Joseph Kosinski in Talks to Direct ‘Gran Turismo’ Video Game Adaptation

I wont hope a movie that has Kaz as a star instead of the route of GT Academy winners from qualification to professional racing.

In other words, i wont hope a United Passions like movie.
You mean like...

As a car movie, it fails a little, as it strays too much into plot territory instead of racing territory.

So you mean that it's exactly what you asked for?

Can anyone even recommend a fantastic racing-based movie that isn't a documentary of sorts? As in, actual plot besides just racing the cars, but that doesn't stray into heist territory.

You wanted something that had plot besides just racing the cars, and now you're pooh-poohing the suggestion because it does exactly that?

Come on, man.

No, it's precisely the opposite. A car movie is a movie where the cars are the main attraction.

No, what I said is that a movie that focuses solely on racing is likely to suck, and it needs a story that involves more than just cars, but Cars, alongside heist films, for example, are perfect examples of movies where cars play a part, but that doesn't make them car movies.

Yes, Cars' characters are vehicles. Yes, there is racing on the film. But I'd hardly call Cars a movie that focuses on racing more than anything.

And that's the thing. I would love someone to make a real car movie that doesn't suck, a movie where cars are 70% of the focus.

I can't keep up with how fast you're moving your goalposts.

You'll never find anything, because you'll always find some reason to dismiss whatever anyone suggests.

...Speedway, (1929). IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0020439/?ref_=fn_al_tt_3

Le Mans (1971) IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067334/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Days of Thunder (1990) IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099371/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Start with with these three classics.

A honorable mention goes to:

Speedway (1968 version), starring the King himself, Elvis. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063634/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
You forgot the best of the bunch (IMO). Best racing footage as well, also IMO.

Grand Prix (1966) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060472/

It also features, in small parts or as drivers, the winners of at least half a dozen F1 World Championships.

...I chose Le Mans, because Steve McQueen. Grand Prix is slightly better film overall but hey, what can I say, Steve's the king of cool. :sly:

I'm sorry you dislike my opinion so much. I clearly stated in my posts that a pure racing movie would likely suck (unless it is a documentary), and any movie where cars aren't the main focus stops being a car movie altogether, like heist films and the like where cars are added content and not the focus.

If you can't understand that, don't blame it on me.

JKgo posted Days of Thunder, an example of a movie that fits the bill, but kind of sucks (in my opinion), even though it is enjoyable.

EDIT: Sorry if I sound rude, but this was never a game of "prove me wrong".

I quite liked Oblivion and Tron Legacy from a directorial point of view... but the films the writers have done, I thought were rubbish.

Still can't imagine any way it could be worse than Need for Speed, so that's all good at least.

Well hey, what do you know. There's a documentary of Le Mans the movie coming.

I've heard GT:The movie will chronicle the rise of a gamer/racer in GT Academy program. Hopefully it will do well.

Name 1 movie that's been based on a game that's been good.

Overall, I feel the first Mortal Kombat Movie was the most decent. Everything else after it was...well..meh.

Still think the worst one by far is Tekken. Corny overused love story, horrible location that was no related in any way to the game and ALL the characters (Especially my favorite one ) that didn't act anything like the ones in the game. Probably the worst thing since Super Mario Bros. (and that was pretty bad).

Agent 47 looks great too.

...I haven't seen it yet - the trailer put me off. :yuck:
I feel it gave away too much spoilers.

I'll catch it once it's on Bluray. And probably end up lamenting the fact that a talented actor like Quinto languishing in a movie like this for a quick buck...

Ahem. I can think of even worse one than that. :mischievous:

Completely forgot about that. Not only is not at all continue from the previous piece of crap despite being a sequel, it involves even less recognizable characters. Once again, not even Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa can save this crapsterpiece

Edit: Turns out, it was a prequel. Not that it really matters since it still sucks.

...Well, it's tumbling around in the Development Hell, so there you go. In the IMDB page, it couldn't be any emptier than even if you tried. There's some mention of the film being "in development" but hah!! Yeah, right.
