One question guys...Does the 120d sound like a Diesel?.

And another thing...

I always see people here talking about realism and then I see some persons choosing "arcade tyres"...¿?¿?¿?¿....Y respect the decision, but I don´t understand it (I supose they don´t care about realism).

For me, the road tyres are the ones to choose.

So i just decided to drive my further timelaps on the Nordschleife with road tires. It´s really amazing how much harder the driving get´s.

I was already wondering about lot´s of corner where i brake in "Real-Life" and where i have to go even 2 (!!!) gears slower with my 136 PS Opel than with the "Arcade-Tyres".

And cause i´m trying to learn something for the next season and for real-life i decided to change to road tires.
The challenge is really much harder !

My best time with the 120 i on arcade was 9:01 and my first lap on road tires was 9:25 (!!!)

Almost half a minute !

Is anyone able to drive the 120i on road tires under 9 Minutes !

That would be a benchmark !

That's ridiculous, everyone is free to choose its tires. We can't judge anybody on that point.

For me, as long as I'll be learning the track, I'll use arcade tires.
Then, when I can do a full lap with only one eye and only one hand, I'll use road tires, for sure, for more realism and more challenge.

My opinion to this is... It's a race track - so I would use race tires if there were any. Or do you know any Racedriver who's going on the track with Streettires? That's not realistic ;)

So anyone can drive with the tires available - who cares...

not atm, current best in the 120 i is 9´07.742

but as i still have to learn the track, there´s hope out there.;)

Well, i´m not a race driver ! I´m driving there sometimes with my private car and privates are only allowed to drive with legal and registered street cars on the ring (including normal street tyres, slicks are also not allowed)

So in order to compare and improve my ring-times i will go on with street tires.

But VV, i agree !

Everyone is free to choose !

Just managed a lap with:

120i
road tires
9:22,392

I´m writing my opinion, not telling people what tyres they must choose.

No one has told me how the 120d sounds...is the Diesel engine sound noticeable?...and the turbo?...

For sure there is a diffenrence between the sound of the diesel and the gasoline 120er, but the diesel just sounds a little more gutural and has some more base.

The turbo-sounds have always been a weak point in the GT-Series.
Driving with the 120d you heare abolutely nothing from the turbine or the blow-off valve !!!

Sorry to disappoint you.

I wonder why people prefer to drive with the 120i.

By the way - to increase the realism, I suggest anyone have to pay 14 Euro per round as you have to on the real Nordschleife as a public driver. ;)

Well it might be that.. OR it might be the fact that the 120d doesn't have a turbo? Hmm yeah I think that's a more valid reason.

Sorry 'bout that !!!

When i heard about "common-rail" and the horsepowers i just believed that it must have a turbo.

Well i´m no diesel-specialist at all !!!

Cars without spark plugs that only make 5000 rpm are actually no cars at all :-)
(for me !!!)

I hope, that this will not start a new disussion about diesel/gasoline !

No i don´t !

And i would love to drive in a front-driven, front-Motor Compact Car in GT4, to make better comparisons with my little Astra !

But i will be able to in November (hope so !!)

i prefer the 120i mainly because it sounds cooler, the 120d doesn't sound powerful... (yet it's more powerful than the 120i). besides, the 120i is a tad more challenging, because you need to keep the RPM's avobe 4.5k to get torque... wich means if you take a coner too slow (say you drop to about 3k RPM's) you'll lose tons of momentum, on the 120d torque is not a problem at allmost any RPM, so that makes things easier.

So the 120d still have a turbo, look here, it´s an .pdf file from the BMW Homepage

here some short specs, all from the BMW Homepage:

Triebwerk 120d
(Engine 120d)

4-Zylinder-Reihendieselmotor mit 4-Ventil-Technik
(4 cylinder-inlinedieselengine with 4 valve technique)
Turbolader mit variabler Turbinengeometrie
Turbo :)

So "made", what about your useless quote ???? :dopey:

after a few hours of driving the 120d with no aids, manual gearbox and road tires i'm down to 9:03:587 so far, the lap was by no means perfect and you should be able to break the 9 minute barrier on a more successful lap (if only slightly under). I only got the demo today so i still haven't got all the turns (especially the last few ones) 100% yet. 👍
i dont think the 120i will be able to go under 9 minutes with the stock setup though, but maybe someone will prove me wrong. :)

after a few more tries i'm finally under 9 minutes with the 120d.. (down to 8'59.825 with road tires/manual/no aid/dfp) and there are still a lot of margin around the track.
this demo will last a long time for me. :D

like everyone has said the new physics engine is not to recognise from GTP, but i think braking is still too forgiving and they should have made the 'dizzy-effect' after crashing last a lot longer.

i don't know about how realistic that is, but on the 8'59 lap i was a whole 1.5 seconds slower on the split time near Breidscheid (before Ex-Mühle) than my fastest split so far there, and even the rest of that lap wasn't perfect so that lap can and will be beaten by several seconds still when people start improving their times, trust me. :)

Dirkiyo
well i don't like to say this, but if you can complete a lap within 9 minutes with a stock BMW 120d...................than it isn't that realistic......how can this happen, please check out these laptimes: Laptimes: Nordschleife

You have to consider one thing :

The start/finish line in the BMW Demo isn´t the correct place ! Since already 4 years the "tourist-drivers" start almost in the middle of the highspeed section "Döttinger Höhe". You can see the building on the right side of the track on the döttinger Höhe.

In the BMW Demo you start at one of the slowest corners of the track (T13 old star/finish-line).

In real-life you have to start at a location where the demo let´s you pass with almost 200 KpH.

It´s like breaking from 200 to 80 and then accelerating again.

So in the demo you loose less time with the standing start, than in real life.

Here are some Nordschleifen laptimes from the "sport auto", a german sport car magazine which test most cars on the Nordschleife:

BMW M3 SMG: 8:35
Porsche Boxster: 8:54
AMG-Mercedes SLK230 Kompressor: 9:07
F355: 8:18
Chevrolet Corvette: 8:40
Honda NSX: 8:38
BMW M Roadster: 8:32
Chrysler Viper GTS: 8:10
[...]
Audi S4: 8:42
Audi S3: 8:41
VW Golf V6 4motion: 9:09
Renault Clio V6: 8:49
Honda Civic Type-R: 8:47
VW Golf GTI IV: 8:54
Alfa Romeo 156 GTA: 8:51
VW Golf R32: 8:37
Porsche Carrera GT: 7:40 :dunce: :dunce:
Mini Cooper S Works: 8:55

8'44.980
120d
MT
DSC Off
:D Arcade Tires :D
DFP

More seriously, I think that it's difficult to compare real times (when you can't do any driving fault) and GT times (when you can take all the risks and do runs again and again)

Well apparently I was mistaken. But it doesn't say anywhere on the website or in any magazine I've read that the 120d has a turbo. Except in the pdf. And it's not like it's called 120td as in TurboDiesel either. Oh well I want the demodisc anyway! :)

you made a good point there..that could indeed make a big difference.
I did 6.93 km in 3 minutes with a Bmw 120d(MT+DSC off+SPORTS tires)....since i don't have a cracked version.

Well this has to be the best demo i've played all year.

I got like 10 mins 6 seconds using road tyres with the 120i but i'm all over the place off the track at several points. Mainly due to how awesome it is.

I think the laptime is quite realistic! Look at the Time of the stock Opel Astra '92 150 HP: 9:31
And the VW Golf4 GTI : 8:54

Also look carefully at the distance you have 20,8 and 22,8 Km.
