that alone makes it pretty much impossible to have it mimic a real life car and how it acts.
it feels "good" for arcade racer, but it stops there
My car sounded positively asleep when revved in neutral, but in any gear it would roar because I had one of those chavboy halfords air filters, all show and no go.

I'm not sure it's unplayable, what cars were you using?
For those of you complaining about the lack of bass, have you tried switching to "Large Theater" mode in the *game audio settings* ? When you do this, it removes the dynamic range compression and allows you to turn up the volume and get the full audio experience.
