At least one girl is seeing sense then.

Also that parody a few posts up had me in fits

To be honest in a way I'm glad this guy is distracting all the sheep away from the quality music and leaving it to us guys

'Can we sniff it' is the one that brings it home. If there was another race on Earth that understood what was going on there I'd be ashamed

Well I can't say that I downright hate him or anything. I guess I more hate what he represents. The whole generic teenage pop/RnB industry annoys me. Never been a fan of the catchy, generic songs that are quickly forgotten in a couple months when the new batch of catchy, generic songs come out. Props to him on his success though. Might just be another generic artist who slowly fades away but he's young so he might stay popular a bit longer. If he stays popular then in a couple years we'll probably see his, "edgy, bad boy side" when he releases a rap album or something. :yuck:
Totally agree.
I've not listened to his music, luckily.

And I don't even see what's so special about his looks either, he's not that good looking. What ever, I never understand girls these days.

Not only that, he isn't a really good singer either, I've heard kids in his age who were better.

I don't know, I can't "hate" him, but the industry is pissing me off.
I'm a music junky, my dad is a drummer in his own band, so it annoys me a lot when I see that people really buy stuff like that, because it means less sales for more sophisticated music.

EDIT: Btw. Bieber=Beaver in German.

I blame all you adults for this, for not teaching children real music. So, now kids want to sniff hats of their favourite look-and-sound-like-a-girl pop stars. When I have kids, hell yeah i'm going to snap them out of those things if they end up liking it.

Girls get sold the goddamn image not the music. He looks good so they buy it. Simple as that. It's not our fault if they behave like a pack of animals whenever he's seen. I am honestly ashamed to share a race with some of them.

Well, now I could ask you what music you listen to and then argue with you about the sophistication from it.

I cannot wait until his voice cracks. That will be the day where I will be happier than a smiley face. Its also a disgrace that his hometown is 2 hours away from here.

What exactly do you listen to? No offense, but people your age have awful taste in music as well.

Well, let's see, I'm a year or two older than him, and I listen to classic rock, modern rock, light dusting of techno, and a delicious salad or proper classical music.

So. Awful taste?

As long as its not rap. I'm tired of gangsters rap about their past experiences with prostitutes and drugs and guns. I love punk rock, ESPECIALLY Rise Against.

Let's try to make more sense here than a "light dusting" or "delicious salad". And btw, most modern rock does suck as well.

Musical taste is completely subjective, that's why it's called taste.

Sorry to rain on your parade raining.

Modern rock is no better than modern rap. Songs don't have a meaning behind them & half of them seemed to be geared towards emo's.

Sorry my opinion bothers you.

I'm just saying, there are better trees to bark up than criticizing somebody for the type of music that they like.

Your opinion doesn't bother me at all, you can like whatever music you want. Just like the 14 year olds who you love to act so condescending towards really can't be right or wrong by saying they have a good taste in music because...it's completely subjective.

Well the thing is that a lot of people can relate more to being around a bad environmental situation where there is nothing but guns, drugs and prostitutes. Compared to back in the day though, most rap is absolute 🤬 garbage (hello Soulja Boy!) but others can be considered absolute lyrical geniuses (like Eminem) with the content of their lyrics and how they portray their story across.

Look at back in the day with the groups like N.W.A., Ice-T, Onyx, M.O.P., a lot of them talked about what their lives were like (raised in South Central LA or Brooklyn, NY and being surrounded by pimps, ho's, guns, drugs, gang violence, corrupt police), a lot of us can relate to that especially if we have been brought up in similar situations (different cities have different things going on, but the common message is portrayed across just the same) and lived that type of lifestyle.

It's just like C&W, they talk about pick-up trucks, working on the land, cowboy hats, big boots, etc. because that's the life they live and why shouldn't they sing about it?? Because it's not the message you want to hear?? Please.

Forcing ones musical taste on someone is pathetic... It's like saying, no Jimmy you can't where that purple shirt you have to where this blue one.

When I have kids they can listen to whatever the hell they want to.

And what the hell is all this bickering about each others taste... I'm sick of this attitude people get thinking just because they listen to older stuff it makes them more sophisticated.

Music taste is something you can't help choose.. That's what is so amazing about music, it's all about expressing what you feel in your body and it also has the reverse effect on you. Let people do what the hell they want... if they love watered down, catchy, corporate produced pop/RnB/Hip-Hop whatever... So be it.

The thing that bugs me is people that say they love everything... I don't believe in that but whatever.. I'm not stopping anyone.

I take that as a shot towards me considering I brought up the older music thing. Now, I take offence that you are putting words in my mouth. Who said that it makes me "more sophisticated"?? Not me. I said that the MUSIC is more sophisticated, because it is. Apart from a select few (Mos Def, Eminem, Jay-Z to name a few), there isn't much to offer in the hard rap industry, and others like KRS-ONE have been around since the '80s and are still killing it on stage which shows their longevity in the scene and abilities on the mic.

I am pointing out facts with those groups I mentioned. They talked about their lifestyles, pointing out their gains, losses, wishes and consequences from those lifestyles. Compare the lyrics from "Gotta Lotta love" from Ice-T to "Crank That" by Soulja Boy.

See how Ice-T is telling a proper story about his life and the things that go on in his mind about his hopes and wishes of an LA gang truce (which was a big thing in the early '90s considering how many people were being killed on LA's streets at that time) and the lyrical content provides whoever listens to it a vivid picture of what's going on. Tell me what story and mental images Soulja Boy is telling us apart from "supermanning dat ho" and "YOOOOOOOOU"??? Nothing.

So don't misconstrue what I'm saying, thankyou.

Everyone is entitled to their musical taste but i'll say again that it is not Bieber's music that girls are paying for it's his image.

I'd like to think that the decision as to what is 'good' music and what is 'bad' is not, in fact, absolutely subjective. Categorising music by objective analysis is somewhat possible if we pay regard to the level of skill displayed by the individual performer, the collective skill as a band (if applicable), as well as creativity.

How to exactly define those levels, so as to place an artist above another, however, is a problem. Some artists may be brilliantly talented and creative at what they do, but their music is an aural disgrace. On the other hand, your average grossly overpaid, auto-tune-abusing, hip-hop 'artist' usually lacks any musical skill, whatsoever, but the backing track (that their babble is laid on top of) often is 'catchy'.

I think this phenomena can explain, at least partially, why jocular artists such as Akon or Black Eyed Peas have got where they are...

PS: And talent can be found anywhere, even in the genres many people hate with a passion. Take rap and Eminem for example: the man is freakishly talented. One look at songs like 'Lose Yourself' and 'When I'm Gone'. I'll admit, however, that his most recent songs haven't been the best displays of it...

Hehe, they're gettin' ripped off. I just go on Google images if I want his image...

. And I agree with Mafs. All he's singin' is Baby Baby Baby Ohhh.. and some other stuff. My favourite part of the song is the rapping. Two three reasons: It's not about "hoes" and "supermanning" etc, etc. It actually has meaning compared to "baby, baby". Third.. Justin Beaver Bebo BB Gun Beiber isn't singing. Something like Say it Ain't So - Weezer actually has meaning.. wiki it.

 What do you consider as "modern rock"?
I agree about pop-rock, but there's more than just the usual chart stuff.
And good music is more than just the meaning behind the lyrics.
