You'd do well to not refute something you claim is "garbage" by spouting what basically amounts to a ridiculous conspiracy theory.

Just Saiyan.

I don't think you understood the post at all.. I'm actually wondering what kind of car he drives because if he really believes there's no excitement in electric or hybrid.. he's so unbelievably wrong because there are electric cars that would probably put his car to shame.. and I'm wondering if he's truly blind if he doesn't see that. I am not specifically claiming that there is a company that is brainwashing, but considering that's the very first post in this thread it would seem that he instinctively spewed his own opinion of which he's so incredibly wrong about.

Like take for instance the smell.. whats stopping us from just building a track around an open fuel pit? It may sound insane but if you truly like the smells of petrol and oil there's no reason the human race couldn't.. it's his own imagination that can't come up with a solution to things that he just thinks belongs to a specific category and can't belong to any other category.

Electric cars will eventually kill everything I like about motorsports. The smell, the sound, the excitement.

Don't worry, it's just a fad.

Hate to say this, but I'd rather have a Skyline than another electric car.

leaf is fwd

fwd = no care

This.

And that fact that they're all ugly. I have yet to see a hybrid that doesn't look like a used bar of soap with tiny tires, or without headlights stretched around to the doors.

If they looked like this I'd be all over hybrids.

Exactly my thoughts. Gliding silently in a single gear with a annoying electric whine is what a consider pretty boring.

Electric cars nor the Tesla don't make that whine noise IRL. They're actually a lot more silent. Only under heavy acceleration you will hear the slighest whine.

BTW has anyone heard of the Leaf Nismo RC Concept?

I can accept the concept of a hybrid car, especially if it has gears like the CR-Z, since, at least, it still sounds like a gasoline engine. But I just can't stand 100% electric cars. No gears, awful sound... just not for me.

I am not sure what I think about the leaf in general. However, I really like the fact that these kinds of cars are all in GT5. It gives the game depth. Sure, if you are a speed lover this car is not for you, but there are a hundred other games out there suited for you. For people who like cars like the leaf there is just one game... please let us have our leaf :D

BINGO! Very well said sir.

I'm not particularly fond of it, but to be honest it isn't a bad looking car.

see, it's those kind of people who don't really recognize each car's true potential. the people who hate on the leaf are the same people who would go for the gold chrome Bugatti and drive like a maniac on the road, the same type of people who got a free x2010 last October and abused it so much with reckless driving. to be a true car enthusiast you need to value each car's potential in their own category.

It appears you posted an ugly car by accident, so I fixed the post for you.

Wow, just wow. Are you actually annoyed I got the first post? Let me just say this. My opinion would've stayed exactly the same even if you would've been here first praising the ''power from the plug'' :D

I admit the best electric cars, performance-wise, would probably put my current car to shame. What I don't agree with is my own honest opinion about electric cars and racing being wrong. GT5 for me is essentially about racing. Driving faster than normally. The current electric cars, the Leaf included, are not designed for that. They are designed to be everything I don't want about a car.

I said I like the smell, sound and excitement of petrol engines. The obvious lack of the smell of burning gasoline is a problem with electric cars. I understand you might hate the smell altogether, but why blame my lack of imagination if you yourself come up with an idea of a fuel pit next to a track?

The sound is also a problem, and it is as difficult to solve as the smell, if you think it's a problem. They either exist, or they don't. That's why it's more than justified to think they ''belong to a specific category and can't belong to any other category'', just like you said.

Makes me wonder what car you drive IRL or if you're just brainwashed by the petrol conglomerate to believe that garbage :\
It could be I've smelled gasoline a bit too much then 💡

to be a true car enthusiast you need to value each car's potential in their own category.

No you don't, you can hate any particular car (or category) for any particular reason and still be enthused about cars in general.
That's something different than being a bit openminded to other sort of cars outside for example the supercar category.

Exactly my thoughts. Gliding silently in a single gear with a annoying electric whine is what a consider pretty boring.

Maybe at first, but technology will catch up and the cars will sound great again. like the CRZ's they get a pretty nice exhaust tone, yes its a hybrid but still.

A balance must be struck between excitement and sustenance, we can go on driving 6L V12s but for how long?

The stock Leaf is...ok, but damn that NISMO Leaf is hot.

From the responce on the forums, I can gather that no one likes the Leaf. Why? Cars like the old 500 are much slower and will handle worse due to skinny tires and lacking HP, and yet all the hybrids are hated on. With instant power that the electric motor is capable of, hybrids and electrics arent that slow for their pp range. Does everyone just hate the concept of hybrids or is it something else.

