2:00.933 - 348 - Toyota Celica 1600GT (TA22) '70
2:02.900 - 340 - Toyota Carina ED 2.0 X 4WS '89

Getting under 2:01 in that Celica felt SO GOOD. Still, it's 2 seconds slower than the Skyline 2000GT-R '70 but it's 2 seconds faster than the Honda 1300 Coupe 9 S '70.

And yes I will certainly do this again for GT7. I have a PS4, and am waiting for the official GT7 racing wheel :)

Re-tested Hyundai Genesis '13 and Honda CR-X '83 and went from 1:51.0 to 1:50.8 and from 2:00.0 to 1:59.8

It took an entire half hour to crack under the 2 minute wall in that CR-X, but I'm very happy that it's capable of it, and even more happy that I'm capable of it.

Compare CR-X's time!

Re-tested Honda City Turbo II '83 and went from 2:00.699 to 1:59.954! Barely slower than the CR-X!

Re-tested the Toyota Celica 2000GT-Four (ST165) '86 because it was a 1:57.0 and I'm attempting to beat all my x:xx.0 lap times...

Couldn't improve the '97 that much, but 2 tenths is better than nothing! The '03 had a lot of room for improvement, and it is now a much more respectable time. However it is no match for the superior Integra which is over 1.5 seconds quicker.

A lot of people say the Mazda Miata/MX-5 is the spiritual successor of the Lotus Elan, but I'd make the argument that the Cosmo is more Miata-like. Sure it's got a rotary engine (the first to be mass-produced) instead of a DOHC 1.6L I-4, and okay it doesn't have a folding roof, BUT it is a Mazda, and it weighs just about the same as the Miata. Also, in the case of the L10B, its performance is more on par with the Miata than the Elan.

This video should be required watching for all GT fans, if only to show what is possible on the hardest tire compound with the most basic input device. If you covered the bottom of the screen, I'd guess that most people would never guess that lap was done on Comfort Hard tires and with a DS3:crazy:. And the corner speeds look absolutely spot on from a spectator standpoint. Nice work:tup:👍

I think that's quite understandable. You provide such a wonderful service for GTPlanet members... I can only imagine how much time you've put into the Suzuka and Laguna Seca tests. Just promise me that you WILL come back after taking a break. It would be a shame to lose you on this forum. I enjoy your videos so much. In fact, I was just searching for a video of you driving the Abarth 500 on Laguna Seca, but I could only locate the Abarth 500 on Suzuka. You've provided us with so many outstanding hot lap videos. I love watching them when I'm trying to get better with a particular car. 👍

After 10-15 minutes worth of attempts, the best I can do right now is 1:34.235 on CS tires. If I was going to be recording this, I'd keep going until I managed 1:33 but on a DS3 there's no way I'm getting 1:32

Same thing with CM tires, I'm sure I could get 1:35 with enough laps.

Hard to tell now which tires are most representative in Randy's lap. Somewhere in between CM and CS.

Maybe they are even sports hard? Car and Driver tested with 255/40RF-20 run-flat Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT 600 DSST tires in their test here.

How were your cornering speeds compared to Pobst's lap?
 
With SH tires, I got a 1:31.4 but know 1:30 is achievable. Aliens with wheels can do 1:28 maybe 1:27 if they know magic or use more of the track than they would in real life.

139 mph (GT6) vs. 137 mph (Randy)

Cornering speeds varied a lot. I'd need a wheel for better accuracy and precision in my cornering.

That's exactly the feeling I have. For me, CM would be the cheapest "sports" road tyres, CS would be the high-end of road-profiled sports tyres with hard semi-slick rubber (such as the Toyo R1R).
 
CS are the ones closer to the ones GTR NISMO wears. Randy isn't all out there. My lap on CS was 1'35" and was a bit risky, so Randy's safe but fast was 1 sec slower which is great time in real world.
 
Yeah, it's fast, but the entry understeer is annoying. It will be much faster with a setup allowing it to slide a bit under braking.

I cannot wait until the 2016 Mazda Roadster 2.0L comes to Gran Turismo. It will weigh about 100 kg less than the NC and have 9 fewer horses but 8 more ft-lbs of torque. I'm guessing it will do a lap in 1:28 and reach a speed of 123 mph :sly: Reaching ever closer to the awesome performance of the S2000, and possibly tying with the BRZ!

Haha, I'm enjoying Mid-Field as well. For me, it was a "meh" track in previous games, but with the GT6 physics, it is much more interesting and I really enjoy it. I really like the reverse version as well.
 
Got around to the Honda S2000 '06 and it ran a 1:26.718 or exactly 1 second behind the S2000 '99.
