I hate that people constantly say you can only use 20% of the cars in GT because it's simply not true at all, that's your choice to be 'car elitist' and only use those cars not a game fault, I use the standard cars and enjoy them, sure I would like a cockpit view but I'm not going to be an immature 🤬 and say I wont use them because they don't have cockpit view when nearly all my favourite cars are standards.

QFT

The MINOLTA is an amazing car, and its only a standard :) (As is the FGT, and i dont hear people bitching about that) But i race with roof cam, so i dont care for cockpit cam

Yeah I'm getting that way with my premiums too. I'm choosing hood/roof cam over cockpit simply because I like seeing more of the road. And the Minolta is a stunning piece of work.

Well, I think it's encouraging. It seems they are keen to support GT5 well. Who knows what we'll get. Read KY's words carefully though: He says "the possibility is there", and "we would like to, of course!". This is the way he always talks about the future. I can see no solid suggestions of what is actually planned to happen.

Typical KY statements, dancing around the subject. I can honestly say I had 100% faith leading up to GT5 and believed all the "perfectionist" hype but I'm not sure I can believe it any more.

It's a bit like the boy who cried wolf. When you wait 6 years only to be disappointed, it's pretty hard to get excited by more "maybes" and "possibilities".

If it can't be done just say so. I (like many, i'm sure) held off buying Forza for 6 years in anticipation for GT5, now the only thanks we get for our support is more empty promises?

Excuse me for saying this but that was just dumb. So while others were having the times of their lives you actually NOT bought a game in anticipation for another game years down the line? This is the mentality that I just can't comprehend for the life of me. I have no problem buying ANY racing game that looks like it may have some good qualities. Forza 4 is coming out some time next year and I've been having a blast with Forza 3, does that mean I should not have picked up GT5? I don't get it. Not only did I get GT5 but I got it about a week early and had some fun with it. When FM4 gets ready to roll around I'll be picking that up too and be trying to get it early if I can, and if GT6 is supposed to be right around the corner from that I'll snatch that.

Well try and comprehend this:

1: Some people dont' have a 360 so buying Forza involves a lot more than just buying a game.

2: For some people $60 is a pretty solid chunk of change and when given an apaprent choice between two, will have to make a decision where they put their money.

3: No one thought they would be waiting 6 years when they started waiting. There was supposed to be a launch GT title, then it was always a year or two away. I doubt I would pass up 3 iterations of a game for 6 years while waiting for another either, but it's entirely different if you are strung along just a little longer and a little longer and a little longer...

What I don't comprehend is people who don't comprehend that not everyone has the same lifestyle and situation they do...

I, fortunately, have enough cash that I can afford almost any game I want within reason and even then I still don't buy a lot of games... I didn't buy COD Bops because I already had BFBC2 and MW2. Was I stupid for not buying it despite the fact I would have enjoyed Bops AND I culd have afforded it? I think hardly...

Thankyou.

To clarify, no I do not own an Xbox 360, and yes I was anticipating a GT5 release 3 years ago.

I own most PC sims but was definitely not prepared to fork out for an Xbox knowing that GT5 was on the way.

And for the record I have played Forza 3 and loved it

Ok let's break it down.

Well try and comprehend this:

1: Some people dont' have a 360 so buying Forza involves a lot more than just buying a game.

The OP says he held off buying Forza. The implication there was he had a 360 or means to one and simply held off buying the game. Had he said he held off buying a Forza AND a 360 there would have been no argument from me.

2: For some people $60 is a pretty solid chunk of change and when given an apaprent choice between two, will have to make a decision where they put their money.

Again the implication here is he held off to play GT5 not that times were tight and he couldn't get it. "Held off" and "Unable to" or "It was a tough choice but I HAD to hold off" etc. would have clearly implied the inability to do a certain act the choice not to do said act.

Now this is a legit point however , for whatever reason, once two years had passed and nothing I had a feeling we wouldn't see anything for a LONG time. So that would be up to one's perception of how things are going whether to wait around or not. I chose not to.

Now as far as 60 bucks look let's be real. If 60 bucks in 6 years is that hard to come buy then I suggest someone in that dire straights won't have time to get on a message board and infact shouldn't have gaming on the mind. That person has a lot more important things going on in life they need to attend to. 60 bucks every week, month or so , ok I can go along with that, but 60 bucks in a span of years?

Ok let's break it down.

The OP says he held off buying Forza. The implication there was he had a 360 or means to one and simply held off buying the game. Had he said he held off buying a Forza AND a 360 there would have been no argument from me.

The implication was that the expectation of GT5 was enough to prevent him from taking whatever steps were involved in buying one of the Forza's that have come out in the last 3 years.

Again the implication here is he held off to play GT5 not that times were tight and he couldn't get it. "Held off" and "Unable to" or "It was a tough choice but I HAD to hold off" etc. would have clearly implied the inability to do a certain act the choice not to do said act.

