i think it is. its just a low scoring game and gives a bunch of wankers an excuse to trash everything if their team loses.

no flaming, just state an answer.

"its just a low scoring game and gives a bunch of wankers an excuse to trash everything if their team loses"

You're not supposed to actually encourage flaming.

but admit it, if the team loses everything gets smashed.

Not exactly, take this year's hosts for instance, the Japanese and Korean supporter show great sportsmanship!

For America it is but for Europe it's not. Why? cuz for european sports, its all they got.

You're the new most open-minded and best cultural evaluating member of the month!

It's really not the only thing we got, our motorsports and autosports are, for example, much better than America's.

Saying all we got is soccer is like saying all you have got is baseball. See?

its a simple question. U should just answer with a short statment, and leave it be. Juts because you don't agree with his opnion, doesn't mean it should be closed.

Okay, overreacted. But the "its just a low scoring game and gives a bunch of wankers an excuse to trash everything if their team loses"-part is pretty provocative don't you think?

there is always the wanker factor in every sport. someone always has to spoil it for everyone else. i just dont see the big hype about soccer. what IS the big hype?

So you don't like soccer, why make such a big deal then just don't watch it or start threads about it .

And as for the big hype  it is the world cup people are bound to talk about it, are they not ?

While I dont agree with Dudebustas theory on soccer, I've gotta admit it isn't for me.

I was raised on a steady diet of violent sports. Mainly hockey and football (americanized/bastardized) and I can quite happily admit that I don't like any sport where there is a) no violence or b) the violence that is in there is accidental. Because of this, I don't like baseball or basketball either.

<shrug>

Just my :2cents:

For you americans and canadians, it's not a big sport, because you've got a lot of sports in 1 season.
In europe, a soccer season goes on a whole year.
And soccer is the most important sport in Europe.

No its not overrated, although I dont like national leauges. International football is better (apart from dum refs and linesmen)

id like to thank you soccer lovers for not flaming . its not that i hate soccer i just cant see the reason that its bigger than the olympics.

i thought the english took their loss pretty well, big ben stands still

I think the fact that it's low scoring is at the same time its greatest strength and its greatess weakness.

Why weakness? It can be and quite regularly is intensely boring to watch. Okay, cricket can go for five days without a result, but at least you'll get some runs and wickets! Also, consistent build up by attackers for no result can be very frustrating.

Why strength? Well, I have a theory. Since it's low scoring, when teams play the better side is always teetering on the precipice of defeat - this year's World Cup being a great example. As such, the possibility for an upset is much higher than in higher scoring sports, where the better side is more likely to win. As such, a Senegal can beat a France at the international level of soccer, but not at rugby union.

Just a thought - I'm not overly fussed about soccer (can't see the point of a sport where you can't use your hands!).
