As I said, I was just making you aware of how your attitude in these posts comes off. I'm the kind of guy who is going to speak up to somebody when I see them acting in such a manner. You're free to post with whatever attitude you want, just as I'm free to call you out on it.

I would just stop... You're not going to break the wall of ignorance.

Modern music is just as amazing as it was thirty years ago. New things are coming out all the time. Dezperadoz, Abney Park, Ankla, Black Pyramid, Baroness, Clutch, Sybreed, Flaw, Voltaire, Tiamat, Pelican, Lucyfire...*yawn* I can do this all day... All modern rock bands from all different kind of sub genres. All amazing and have done lots of stuff that is new and creative.. (I HATE that word for music but its true.) And the whole "just two words put together" thing is the dumbest argument one can possibly make... Specially when you mentioned a band called THE EAGLES.. Oh my amazingly thoughtful.. I bet they had take a real crazy drug trip and travel throughout the universe to come up with some crazy diverse name like that. Oh and then release something so freaking boring to listen to that it would put me to sleep in a mosh-pit.

You're going to make fun The Eagles after naming a band called Flaw, or Pelican?

Ahh, teenagers....

Prosthetic, you know why they got called names like "The Comets", "The Monkees", "The Eagles", "The Beatles", "The Rolling Stones"?? Because back when those groups formed, the Rock & Roll recording industry was still technically in it's infancy.....so it was easy for them to form their band with a name as such.

Compared to these days when you have names of bands like "Panic At The Disco", "At The Drive-In", "30 Seconds To Mars" which sound 🤬 ridiculous but they needed to be called that, sometimes due to copyright issues with another band already claiming the band name. One famous example of copyrighting a band's name from a few years back was "Bush", headed by Gavin Rosdale. Around the US, UK, Australia and most other countries worldwide they were known as just "Bush" but in Canada they were known as "Bush X" because a band in Canada had already claimed the "Bush" name so the record company had to change their name to prevent them being sued in Canada.

Another is Silverchair, who were originally called "Innocent Criminals" but that name was also taken, so they became Silverchair. :)

Never said a name determines whether a band is good or not, but nice try. However, seems be a funny coincidence that their music usually isn't any better than their choice of name.

And this is now old, so someone post up the video of Justin screaming like a girl when he went bungee jumping, so I can stop reading your posts. Or better yet, I'll do it myself.

Wait, did Prosthetic just insult The Eagles? Like, really?

Most of the stuff coming out these days ISN'T creative that's the point. We've got bands doing what other bands did less than 3 or 4 years ago. How many songs are there of the magnitude of Bohemian Rhapsody, Stairway To Heaven, All Along The Watchtower, Sweet Child Of Mine, etc. 30 Seconds To Mars, Panic At The Disco (possibly the worst band and band name of all time) Lostprophets,(the best of the bunch by quite some distance) Youmeatsix etc. are just TOO similar. Justin Bieber, we've seen his drivel a thousand times before.

That's why I'm a huge fan of Gorillaz, theyre not to everyone's taste but they chop and change through genres, pushing the boundaries of what has been done. Even Lady Gaga, although very good, is still similar to those before her. There isn't alot wrong with writing a song similar to another before it, but it shows that an individual influence has had too much, well, influence on the writer. It's been done before and we need to continue innovating music like some acts are. The Rolling Stones and the Beatles didn't become world famous for doing something that had been done before. Sure image is important but in Bieber's case compared to other vocalists its 100% image 0% talent. Most acts would get nowhere without some degree of image, unfortunately the majority of artists today rely too much on the image and too little on the song writing and playing ability.

Rage Against The Machine wrote a catchy song, ok but they wrote it and meant every word, it was directed at something that they felt. The public are becoming fed up of stuff like X-Factor every year and some one hit wonder getting the #1 spot because people know him from TV. If they actually stepped back some would see that the winner wasn't famous before because he wasn't good enough to get a record deal. Therefore proving they are slightly better than some others who also aren't good enough means they are awarded one. To me it seems like the public are just force fed the same old stuff and no one seems to care. There's a video on YT of a small girl crying because she loves Bieber and can't explain why, I bet the suits at Bieber's label loved it, it's exactly what they're going for.

We have enough music nowadays which is just as good as all the old stuff you listed, or even better (from a musical standpoint). The problem is you have to look out for it, it is not popular, nor will you ever hear it in the radio, because the mainstream is flooded with crap.

I can only use the example Porcupine Tree, their music is so complex, that you can listen to an album from them 10 times and you will still notice things you haven't before. Of course they also have some more simple tracks, but it's like that in every band.

