Here we go ... the wait is over. I hope y'all enjoy my first couple of vids:

First jonboy, your such a Trekkie using a StarTrek TNG sound on your phone. Lol

Thanks for the video. I think my Formula Force GP wheel calibrates faster then the driving force pro there. Anyhow the wheel looks nice but indeed a bit hard to mount to the table clamp or your rig I think. Since the holes on the angle bracket are pretty far back.

I hope to see more videos soon. I am sure people would like to see what they'd be able to adjust in the wheel menu.

Loving auto-clutch - nice new feature, have been wondering how people have been acheiving some of those starts, didn't realise the manual clutch was so much quicker, let alone pedal vs button!

Thanks for the early look at the wheel.

You say the CSRE is more "Rumbly" compared to the GT2?

The "Rumble" motors is an area with the wheel I have found very little difference and still a bit weak compared to what Id like.

To me more strength in the effects wouldnt go a miss, Id of liked 4 rumble motors tbh. Certainly from what the beta wheel offered the effects are similar however maybe the new firmware helps. I do not believe new rumble motors have been used so would expect the CSR and CSRE to have quite similar "Rumble" to the previous wheels.

However maybe more testing from you will allow you to give more input on this and your own findings.

In GT5 some kerbs just do not seem to output rumble effects at all so different wheels will make no difference.

Nice reviews Jonboy.

The ACL issue is on Forza's end.

Driving manual without clutch is allways slower in Forza. Not sure it's an exploit as such found by pad users. It was designed to reward users to use clutch, even on a pad. I think it's around .1 of a second per shift. Over 100 shifts is 10 seconds quite a lot TBH.

Driving with manual/clutch with both a pad and pedals should in theory be a lot similar.

Where ACL shines for me, and I suspect why Thomas included it, is for immersion.

Driving a paddle shift car, 458 for example, having to press a clutch and use paddles is counter intuitive.
In an online lobby you would have no choice because of the .1 shift advantage.
Using ACL allows the car to be driven how it should in real life and not get penalised by Forza's reward system. Get your credits bonus too.

Nice feature to have. I only mentioned because your video could have lead others to believe that using a pedal is a disadvantage. It's not. You still get your.1 boost.

maybe the new firmware helps.

That could be a part of it, I know the latest FW was designed to improve rumble effect on PS3. I tried out GT5 last night for a short time to check it out.

One of my big problems with GT5 was the lack of rumble, for instance on High Speed Ring I never got any kind of rumble going over the cobble stones with PWTS or GT2 yet with Logitech DFP there was loads of rumble (A bit too much)

Last night with the CSR-Elite it was definately there on all cobble stones!

Could you post up your wheel settings for Forza please Jon?

Also Amar mentioned FW 715 allows for enhanced control of spring and damper settings.
I see you are using that firmware. Unfortunately Amar didn't go into detail with that comment. Could you?

Argh edited my own quoted comment lol. Hope you understand my gibberish.

LOL Yeah gotcha.

Still messing around to find the perfect setting at the mo, but right now I have it

SEN ... 900
FF .......80
Sho.....100
Dri.......OFF
ABS......75
Lin.......000
Dea......000
Spr.........0
Dpr.........0
ACL.......ON

On F1 2011 (X360) I change

FF....70
Sho..80
Spr...-2
Dpr...-2
ACL..OFF

I do have the wheel on 900 but then counteract that with the game settings and set the steering sturations to 75%

Not tried F1 2011 on PS3 yet, I have been sent a copy by Codies to try out for them but time is a little precious right now.

GT5

SEN ... 360
FF .......70
Sho.....100
Dri.......OFF
ABS......75
Lin.......000
Dea......010
Spr.........0
Dpr.........0
ACL.......ON

Hope that helps ya. ;)

Thanks Jon. Myself only on a lowly gt2 I find the linearity to be messed up post patch on Forza4. Not totally screwed but a little nervous around the top dead centre of the wheel. Very twitchy.

I found adding linearity 20 makes the wheel feel very smooth around that area.

Someone posted that on an elite it's not an issue with the new wheel and that linearity 0 was fine. The same as linearity 20 on GT2.

I find that strange when it's a software not hard ware issue.

Next time your on Forza try adding 20 linearity to the wheel and see if it throws out the linearity mate. Or maybe makes it better.

Appreciate your time.

One suggestion I'd make is to update the OP with all your reviews as they are made. Make it much easier for users entering the thread looking for your reviews

Yep no worries. I just recieved another email from Thomas today with FW 717 so I'll give that a whirl first next time I get the chance

Good suggestion I'll do that 👍

What are the changes to the firmware?

I've not installed it yet but from the info Thomas has sent out it's "Full elimination of the center spring dead zone" and "Perfectly linear center spring"

I've not really had an issue with either since FW715, and I think it's been an issue raised more by iRacing players but from what I've been told it greatly improves the FFB even more than the outstanding level it's already at.

I've got a busy day of revision today so I'm hoping to get a chance to install, try out and video my findings in an update video tonight.

Would be lovely, but studies are more important. So only if there is time.
It's sounds like a good update. Removing any deadzones and improving linearity plus better FFB. What more can we wish for? I reckon this will trickle down to the CSW. I am getting afraid of testing the CSW though since I am happy with my T500, if the wheel gets any better I will feel like I spend too much money on Thrustmaster gear. lol

Yeah this is a big week for me, got an exam on Thursday for the end of my first year at Uni (at 37 I'm too old for this student lark LOL)

But of course we all need a bit of downtime, so I'll do what I can...once Thursday's out of the way I'll be able to give the wheel more time

Sounds like you got lost or something, 37 and returning to uni. I guess it's hard to get a job anywhere in the world these days. Anyhow, the best for Thursday. I hope all goes well. ;)

Returning? This is my first time LOL

Nah I'm not having difficulties getting a job, this is an in house degree course to further my career.

Thanks for the best wishes, I'll try to muddle through ;)

Ah, one of those. Had to do that too once. Had to go to the states for it even. Lol

I agree. This is the greatest bonus for me. A HUGE pro GT5 had over Forza is that you can use the clutch and shifter or paddles without changing a thing. I understand because of the damage system this isn't possible in Forza. It is nice to have the wheel do it so that you can switch back and forth without having to remember to turn clutch on and off before every race depending on the car you are driving.

Just for you guys...and because I'm dedicated to the cause, I've taken a break from the studies and made another lil vid showing ACL in action and a comparison of it with different class cars, showing upshifts and downshifts as well as a little lap comparison.

It's uploading as I type so stay tuned for it in the next hour or so.

Cheers

JB

I'm glad I have a better upload with my internet connection. An hour for a 10 minute video... painful to me since I know better.

I will keep watch over your channel and hit the refresh button each time. :P

Yep sorry, it's taking a while. It's a 14 minute vid and the upload is still going on, and now the kids are home from School my daughter's got to do her homework on the internet, so she's slowed things down considerably.

You may need to wait another hour ... sorry, can't help it.
