Laguna Seca Lap Times For 449 Cars (And Counting!)

Update for a new car!

1:52.785 - 410 - Lancia Stratos '73

This car is so slippery. There aren't many other cars in the game below 550 PP that require such careful steering and throttle inputs. 1:52 is the best I'm capable of with a controller.

Yes, I have this same problem, but I love the car itself...I use it for drifting or rally racing. Keep up the fantastic work Suzuka!

Not as crazy as CH tires on a FXX or McLaren F1, trust me lol
Oh, I believe you, bud. I'm so shocked because I struggled with Veyron on sport hard with no aid on Ascari, practicing for the final S5 license...

The Veyron's surprisingly easy to handle once you come to terms with its weight. Tremendous weight means tremendous grip--and that's even before you add the 4WD. I've said it elsewhere, forced SRF on that license test made it hard to figure out what the car wanted to do. I'm surprised it managed a full two seconds faster than the Mine's BNR34, though.

I'm thinking of adding standard cars to this lap time database. What do you think? Should I mix standards in with the premiums or start a new thread for standards only?

The Veyron is incredibly easy to drive even on CH tires, I think people just try to drive it too hard into corners and it'll plow like a tractor if you do that. Get it slowed and rotated into the apex and then punch it and it's as easy to drive as any other car.

Up to you. What do you think about maybe switching tracks and doing an all standard review?

If I switch tracks, it won't be possible to compare standard laps with the premiums. I'll just do what I did with Suzuka and make one huge 600+ car database. Should keep me busy for a few months.

Interesting that the Acura RSX Type-S '04 is a whopping 2.5 seconds slower than the Honda Integra Type R '04.

It's also 7 tenths faster than the Acura Integra Type R '01.

Man, the MR2 GT-S '97 is simply amazing. While it requires much more focus and skill, it ties with the monster Supra RZ!

1:50.892 - 435 - Toyota MR2 GT-S '97
1:50.895 - 471 - Toyota Supra RZ '97

It accomplishes this feat despite being down 2 cylinders, 1,000 cc's, 82 hp, and 168 ft-lbs.

Mid-engine character and 240 fewer kg's more than makes up for all that.

The 2JZ may be a beast of an engine, but fewer people are actually aware of the fact the Supra is beforehand a GT, and is not the most extraordinary cornering machine in stock form.

Anyway, your observations about the MR2 - as well as the Supra's - confirms what actual owners of these cars told me. I even had a girl in a 160 HP NA MR2 crash trying to follow me in hairpins :dunce: Fast car, but not in everyone's hands.

Honda really knows how to build a car. Its contribution to early 90's kei car battles was the naturally aspirated Beat, going up against a turbocharged Mazda with more torque and 40 fewer kg's. It put up a respectable fight, and lost only by less than 3 tenths of a second.

Wow! I am shocked that the BMW M3 CSL was faster than the brand new M4 on this track. Have you any thoughts on some of the "more powerful" cars actually losing some time due to the fact that you must go easier on the throttle, to prevent roasting the CH tires?

Most or all of the rear-drive cars over 550 PP lose some time because of the CH tire requirement for this testing. There may have been a few under 550 PP that spun tires if I was careless with throttle applications but nothing major.

The M3 CSL is a beast. It has 200 more cc's of displacement than the M4, about 80 fewer horses and 133 fewer ft-lbs of torque, BUT it's naturally aspirated and weighs 112 kg's (247 lbs) less.

Spoon's S2000 is 2 seconds quicker than Mugen's take on the car. I added all of the major S2000's besides the Amuse versions which I'll get to later this week.

Also, the Spoon Integra sucks, at least after you drive the Spoon Civic.

Spoon Integra is mayor of Understeersville but it is quick in a straight line. I'm interested in your findings between the higher PP front-wheel drive cars, specifically the Spoon Civic vs Civic Type R Touring Car '97 vs Integra Type R Touring Car vs Trial Celica vs Honda CR-Z TC vs Integra Type R (DC5) Touring Car. Even though I know you hate race cars. :sly:

I don't even know what I have against testing racecars, actually :dunce:

I'll definitely test the Honda TC's and Trial Celica tomorrow if I get home from work early enough. Today was an 11 hour day :grumpy:

@88GTA I finally got around to testing those cars :)

1:43.923 - 485 - Honda S2000 LM Race Car
1:47.643 - 477 - Honda Integra Type R (DC5) Touring Car '04
1:48.430 - 460 - Trial Celica SS-II (ZZT231) '03
1:48.809 - 471 - Honda Integra Type R Touring Car
1:52.119 - 455 - Honda Civic Type R (EK) Touring Car '97
1:52.369 - 433 - Honda Mugen Motul Civic Si '87
1:52.813 - 409 - TRD Celica TRD Sports M (ZZT231) '00

Interesting that the 471 PP Integra isn't any faster than the 460 PP Celica.

The Mugen Civic is a 1:51 car for sure, just like the Civic EK but after 5 attempts with each, I became too frustrated...
On the flipside, I'm pretty proud of my 1:43 time in the S2000 :D

A 25 year old Galant tied with a 10 year old Mini Cooper. Heck yeah Mitsubishi.

Spoon Fit Race Car '03 vs. Honda Fit W '01

Both cars weigh 990 kg, but the Spoon version has been tuned to deliver +25 hp and +22 torque over the stock Fit. There is a 33 PP difference between the two cars.

The Spoon car finishes its lap FIVE SECONDS ahead of the '01 and TWO seconds ahead of the Fit RS '10.

Most interesting is that the Spoon is only a tenth or two slower than the '89 Eunos Roadster, and that's a genuine sports car, not a compact 5-door family hatchback!