I for one find ths Leaf and its Toyota and Honda brothers interesting. Not fast or gpod looking, but highly interesting.

Just look at the Fiat. It's a piece of art.

Now the Leaf.

Plus the Fiat is RWD.

Just my opinion

Electric cars in general are bad at everything.
They're ugly, slow, passion-less, boring lumps.
They are not a great solution for clean living. Batteries are the opposite of green and most of our electricity comes from burning coal or nuclear plants. There is no such thing as clean coal.
If you want to move people cleanly put them on a train powered by solar energy.

Maybe I'm completely wrong but I see elecric cars as gimmicks. I don't mean to sound so negative. If automakers want to try different technologies I'm all for it. This one in particular I'm not impressed with, as of yet.

Totally with you there.. When everything is said and done, at the end of the day the whole backend is the one that pollutes the most, not the cars itself.

In addition, if one would put on paper how much electric power one uses just to drive in GT5 and to post (complaint haha) threads here everyday and sums it up to the yearly total then converts it into carbon footprint would proponents of so called "green" motoring be logging off and plugging out?

:)

A lot of people are ragging on the nissan leaf, but I don't think it's ugly at all, but actually beautifully styled around the constraints of modern rules like "when people have a crash in this car, it's not okay for them to be instantly killed". By the way, I'm a huge fan of old cars in general, including the fiat 500, but times have changed, and designers are no longer free to style sheet metal around skimpy tubes.

I agree they are a bit gimmicky atm, but the concept is sound. It's a new innovation and it will become more viable over time, and yeah it makes a lot more sense to have trains and bicycles only, but this is still a precarious baby step in a general direction that needs to be taken. I love motorsport but I hate what public roads and driving have become in this country. They're jammed with too many cars and there's barely enough space left for anyone to find driving an enjoyable experience.

I appreciate eco cars for being green in real life, but considering no cars will pollute in a videogame, I really don't care about them in GT5. Eco cars are good for real life not for videogames, except the Tesla which is a good car period.

I'm thinking that Nissan wanted it in the game as a promotional tool. Doesn't really matter if you use it or not, they just want it in the game and make you aware of it.

As for electric cars killing motorsport, I don't agree. When Jay Leno was on Top Gear with James May, he was saying that electric cars, particularly the hydrogen fuel cell powered Honda Clarity, could actually be the savior of all the expensive gas guzzlers in his garage. You drive the Clarity all week, and then you put it in the garage, and then on the weekends you have fun with your MG or whatever.

You're still going to have gas powered engines in auto racing, I don't see that changing. However the car you drive to the track is probably going to change.

I don't have the money I have 8 euro but it wants 10

Maybe this will turn you around on "electric" cars. At the very least hydrogen fuel cell technology.

Hydrogen requires large ammounts of electricity to produce ( to separate it from oxygen ). So again it's an interesting technology but untill we can produce clean electricity it's no better than a economical straight four. That bimmer's probably more fun than a Leaf though.

Anyway I don't mind the Leaf being part of the DLC and I understand Nissan wanting the PR. But I probably wont drive it more than once or twice.

I think they are hated on just because they get too much hype.

Manufacturers say: SILENT DRIVE
Reality: there is road and wind noise, but you can hear it better now
Common complaints: jeez it is supposed to be silent but it makes so much stupid noise

Manufacturer says (esp. tesla): Snappy power
Reality: More low end torque no hp change
IRL reaction: more instant force into the seat.
Common game complaint: It feels heavy and slow like a regular car. And i cannot even mod it11!!11

The electric cars get a bad rap
And so do any other generaliz-able things, like FFs
I dont find my matrix XR to be slow or boring, people just lump it with others like any econobox even if it has an additional 50+ odd horsepower over a typical matrix or comparable car

I find nothing wrong with the leaf, but in a game i cannot get the full experience of any of it, so why not have some fun in other cars.

This car has a stunning interior, I'm using it as my snow cruiser.

I've been a petrol head my whole life and don't think i'm about to change that anytime soon, will i try the car in the game? sure why not. Would I trade my real car a LS1 holden for one? errr no lol. If you put 20" wheels and 245 tyres on it you would get such bad battery life haha.

I can appreciate this, and I get the feeling that Toyota did that with the FT-86.... but if this is the case, and it really is a promotional item, then instead of making us pay for it they should just drop it in our garages like they did with the Toyota.