What part of making a decision where to put their money is not covered by "held off"? As was clearly demonstrated by the example I gave of myself, I can easily afford to get both blops and BFBC2, however I held off on getting one over the other because I don't feel it's worthwhile to drop an addition $60 on a game similar to one I already have that I feel is as good or better anyway.

I am not unable to, I am not in hard times, I have simply heald off becuase $60 is not a decision I take lightly under any circumstances.

Now this is a legit point however , for whatever reason, once two years had passed and nothing I had a feeling we wouldn't see anything for a LONG time. So that would be up to one's perception of how things are going whether to wait around or not. I chose not to.

That was your feeling. It wasn't the only insider who could shed light on the situation (PD) wasn't really forthcomming with helpful info on that front either.

When the carrot gets moved furhter away, there is no certain way to know whether and how far it will be moved again.

Again, as I said, he didn't know it would be 6 years. If he is psychic or owns a time machine, well then I agree, he was a fool for making his decision. Since I doubt either of those, you can't argue the waiting 6 years point since most likely it was just a repeated case of "waiting a little while more" which we have all done plenty of times in our live.

And again take it out of the abstract and look at the reality of it:

There is sometehing coming soon which you have every reason to believe is going to be awesome and better than this other something else on the shelf right now. You decide why waste money on this thing when in a little while I will buy this other better thing. You go one with life and other things to bide your time until the better thing comes along.

A delay.

Ack, that sucks, well still that better thing is going to be out soon, why buy this other thing when I will be getting the better one soon? I would feel a real fool if my impatience got the better of me and made me waste $60 now on something I will be making obsolete soon anyway. Find other things to keep self busy in the mean time.

Repeat.

BTW someone who can't get $60 easily not being on message boards is yet more poor logic... I would argue people who aren't making much money may well be the ones with the MOST time to be on message boards. Teenagers living at home with no jobs, unemployed or just born wealthy and no need to work.

In fact I would gues that the majority of video game forum members by very virtue of who they are, are likely to be largely people for whom $60 is a reasonably big deal.

I have a decent job and live comfortably and even I think twice before dropping $60 on my entertainment budget. Thinking back to my earlier years and my crappier jobs, I bought VERY few games and each purhcase was quite the decision...

But I posted on forums a lot! :D

Look, you said you don't undersatnd the mentality. I posite you just haven't allowed yourself to consider a broad enough range of situations to understand other points of view and have made some poor choices in logic along the way.

I don't care about more tracks, cars and events, just want LEADERBOARDS!!!
You spend way more time setting good laps against the world, than beating the dumb AI in events that are set out badly with bad rewards.

Can we PLEASE sustain from derailing this topic into flamewar too?

THANK YOU.

It looks like Update will be connected with ongoing big Maintenance started worldwide.

The online service of Gran Turismo 5 will undergo maintenance during the following hours:

Start: 20/12/2010 06:00 (GMT)
Finish: 20/12/2010 08:00 (GMT)

Start: 20/12/2010 12:00 (GMT)
Finish: 20/12/2010 13:00 (GMT)

During the maintenance, it will not be possible to connect to any of the online services.

*Please note that the exact times of the maintenance may slightly vary.

UK: http://eu.gran-turismo.com/gb/news/d18417.html

US: http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/news/d5515.html

JP/AS: http://www.gran-turismo.com/jp/news/d11228.html

Most probable is that both Official Events/Rankings are incoming, but untill we see an 1.04 Update everything is still speculation.

I have no idea.

Since it is simultaneous worldwide Maintenance - we haven't had something like that yet - I can only presume it have something to do with "large" update scheduled for approx. 20/12 as Yamauchi announced.

And by having all servers updated, maybe we can really expect that full-online portion goes up (Official Events/Rankings/etc.)

I guess that game will need a Update too, so until somebody actually downloads some "1.04" or "1.1" game-update nobody can be certain about anything.

Sweet....that's only a few hours away. :)
Seein' as us Aussies are currently 11 hours ahead of GMT, it should be update-able by 11pm.
Set the box up (PS3)...download over night......too easy. :)

Ok, I'm ready....

AussieStig117: my connection just got upgraded from 50gig a month to 1000gig a month for free. I'm in Melbourne.

I can't download enough!! (I'm not trying to rub it in, but just hinting that perhaps you can find a better offer).

yea i am with you, cant use up the downloads. perhaps your downloading too much of something something... :)

where is this update? us aussies here almost hitting the 21st

Dammit, Im away on holiday and have my 3G And laptop..is it worth updating?? Time will tell...makes me wish I was back home... hahahaa. I worked so hard for this vacation though lol

yak yak yak.

I'm done. Not getting into the ridiculous circular logic debate garbage that runs rampant on the internet. I told you how the OP's post read to me. Case closed.

Anyway, I may take a peek online and see if the update came through yet although I'm hoping for more from the update.
