCS/ABS off, but I'm stubbourn about playing with any assists on.

I got all gold on National B & A classes with a DS3. It's all about smoothness. If you are still using X and square, I doubt you'll gold them. Try switching gas and brake to R2 and L2. Another quick tip is if you know your going to fail, restart.

Also it doesn't really help that just like in the prologue and unlike in GT4, the amount you move the joystick or the trigger on your controller doesn't correlate with the amount of throttle ingame. It moves to about 50% throttle normally and after that you need to be really precise because it increases in bigger increments. That doesn't apply to braking though but it basically means that anyone using a controller is likely to lose more tenths when exiting a corner rather than entering one. I'm not saying it's impossible to overcome though. Just that you need a lot of finesse with your inputs.

I have got a g27 wheel but i'm more comfortable with a dualshock for licences (i'm not very sharp with the wheel, i'm a beginner with it).

I got with the pad B A IC IB all gold, but i'm stuck with IA 3, this laguna seca chicane.

Ps: with the pad, nascar is more difficult but it's still makeable.

Hahaha, I think in some tests, the DS3 is better than the wheel. I had to do A3: the slalom with a DS3 as I keep over correcting with a steering wheel. But overall, the controller is way harder as you do not have the precise steering and pedal control the wheel provides. Good luck though. I'm sure it's do-able.

Watch the demo, follow the line and when your braking keep the accelerator on ie. one thumb 2 buttons at once... I tried for ages then did this and it worked!

I got all gold in the Super license. To me that was the easiet to gold.

Some tests in the other licenses are going to be hard though, so so far I´ve settled for silver in the other licenses.

Similarly, I have got golds in every test (and everything else) in the GT series using a controller. Also, I have been hearing that the GT5 tests are easier than previous series - but until I get back to the game in a few days and try them all I cannot confirm myself. So I would be inclined to agree with Fastphil.

On the settings during the tests, it varies. I start on standard and AT just to get a feel (and let's face it some are very short and quick to gold) and then set ABS, AT/MT according to how the test goes. ABS varies from car to car but note that even with a controller MT is faster than AT.

I was up most of the night performing highly complex mathematical equations in order to answer this very question, after much pondering I decided I couldn't be bothered with that and ate some cake instead.

For me however, the answer is most certainly no. I use DS3 & AT and even though I have golded all the B & A license's, and got a fair few golds on all the others there are still some that I know will be beyond my current skills. If I could afford a wheel I would maybe consider that but I can't, I am however content with at least not having any bronze, I would have to beat myself to death with my socks if a bronze medal was in my stats.

On another note, I believe the license tests in GT4 were trivial to get gold on compared to GT5 for the simple reason that I did.

I got all golds on B and A, with all assists off, bar ABS which was set to 1. Struggling with IC-3 though. Its going to be possible, just bloody hard to do!

Lol your first sentence.

I don't agree with the rest, licence is the place to learn et improve driving.
You can gold the test with a basic controler. All you have to do is to study the track and try try try and try again.

so far up to IC all gold using solely DS3 since I can't find my GTpro from 5 years+ ago... onwards to IB..

I've been working through the licences slowly. Golded B, A and IC with just a simple sixaxis. Some tests are a nightmare and you just have to keep trying over and over. IC10 seemed impossible at first but by the time I finally golded it (umpteen attempts) I knew where every car was going to be and what they were going to do.

B-5 gave me a lot of grief when I first came across it (GT3?, I forget). You will sometimes find a test like this (and there may be more) that seem to give you a lot more grief than they should. All I can advise is practise, patience and rest, ie sometimes leave it and come back later.

Then again there's a huge sense of satisfaction that comes with conquering a challenge with a lowly controller. Have you ever had that moment of sheer awe and revelation that comes with a super-fast run? I distinctly remember the license test with the V10 M5 on the Nordschleife through the fast section near the start. I kept smashing into the wall, then one time it all came together and the car just felt like it danced through the turns, and there was the Gold, and by a big margin too!

I don't move onto the next one until I gold the one I'm on, you get into a groove and if you do something else and come back you gotta work back into the usual pace again I feel, I've golded all the b license, beginner and intermediate karts (pretty easy) and beginner and first 2 intermediate NASCAR (haven't tried last 2 yet).
Hardest ones were b5 and b6, I was out on b5 by .003 for ages, that's annoying.
Also NASCAR intermediate is difficult, have to use very light touches, well really it's 'move the analogue stick a few millimeters at the corner, hold it there without moving it and hope it's exactly right to get around the corner perfectly'
