i agree though my car has a spoiler and body kit and vinyl im not a ricer
That is the definition of rice. You are a ricer, sorry to break it to you. Take the body kit, vynil and wing and add a turbo kit and you wont be a ricer.

Tied with what? Like both and Impreza. A real tie would be between the EVO and Impreza.;)

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

Although they both are sorta almost the same in performance, I would go with the Subaru Imprezza because I think it looks cuter a bit than the EVO in my opinion! :O:O:O

Hmm, tough call!!

Cars I like to mod:
- Lancer Evo VIII RS (USDM)
- Impreza WRX wagon (USDM)

CarsI like to drive everyday:
- Impreza WRX STi (USDM-spec)
- Lancer Evo VIII FQ-340 MR (Euro-spec, I'll get it on www.evolutionimports.com for me to own it here in the US)

So I like to have them both! :dopey:

The only reason i'd pick an Evo VIII over the STi is because Mitsubishi dealerships are less dikks about the Evo than Scooby Dealerships are about the STi......
The Dealership here has a DEMO car in which they drive you around and show you what it's capable of..The STi dealership, you're lucky to SIT in the car let alone drive it or be driven in it...so unless you know someone with an STi...you're SOL....

Mitsu warrenty plan is retarded.....Mitsu = such asses about problems w/ the car

Sub I have no clue on how they are with car problems.....

Evo VIII I don't like simply because it's the only evo in the whole line of evo's that doesn't out perform it's predecesor.....(3 beat the 2......4 beat the 3...etc)
the MR..I don't know about.....it's probably the same case when comparing mr to mr...but I don't know yet....

STi, I like the fascia on the STi...but scooby did a bad move by changing the body style on EVERY imprezza to match the STi...if the STi had stood out with those headlights it'd be cool..but now any WRX you get has the sqaure lights....

....I'll say.......Evo.......
The boxter engine sounds like horse crap when it's modded and the seat bolsters take to long to be broken into the driver in the STi......

I disagree. Yes, it different than almost any other car, but it is both distinctive and nice and raspy...kind of gutteral rather than high and buzzy. But it's all a matter of personal opinion I suppose.

Mitsubishi Lancer, Evolution VIII, Mitsubishi Racing, ****ing Quick 340. Or FQ for short. To make the jump from standard Evo to potential Subaru-beater, the FQ must first go on a rapid weight-loss program. The FQ has been lightened, lowered, visually tweaked, and mechanically overhauled, even beyond the U.S.-spec MR Edition. To save weight and lower the center of gravity, the roof and side-impact bars are aluminum, and the wheels by Team Dynamics are revised heat-treated items that save a further seven pounds. Combined, Mitsubishi has shed 23.6 pounds from the standard Evo's curb weight.

Each corner houses new Bilstein suspension with altered damping rates and repackaged mounting points. Developed on the Nuerburgring, the tweaks are intended to sharpen up the handling and make the Evo easier to live with on a daily basis.

Up front, the high-strung 2.0-liter four has been given a warming over: new cam profiles, a reworked turbo, and a reprogrammed ECU. The result is 342 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque channeled through a six-speed box and Mitsubishi's trick all-wheel-drive system with Active Yaw Control and Active Center Differential.

dude, you read way to much motor trend.

anyway, I voted for both. the impreza was kind of like a first love for me. I fell in love with it in GT1 and havent ben able break away. I'll never forgive subaru for what they did to it though. first they F up the body (used for one year, need I say more), although the new style is better. but worstly, the powertrain options suck. the WRX gets a dinky (by comparison) 227 horse 2.0 liter and although the STi gets more umph, (it never used to be that way) it comes from a bigger heavyer engine. if subaru could have just given us the good olle fasioned 276 hp 2.0 liter in both cars, and made the STi a road oriented peripherals package ie suspension and stuff (the way it used to be) the new Impreza would still be an evo fighter. subaru sold out to appeal to the american demographic. In reality the lancer is the hands down better performer now, but I guess its just like my love for the camero, even though the mustang is a superior car.

actually in the countries where WRC rally contention still matters..The STi still makes 280HP in it's jp 2.0L version.......Which is probably underrated ...ya know the whole 280 craP

Only one respnse to that...

 THANK GOD

But I must know, is it the same 2.0 liter thats in the us speck wrx? In a higher state of tune of course. even if not I gues through the aftermarket 280 hp should be easily atainable in a us. speck (227 hp) WRX. and unfortunately, I think the Impreza was one of the cars that wasent overrated at 276 hp. but you never know, the race version did make 300 horses or so with a ristrictor.

Let me tell you something. I mentioned Impreza/Lancer as the Camaro/Mustang of the Japanese auto culture. These are two rally heavyweights. Believe it or not, I don't have a clear-cut favorite in this matchup. If I had to choose (Goomba, you might like this one), I'm going with the Impreza, and here's why. Both the Lancer and Impreza are terrors on the World Rally circuit, but I'm more of a Subaru fan. That's not to say the Lancer isn't crap, however. The Lancer is a very sporty machine that can back it up with performance. Subaru had Richard Burns and Colin McRae, while Mitsubishi had Tommi Makkinen. And I think the Impreza is more balanced even if it does look "ugly." Even the "Fifth Gear" crew called them a "little less ugly." American car fans disliked in "Hot Rod Magazine" that the Impreza/WRX knocked off the Ford Mustang in stock trim. The HRM crew also said "some American car lovers just don't want to think that these cars (Japanese) exist."

So, I'd have to say the Impreza. I think it has a lot of prestige and a hell of a lot going for it. It's been that way since its introduction. And just for fun, the Impreza is racing the JGTC while the Lancer isn't, so the Impreza is trying to prove it's more than just a rally car. So to make a long story short: Impreza/WRX is my pick.

The REX, without a doubt. Come to think of it. I really can't wait to pilot that 03 WRX STi on GT4  Rally and road versions

The 2.5 liter has its advantages. Like torque, lots of it. I've seen guys at ClubWRX that have either blown or just decided to swap out the EJ20 for the EJ25. Since the engines are practically the same, usually 300hp can be made without replacing internals, most of the modifications move over, so they'll make up to 20hp more than the original 2 liter, but they'll gain around 40 to 70 pound feet of torque over the other. The only bad thing, is you don't get that 8k redline.

John, I always knew you were a good guy. 👍

While this was open I went and grabbed the Car and Driver that had the comparison of the STi vs. Evo. I'll agree the Evo is a far more balanced car, but the only thing that is really going to matter to 99% of the general population out there is how comfortable it feels on the edge, while the STi gets shakey and isn't composed as well. When Car and Driver threw the cars around a course, the difference was .16 seconds. So much of that can be the driver too.
