Google has brought up nothing useful for this so I thought I'd ask here if anyone has had the same issue. I'm trying to burn an audio CD using iTunes and even though the music is there in the right format with the correct blank CD it simply won't do it!

It checks the playlist, then just does nothing and I have to Force Quit it. I've tried numerous discs and other music but none of it works. I've burned a disc using other software and that worked (Although in the wrong order, so useless), so it's definitely not my drive.

Any ideas, anyone? I'm running the latest version of iTunes on MacOS Snow Leopard.

I could have been a jerk and said: "Try handing it a lighter"....

but the force quitting part leaves me asking: "iTunes freezes after inserting a disc?"

You could try and re-install itunes, that might fix whatever bug is causing it to hang. Maybe the other software is running something in the background causing a conflict when itunes tries to access the drive.

I've tried re-installing Robin, I removed the old version I had and then installed the new one. I even re-imported my library which took ages, but still nothing. :( It's been doing it ever since before I got the other software so it can't be a conflict.

Did you buy the music from itunes or somewhere else? I havent tried burning songs from itunes, but maybe they only allow song that you bought from them to be burned?

Nope, you can pretty much burn anything. Even protected files (so long as you are the owner of the song) can be burned - you can legally make several copies of music you've bought. I made a couple of CDs over random stuff just last week using the current version of iTunes (running Windows) with a mixture of purchased and older mp3s I made from my own CDs...

What format are the files in, Moglet? You can use iTunes to convert other formats to mp3, so you could try that if you haven't done so already.

The files are DRM free as I imported them from a CD that I bought. I'm just trying to make a copy for in my car, they are all mp3 files as I have iTunes set to import as mp3 from CD.

As a side note, hasn't music bought from iTunes been DRM free for a while now?

Have you gone into iTunes' settings to makes sure its selecting the right burner drive? (maybe its set to something else even if its the only one).

Yeah, I cross checked it with System Profiler and it's the right one. It initializes the disc and checks the playlist but then fails to do anything at all! Could it be related to my library being on an external drive? The library location is set correctly.

It might be because its on an external drive, try copying the songs you want to burn on to the main drive and see if it works from there.

I'll give that a go when I get home, you could be on to a winner there!

Okay, so nothing at all has fixed this. Not only that but it is now refusing to copy files to any USB device, it just transfers a single file partially and then stops without a reason.

I swear to god Apple get worse every day. I'm debating switching back to Windows for my next computer so I don't have to put up with this poor excuse for software. Their systems are also getting worse as they become more popular.

Sounds like you could be due for a re-install of SL there mate if it's being funny like that. OS's can be funny like that, i do mine every year or so to keep my Mac's running smooth and fast, Time Machine makes this well easy :)

On the poor excuse for software side, iTunes is pretty crap and always has been, and IMHO, it's a crime, and it's just a shambles on my windows pc. Can't say i agree with the systems getting worse either, my refurb MBP hasn't missed a beat, running beautifully, love it :)

Hope you get your problem sorted mate, let us know if you've considered this

Luke
