Ki

Does anyone know about Ki? Ki is a martial art where you use internal energy create a force instead of using a physical weapon.

Wanna explain how this Ki thing works? Like, what can you do with your magical energy force?

She can't seem to get enough Ki. It's ridiculous.
Let's see, I also used Ki about 10 minutes ago when I was waiting for my computer to boot up. I used Ki this morning before school, which was weird and nearly made me late, because I usually do that at about 4 o'clock every day. My Ki is out of schedule.

Ki is said to follow intent; martial artists believe that an action performed with true and focused intent will be "full of Ki" and thus will be more effective yet less demanding than an action performed with lack of Ki. This action is not necessarily limited to martial technique. Conversely, physical or mental tension impedes the flow of Ki.
Although Ki is recognized as an integral element of most Eastern martial arts, certain types of martial arts, such as Aikido and Tai Chi, place greater emphasis on its principles and cultivation than others.
ki is equivalent to Qi or Chi in Chinese

Karma sucks. It always comes back when I don't want it to. What a bugger.

It's The Force!

So, if Ki is equivalent to Chi in Chinese, don't you get . . . . . never mind. :yuck:

Talking about "KI", I think Aikido is one of the best martial arts ever. It's incredible, you guys should defenitely check it out.

I went to a session as a guest with my friend and I was very impressed with it, but my pocket wasn't getting along with $50/class every week though.

Ciao!

Ki is not a martial art, it's an element of all martial arts.

In kendo, we think of chi/ki as the "oh ****" factor that you feel when facing somebody. Ki is just the intensity you display and the "energy" that you emit while doing so. The more ki you have, the more you worry your opponent.

Ozzy, for 50 bucks per class, you're getting ripped off. It's a McDojo, man. Legit martial arts are usually instructed for free; all you pay is the facility.

Is that what English calls stamina? Or is it more deep than that?

Dude, you are so backwards...

...And I'm so done messing.

No, it's not stamina. It's power.

For instance:

This guy

has a more intense ki than this guy,

whose ki is practically non-existant.

As another example, look at Muhammad Ali.

HUGE difference. Ki is just intensity, and can be applied to any situation.

Ki is a japanese term that can translate as spirit. Many martial arts have aspects to them of kiaijustsu (the kanji for aiki in aikido is just the reverse of ki ai) Kiai is an energy (spirit) that you can 'unleash' at an opportune time (many times through shouting) to gain an advantage in an encounter, or so it is believed and taught.

Using Ki as a weapon is ludicrous. speed_samurai is right, Ki is the energy used when you fight, not the beams that come out of someones hand.

The so called instructors you see that do this are mere conmen. They use hypnosis to sway their students into believing that they are shot with pure energy. Being apart of the Martial Arts community, you learn to see who are the swindlers and who are the true teachers.

If you really think Ki is a legit martial art, you may as well take up Grand Celestial Do (Yes, there really is a school called that, came from aliens apparently.)

Theres other words for that, such as adrenaline.

Nah adrenaline is when your instinct basically takes over.

No it's not, adrenaline and instinct are two very different things, adrenaline is a chemical your body produces which get's released into your blood stream. You can get an adrenaline rush and it can increase your physical performance.

I'd just like to add to this as well that an adrenaline rush can also cause an increase in endorphine activity which itself has physical effects other than feeling good like pain relief.

It isn't thought of as being similar to adrenaline. It is thought of as something that you cultivate through repetition. Many martial arts ryuha (schools) have their own ways of cultivating this 'spirit', which has to do with breathing. When you inhale, when you exhale, and how much you do it, etc. It is difficult to describe in non-japanese terms. There are many old stories of martial arts masters knocking birds out of the air or lizards off posts with a timely 'kiai' shout.

An excellent description of ki can be found in the book 'legacies of the sword' by Karl Friday. If I have time, I will try to post it here.

It's maximising the effect of a rush, that's all. Every single sign of Ki is something that can be explained in other ways, such as adrenaline or endomorphines.

This is a man posing for a photo.

This is the same man full of adrenaline.

There's no point arguing when we clearly have cultural difference ;D

The best thing I can say is when you are in danger or are in a dangerous situation, that is when adrenaline kicks in.

When you are able to call that adrenaline at command and control it, that's when it becomes Ki.

i think that's a really nice explanation Mdnlte :tup i totally agree with you!
