Ok let's break it down.
The OP says he held off buying Forza. The implication there was he had a 360 or means to one and simply held off buying the game. Had he said he held off buying a Forza AND a 360 there would have been no argument from me.
The implication was that the expectation of GT5 was enough to prevent him from taking whatever steps were involved in buying one of the Forza's that have come out in the last 3 years.
Again the implication here is he held off to play GT5 not that times were tight and he couldn't get it. "Held off" and "Unable to" or "It was a tough choice but I HAD to hold off" etc. would have clearly implied the inability to do a certain act the choice not to do said act.
What part of making a decision where to put their money is not covered by "held off"? As was clearly demonstrated by the example I gave of myself, I can easily afford to get both blops and BFBC2, however I held off on getting one over the other because I don't feel it's worthwhile to drop an addition $60 on a game similar to one I already have that I feel is as good or better anyway.
I am not unable to, I am not in hard times, I have simply heald off becuase $60 is not a decision I take lightly under any circumstances.
Now this is a legit point however , for whatever reason, once two years had passed and nothing I had a feeling we wouldn't see anything for a LONG time. So that would be up to one's perception of how things are going whether to wait around or not. I chose not to.
That was your feeling. It wasn't the only insider who could shed light on the situation (PD) wasn't really forthcomming with helpful info on that front either.
When the carrot gets moved furhter away, there is no certain way to know whether and how far it will be moved again.
Now as far as 60 bucks look let's be real. If 60 bucks in 6 years is that hard to come buy then I suggest someone in that dire straights won't have time to get on a message board and infact shouldn't have gaming on the mind. That person has a lot more important things going on in life they need to attend to. 60 bucks every week, month or so , ok I can go along with that, but 60 bucks in a span of years?
Again, as I said, he didn't know it would be 6 years. If he is psychic or owns a time machine, well then I agree, he was a fool for making his decision. Since I doubt either of those, you can't argue the waiting 6 years point since most likely it was just a repeated case of "waiting a little while more" which we have all done plenty of times in our live.
And again take it out of the abstract and look at the reality of it:
There is sometehing coming soon which you have every reason to believe is going to be awesome and better than this other something else on the shelf right now. You decide why waste money on this thing when in a little while I will buy this other better thing. You go one with life and other things to bide your time until the better thing comes along.
A delay.
Ack, that sucks, well still that better thing is going to be out soon, why buy this other thing when I will be getting the better one soon? I would feel a real fool if my impatience got the better of me and made me waste $60 now on something I will be making obsolete soon anyway. Find other things to keep self busy in the mean time.
Repeat.
BTW someone who can't get $60 easily not being on message boards is yet more poor logic... I would argue people who aren't making much money may well be the ones with the MOST time to be on message boards. Teenagers living at home with no jobs, unemployed or just born wealthy and no need to work.
In fact I would gues that the majority of video game forum members by very virtue of who they are, are likely to be largely people for whom $60 is a reasonably big deal.
I have a decent job and live comfortably and even I think twice before dropping $60 on my entertainment budget. Thinking back to my earlier years and my crappier jobs, I bought VERY few games and each purhcase was quite the decision...
But I posted on forums a lot!
Look, you said you don't undersatnd the mentality. I posite you just haven't allowed yourself to consider a broad enough range of situations to understand other points of view and have made some poor choices in logic along the way.
