I've personally never seen a digital speedo that reads in parts of a unit, eg. 52.3mph.

I did :) But it wasn't in a car, but on a bicycle..

I use kmh, because I'm used to it.. However I started in 1990 with MPH in Grand Prix Circuit, and most games until ~2000 had MPH, like TOCA (BTCC)2, CMR1, QRAC Rally, etc

Put it this way, it's ok if you are doing 8kmph, thats 5mph, but if you are going 4kmph, it'll show as either 2 or 3 mph, when infact you are traveling at 2.5mph, therefore kmph is more accurate.

BTW - I use MPH, so i'm not a kmph "fanboy"

Wouldn't a speedo just show you the needle in-between 2 and 3mph? (or where 2 and 3 are supposed to be?)

I'm in the UK but i use KPH. I can easily roughly convert speeds into mph though. Dunno why i use kph, just like it more i guess..

I can use either just fine but I use Km/h by default.

The metric system is the tool of the devil!

... but seriously, if you don't use metric you're stubborn, and stupid.

How can one unit of measure be more accurate than another? lol

Because 1 inch has less units than 2,54 cm wise-ass.

And I use meters, more precise, easier because of the 10's and 100's and I'm simply used to it.

I've read the entire thread and it is impossible for one unit of measurement to be more 'accurate'. It is impossible. A mile is a mile and a meter is a meter. Neither is more accurate at measuring distance...idiots.

You the idiot.

A distance is a distance. Correct. Like I said, the more units a certain distance has, the more precise it is. Idiot.

Km/h. It just makes more sense:
50km/h = in the city
100km/h = on the highway
150km/h = speeding on the highway
200km/h = sporty cars
250km/h = sportscars
300km/h = supercars
350km/h = exotics
400km/h = hypercars and tuner beasts

Also, even though it isn't any faster, it's psychologically easier to see "200" going into a corner and think, "oh crap I need to brake now!" than it is if you see "124." Your mind processes the size of the number more quickly than it can recall what that number means.

On a similar note, I use km/h in FUEL so I can "forget" how slow the vehicle top speeds are in that game. :indiff:

This too. And you don't really need something more precise than km/h considering how quickly the numbers flitter by in that unit already. :)

Hmm, I am surprised. I thought mph was just a U.S. thing. There are several of you around the globe that use mph. Most of us that use mph can't convert km/h.

Weird, I haven't seen one that doesn't.
What car has a digital speedometer with decimal places?

I was trying to point out that precision and accuracy are not synonymous in the scientific community. Everyone was using them as if they were.

But what gets me is that filling the car with fuel is in liters! I never know how much fuel I'm putting it.

All car's have a 100 liter tank, so if it makes it easier for you, just think of it as a percent.
50 liters = 50% tank

Anyways back on topic.
I use MPH cuz I'm in the US. Though to be honest I rarely look at the speedometer when driving.

I'm just curious about those that use both. What criteria do you use for deciding which races to use km and which to use mi? It seems like a waste of time.

Why would it make sense for me to use metric when the rest of the country I live in won't. That would make me look super intelligent and not stubborn at all. Regardless if it is more user friendly once you get used to it.

....but seriously, you're an ass.

What car has a digital speedometer with decimal places?

While I don't know about every car just the ones I have experience with.. Cadillac Deville, Ford F150, Ford Focus I think has that option.. big trucks like Kenworths and Internationals, Ford Windstar. That's all the ones I have seen and I can think of off the top of my head

Despite living in Australia and driving in real life in KPH.

When I race, any game, I prefer MPH, why?
The way I think and my sense of speed is superior in MPH. I think 0-60mph, 0-100mph, like car performance numbers, I don't think 0-100 and 0-160.

I'm shocked how many Ukers use MPH. I couldnt use Kmh if my life depended on it.

The cars mileage (loosely) is in km and that doesnt bother me cause miles in this game doesnt mean much. But what gets me is that filling the car with fuel is in liters! I never know how much fuel I'm putting it.

That's like saying your shocked because there are other people in this world that aren't UK/American

----

AND YES KM/H is more accurate because of THE LACK OF DECIMAL POINTS!

So.

We generally agree that 1mi = 1.6km

So if the Car was travelling at 160km/h

it would be 100mph

right

but if the car was travelling at 161km/h

the speedo would read 100 mph

thus km/h being more accurate in the context of GT.

Hope this settles the argument

One unit of measurement is no more accurate than the other.
One unit of measurement may be more precise.

Some people here need to learn the difference between accuracy and precision

Yes, but in just normal speak people use 'accurate'

it's just the way we speak.

50 liters = 50% tank

yeah most cars i have owned or driven have had fuel tanks from 40 liters to about 65 liters.

my current car which is a Legnum VR4 has a tank of 60 liters.

oh and i use Km/h.

He meant all cars in the game have 100 liter fuel tanks.

The game has my speedo set to mph by default because I live in the US, but I don't use the HUD so it doesn't make a difference to me.

If you measure the speed of a car in lightyears/h and display it using three significant digits, it will be 0.00 no matter what you do.
Can you really not see how a scale with elements closer together is more accurate when the number of significant digits is limited?

My argument stands, calling me an idiot will not defeat it.
And in case you're wondering about this idiot's background, I study physics and mathematics at Lund university.

When you limit the number of significant figures to, say 3... in lightyears per hour, 60 km/h is actually 6.34 / 10 to the 12th power, whereas 61 km/h is 6.45. Which would actually be more accurate than what we have now. (In math, significant figures don't actually care where the decimal point is, actually)

You get smaller increments with km/h versus mp/h... but since you get less than 2 kilometers per mile in each increment, for most people, it doesn't matter. (I use kilometers, by the way).

Wow, I can't believe I just read this whole thread.

Neither km/h or mph are more accurate or precise when looking at an analogue gauge. (Thats what I look at in game and IRL. I don't know about the rest of you.)

I'm used to MPH from living in the States. Although, it shouldn't matter for me since I can race fine without a speed measurement.

Also, I can't really convert. Forgot how. *sigh* It's not the metric ITSELF that gets me. Using it on its own, I understand it perfectly. Also, I know some points where this in km/h equals that in mph but give me something random and I could only make a guess. On their own, separate, I get it, but trying to convert and I'm lost there.