P.S.: Gorillaz ftw! And I say that while really disliking modern rap.

With names like those, probably not. I've learned new bands pick 2 random words & throw it together. Just like their music.

That is a sly way of saying "They Suck." Unless you want to prove that without pointing to crap played on MTV which is what you are doing. You don't even seem to go look for modern music but dismiss it as crap anyways.

Wait, did Prosthetic just insult The Eagles? Like, really?

Like OMG!! I totally did! Hell! I'll say it again.. I think The Eagles SUCK! Like OMG!! I can't believe he did that!!

By the way Alex. Your whole point became moot when you mentioned Lady Gaga.

But I'll be the kind one and address the reason why no songs get that big anymore. It's because everyone is fixated on MTV and the radio and those type of bands just don't get big anymore. If you guys want to find music that is just as amazing as it was in the 80's (I personally think the 90's is the best decade for music ever) then you need to stop being so close minded on whats out there.

I named some pretty amazing bands that don't get much air time on the radio (if any at all) no time on MTV or any commercial (Except for one Clutch song is some way related to Live for Dead 2, except that was a cover of a past blue song.)

I feel sorry for you guys for living the shallow music lives that you do. May the music gods bless your soul with good music.

I agree with pretty much everything you say except for the fact that the Gorillaz is good.. Bleh I used to listen to them.... But I also used to listen to Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit.

This is kind of what I was talking about. Saying one band or something sucks, not because it's actually badly done music, but because they don't like them.

If you look at it from an opinionated point of view, then yeah, you will argue forever.

Yep, The Eagles don't suck, I also find their music extremely boring, but they are all very talented musicians.

EDIT: Same with the Gorillaz, if you don't like that project, okay, but the music is still good.

I did my best to put it across neutrally, but hey, however you wanna play it.

I like the Gorillaz just for the creative genius behind the songs & their "mascots", but I can't get into the new album. I'm also disappointed to hear it may be their last. 👎

Enough of the bickering, guys.

Back to the topic at hand, I thought this was hilarious:

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! AWESOME!! :D:D:D:tup:👍👍 Props to the interviewer for owning Justin Baby I mean Beiber. He won't be forgetting what L&P is for a while now.

For the rest of the world, L&P (Lemon & Paeroa) is a soft drink that's very popular in NZ, and can be obtained here in Australia too....sort of like a weird version of Lift.

Some info on it from wikipedia for you guys.

That's how annoying and overrated he is, we're all trying our hardest to make sure he never comes back to NZ

They said this also after Demon Days. ;)
Actually, Albarn said they have around 80 songs and it would be enough for a Plastic Beach pt. 2 & 3. It just takes a lot of time to produce the stuff.

Yes, they are, from a musical standpoint.
Not everything is a matter of taste, recycled synth samples mixed with dumb lyrics and drum machines have nothing to do with real music. People don't buy Justin Biebers CDs because the music is good.

Dumb in whose opinion? While I do agree with you, why is our opinion worth more than the screaming Justin Bieber teenage girl fans?

I'd prefer it if they were just new albums, & have near-no relation to Plastic Beach. Album was kind of a let down for me, personally. :indiff:

Had a quick read of that, and my favourite bit is this:
Stuff.co.nz
Bieber, 16, was being gifted a parcel of New Zealand-themed presents - including a jar of Vegemite, a pair of gumboots and a bag of Pineapple Lumps - when he reached for the bottle of L&P.

Thing is, though. New Zealand has something call "Marmite"... better than iSnack 2.0. Vegimite is completely Australian and, it's less sweet than Marmite...

Not everything has to do with an opinion, you can actually analyze music (to a certain degree) and see how sophisticated it is and you can also see how good the musicians are. ;)

"German? What is that?"

Smiley-Facepalm.gif

Fixed :D.

Why is it that all the funny stuff about Justin Beiber comes from New Zealand?
We're a rebellious bunch. Stealing hats, shagging sheep, giving defenceless singers just a widdle geogwaphy qwestion that they can't handle. You gotta feel sorry for him - not

Off-topic: I do believe this is starting to become a rant thread now... just a hunch...

I can't believe you got away with saying that.

I can't stand Justin Bieber. He sucks big time. He has ruined hip-hop. I actually said that on YouTube, and then some 10-year-old girl gave me a lot of crap for speaking my mind.

Justin Bieber does not have anything to do with hip-hop, if anything I would say he's R&B...small white boy R&B, but still R&B.

And if anything, we could do with less R&B in the world. Mainstream seems to have just become an alternative word for R&B now. We need more Rock back in the mainstream!
