From the responce on the forums, I can gather that no one likes the Leaf. Why? Cars like the old 500 are much slower and will handle worse due to skinny tires and lacking HP, and yet all the hybrids are hated on. With instant power that the electric motor is capable of, hybrids and electrics arent that slow for their pp range. Does everyone just hate the concept of hybrids or is it something else.

I for one find ths Leaf and its Toyota and Honda brothers interesting. Not fast or gpod looking, but highly interesting.

Electric cars will eventually kill everything I like about motorsports. The smell, the sound, the excitement.

Could just be human nature... people feel it's not "cool" if you're not doing something bad. In this case I'm talking about the thought "Oh it's electric and I'm not dumping Carbon Monoxide into the atmosphere, this means I'm a wussy".

The fact is, like you said electric cars can provide a lot of fun and competitive racing too. It's just a dark cloud hovering over electric cars or even just thinking them.

I hope that much of the developed world has moved to at least 50% of commuter cars are electric. It's only right.

Exactly my thoughts. Gliding silently in a single gear with a annoying electric whine is what a consider pretty boring.

I find it funny as there were dozens of people asking for the Leaf, not just the RC. Where did those people go?

The smell will be gone. I agree that exhuast and gas fumes do mix quite well (as long as you not smelling for too long). The sound will change, but its a new sound that some may grow to love. For others, thats what the radio and sound proofing is for. The Leaf is actually supposed to be near silent. The excitment on the other hand doesnt have to go. Do you find the Tesla boring? I dont. I don't think we will ever have a good, long range, electric car. IMO they will most likely be supported by inline fours/threes. Now it some one wanted to you could have the motor from an Evo with the hybrid bits from a Leaf. Sound boring to you?

We're being quiet and not polluting the forums with spam, like a Leaf. :dopey: When the Leaf arrives, I'm going to have fun with it, regardless of how many haters think it should be replaced with whatever car seems to be popular at the moment.

I wouldn't be surprised if people were annoyed about the 60 year old economy cars, either. The difference being that those are already in the game.

And they can't be taken particularly far out of their PP range, either. The electric cars in particular can only be lightened, but none of the hybrids (Honda Dualnote excepting) can be modified particularly much.

leaf is fwd

fwd = no care

Speak for yourself,

The Golf and Focus ST are FWD and I find those Fuuun :D

I like the leaf because it'll actually save motorsport. How? Less fuel used on the road means more fuel available for racecars.

Everyone's happy in the end (at least in my head).

👍👍👍 I may have to quote this in my signature. :D

They aren't bad cars, but to me, for racing, they aren't exciting enough. Yes, they can be competitive in their range and what not, but they just lack the soul and excitement you get out of a conventional engine. There is a reason car lovers are called petrol heads, just sayin. There will never be an electric car that can send shivers down your spine when it starts up. Whirring just isn't as pleasing as grumbling. As commuter cars, they are the future, but in racing, I believe they don't make the grade.

you're entitled to that feeling

speaking for myself, fwds belong at the mall, not at the race track.

First of all, the Leaf is not a hybrid. The Prius or CR-Z is. And the electric parts from the Leaf added to the Evo motor doesn't sound like it would be all that fun, the electric motor from the Leaf only generates 110 HP, and all the added weight from the electric motor would really bog the car down. A Tesla motor and an Evo engine would interest me, though.

Nice! Easily the best way to look at it. 👍

Try tuning the Premium Insight and Prius, the Insight can even be fitted with a custom manual transmission instead of the automatic-only stock one which basically turns it into a regular FF car in the way it behaves.

Don't mind the Leaf, might actually be interesting for a while, this Nismo version doesn't look bad and perhaps I can make my GT5 version look a bit like it.

And I actually like the cockpit view we're getting, there's a bit of an Apple-vibe in the styling I reckon.

The prius in real life actually has suprising pickup, thats all though really. With that being said you should kick your own ass if your caught driving in one. I would say the 80s oil crisis did serious damage to the auto industry in the states. Basically killed off the true muscle car genre prior to that era. After that you saw the civics, and smaller compacts (blah) become popular. Blame obama when 2015 rolls around

Like all motorsports, the "fun" in any competitive environment is to get the most out of what you have. The Leaf or any other electric vehicle shouldn't be an exception to this as long as they can be reliable over a good length of time without any performance dips.

I don't like much electric cars in GT5 because their performance can't be tuned. I'm sure that in real life one could fit bigger or better batteries, more efficient/powerful motors, overdrive them, etc.

I appreciate eco cars for being green in real life, but considering no cars will pollute in a videogame, I really don't care about them in GT5. Eco cars are good for real life not for videogames, except the Tesla which is a good car period.

Dude take a flight over to Europe and be prepared to be overwhelmed by the massive difference in vehicles you see on the road.

Basically Europe = A LOT of small economical vehicles
USA/Canada = Gas gusseling SUVs, cars, Pick-Ups

In other words USA has a long way to go to clean up their act.

Ok the Prius then. Still you could have a high reving, peaky, engine that would still get of the line and be capable of "lazy" shifting due to the added power. Yes it will add weight, but your also adding a bit of power as well. You'd be making any were from 180-300HP depending on if the enigine had FI in it.

Yes it is.

I see more economical cars everyday then "gas gusseling" SUVs, cars, and pick-ups. Hey look, I'm in America. Seems quite clean over here.

If you look at the psn advertise they especially say this pack includes the leaf rather than aventador as it was the Japanese car of the year. I personally think it is a much more important car because to be honest the environment is a growing concern. As much as motorheads do not want to believe it motorsports and transport are huge contribution to this.

There's your answer, why is it so wrong to love gas powered cars? This generation has been raised to think they are evil and that they are killing the planet. We have come a long way from the gas guzzling monsters of the 70s, today's modern engines are 100 times cleaner and more efficient.
If you are so concerned about the eviroment just think about the eviromental impact of a Prius wich is bigger than that of 2 regular compact cars.

I have been back and fourth between Europe and Canada/US over the last 10 years and difference is night and day.

Most Americans visiting for the first time would be stunned at all the different models. COMPLETELY different, and by that I mean cars that were never introduced into the NA market. To understand this you have to be able to make the comparison first hand.

Well, yeah. I understand that. But you make it sound like there are only "gas-guzzling" cars here and Europe is oh-so clean.

My only gripe with electric cars is the fact that they tend to be quite heavy and not very sporty as a result.

Will definitely try the leaf though once the dlc is released.

The Leaf has been included because PD like to include historically significant cars in their games, as well the performance benchmark-setters. I'm glad that it's been thought over some vanity car like a Zenvo or something, because I feel that giving us a chance to drive an electric car in anger in the virtual world might give us more respect for it in the real world...
