Knives, Swords, and everything in between.

That's fair enough. My question wasn't a sarcastic one. I just wondered whether people had specific applied uses or they were just ornaments or both.

Apologies if I came across wrong. Most people presume I must be up to no good owning 3 fighting knives.

Personally I use my Ka-Bar (second pic) to skin rabbits and deer when I go shooting. The SA80 Bayonet (first pic) is a remnant of a career on hold. The Fairbairn-Sykes Commando fighting knife was passed down to me by my grandfather, and he won it from a secret service member in a game of cards during WW2.

That Fairbairn knife might be worth a fortune... You gotta find out much it costs and give us a heads up. 👍

Only sword I own thus far is this:

Funnily enough I have recently had it re-valued by an expert and taken out insurance on it. With the scabbard, letter, signed photograph (of my grandfather and the secret service commando) and signed playing card (supposedly the card that won the knife) it was valued at between £800-£1400.

The one thing that REALLY creeps me out about it is that the inside of the scabbard is stained a dark red/brown colour. I'm hoping this is mud, but the letter does mention that it has been used for it's intended purpose successfully and more than once.

Needless to say, it will never be sold while I am still on this sweet earth, and hopefully I can pass it down when the time comes.

This is my only one:

For those who don't know, this is the rebellion sword from Devil May Cry 3. I got it as a gift from by brother.

It's not mud.... It's cranberry juice. :sly:

That, is a beautiful sword. Big fan of DMC series :D

I got a LOT of work done today on my weapon, it's so lethal just carrying it will cut your hands up. No lies, when I put it away today I had about 3 or 4 cuts on my hand without realizing until i went to clean off the metal 'dirt' off my hands.

Who needs a Master Sword when you can have a Biggoron sword :sly:

I thought you got the Master Sword, because you were chosen as the Hero of Time :sly:

That's specific only to Ocarina of Time, but still, Chosen one of the Gods or Hero of [insert title here] either way.

The titles vary depending on the timeline.

Yes, I'm an LoZ nerd.

psst, what kind of LoZ nerd wouldn't want a master sword?

Actually, Although I'm not a big LoZ fan myself, If i could have something I would like a Hylian Shield; the thing is sure beautifully styled.

Very useful, I must say. ;)

I'll have to dig up some pictures of my four Nihonto (traditional japanese swords) and post them here. Didn't realize this thread had been created.

My daily carry: Cold Steel push dagger Safe Maker I. It feels and handles so great, I'm never going to carry an ordinary knife again.

Pic just to get an idea of its size, I do NOT carry it like that.

And my Coldsteel ''Grosses Messer''. (- Big knife, yeah, its a knife, not a sword thanks to its wooden sandwiched grip and only one side of the blade is sharp.)

schwert4kl.jpg

As heavy as a greatsword but shorter and quicker, it really handles like a greatsword-sabre hybrid with enormous cutting power - I bet a full power blow could cut a man in half. Sword on top is a bastard sword.

I can't imagine how exhausting it is to forge swords. I tried to make one end of my top-secret project sharper but it is SO exhausting I gave up half way. So I just grinded one side down until it was sharp.

Those look really cool, but do you do with them realistically, other then collecting and showing them off? Very nice pieces, though!

Thank you. I know a few basic moves and a thing or two about sword fighting but no, I wouldn't say I'm a very skilled medieval warrior. I can use it, I'm just not very skilled with it. I've chopped a few things to pieces though. :dopey:

My weapon of choice is the rifle, I collect them, shoot them weekly and I'm a very skilled marksman. Should dragons appear, I'll give them a bullet in the head from 600 yards away without even leaving my comfortable armchair. ;P

Hehe! Hey, why bother with run-of-the-mill knives when you can practice up on your dragon-slaying skills while performing mundane tasks AND look cool all at once, right?:sly: A very good point!

Don't know much about rifles either (most of what I collecct is decidedly non-lethal:)), but I bet marksmanship skills take alot of practice. At least I know who to turn to if I need a dragon sniper!:sly:

Is that seriously what differentiates a Knife from say a Dagger?

Then what defines a sword?

Well, its definitely learning by doing, good thing is its so much fun that you'll totally forget that you're practicing and trying to improve your skills. You'll just blast away. :sly:

Single edged blade and sandwiched wooden handle makes it knife as far as I know. Swords have double edged blades an handles made of wrapped leather or steel wire, but there are so many sub-categories of swords - its very hard to tell sometimes. Especially Falchions, some of them are swords and some of them knifes, some of them hybrids its very confusing. :scared:
