Is the wind sound realistic?

I love the wind sound.

Going down La Sarthe or the long straight on Nurburgring can get frightning. If only I could go that fast in life.

with a sorround system you the wind sound is coming from the satellites from the sides, so a part from the fidelity of the sound, you get a very realistic sound position (from my experience of Prologue)

you guys need to realise that a car that has been stripped of weight has had some or all sound proofing material removed. It may not even have glass windows! Wind noise is bad enough at high speed in a road goer but with no carpets and other absorbant interior bits or sound deadening material in a race car the wind would be very loud at high speed. Plus the fact that at high revs an engine is making high pitched sound that isnt as penetrative as bass tones.

Remember that also some of the cars... don't actually have a sealed cockpit... and the driver is exposed to the elements in the LMP cars... I'd imagine the wind noise would be fearful...

They should've made the camera get buffetted around like the drivers head would in the wind!! (Unless you've got a neck like Coulthard!!!)

So does GT4 take that into account?
DO the cars become louder with sound deadening removed? (Or is the 1st person view still from outside the car, bumper cam or similar?)

I hope they've allowed for a cars age, something like the E-type would suffer earlier from wind noise than its younger sister the XKR. The E-type would have quite noticable wind noise at 60 mph yet the XKR would have less than that at 100 mph.

I love the wind sound..

And the sense of speed has improved so much driving the Nurburgring in an extremely fast car is terrifying, I'll be breaking on the straights im so scared. :scared:

I've been over 150 (MPH) in a '92 C4 corvette, which is actually more aerodynamic (and has better high speed stability) than the C5. You've got to keep in mind too that the noise isn't completely from the wind. 4 big wheels turning that fast make a lot of noise, too. And that's a pretty big engine to drown out--not too many bigger than that (just the viper and the new 6.0 liter C6 vette jump to mind)! I think it's completely realistic--it gives me that same "OH S***--I'm going so fast I can't hear the engine!" feeling again. I think it's a great feel that really adds to the game.

Sorry if this duplicates my last post--I'm afraid the site might be having issues again. Anyway, I've been over 150mph in a '92 C4 vette--they're actually more stable (and better aerodynamically) than the C5 vette at high speeds. And that's a lot of engine to drown out--only the viper and new 6 liter C6 vette come to mind as having bigger engines. You have to remember too that 4 huge tires make a lot of noise going that fast, too--it's not just the wind making the noise. And you start wondering where the engine went--all you can hear is WHOOSHing. The game gives me the same "Oh S***!--I'm going so fast I can't hear the engine anymore!" feeling I used to get going fast. I think it adds tremendously to the game. Good job PD!

Of course, speaking of the C6 vette... BAD JOB PD!

I hope they've allowed for older designed cars such as the E-type who's wind noise will be louder at 60 mph than its newer sister the XKR will be at 100mph.

Yes, Yes, so do we...............jeezz........J/k :)

Lol yes the wind sound is realistic. When I get up around 140 you cant hear it that much, but at around 180 you can definantly hear it. Corvettes need just a little more aerodynamics with the window seals and cracks, otherwise you probably wouldn't hear it so much. I know that in a ferrari the sound is less at 150 than the corvette because the trimming and lines are alittle more refined into the body. All in all I love the added sound effect. Plus the fact that at 200mph+ in the game it's so realistic how one bump can send those cars flying. Well cool for me, frustrating for everyone else I play that dont grasp the fact that this game isnt a Need For Speed crappy physics engine.

I think they did acurate to life when i drive my STI at 150 I get about the same noise level in RL as in the game. Must have been dificult to record that sound though.

Apparently you can get rid of the noise by using "Our Sponors"
at the bottom of this tread! LOL
