It's ugly, heavy and uninspiring. admittedly a lot of cars in GT5 are the same. 500 only appeals to me due to the abarth versions, which aren't in the game :grumpy: presumably it's there to compare with the new one. :guilty:

Electric cars don't work anyway. Hopefully though they will eventually but at the moment they don't! They claim to be green but the environmental cost of lithium batterys is high, they have to transport heavy cars with heavy batterys so require more total energy than a lighter petrol/diesel car. They don't have the range, and charging takes a long time, and puts a greater strain on existing electricity requirements. Which may come from questionable sources.

If they can solve the battery issue then they may well be viable, but there's got to be alternatives, also why isn't there a Hydrogen powered car in GT5 if they've included hybrids? though i should probably keep quiet about that as at the moment i don't think i want one in game.

pretty much you got it right. i have a saying "if it does not pollute, then it is not a machine".

cars have to be powerful, produce noise similar to music. if they are not capable to do that.... then it is boring and have no "life".

not a fan of the Leaf.

I would have preferred a TVR Sagaris.

Dude take a flight over to Europe and be prepared to be overwhelmed by the massive difference in vehicles you see on the road.

Basically Europe = A LOT of small economical vehicles
USA/Canada = Gas gusseling SUVs, cars, Pick-Ups

In other words USA has a long way to go to clean up their act.

Yeah true, but american historically was always all about big, powerful machines. Didnt europe historically embrace sub compacts from the get go? Could be wrong, maybe you could fill me in?

I get goosebumps still everytime i hear an F1 car driving. Like that F1 "wing" sound. "Wing" "woosh" however you want to classify it ha

Well the distances travelled in Europe are mostly much smaller than a regular journey in the US and Europe has more narrow city areas and crowded and more winding roads which may also explain why cars in Europe have always been generally smaller and perhaps better handling than US cars (since there wasn't much need for cornering abilities).
The biggest difference is the price of gas though, if Americans had to pay the same for petrol as Europeans it would be filled with small cars.

There's your answer, why is it so wrong to love gas powered cars? This generation has been raised to think they are evil and that they are killing the planet. We have come a long way from the gas guzzling monsters of the 70s, today's modern engines are 100 times cleaner and more efficient.
If you are so concerned about the eviroment just think about the eviromental impact of a Prius wich is bigger than that of 2 regular compact cars.

The argument that hybrids are dirtier to make than a regular car is becoming less true every year. Technology advances, it doesn't wait around.

And I think you're having an over reaction to people's preference to the hybrid. A lot of people buy them because of manufacturer or government rebates/tax incentives.

And even if engines are cleaner than engines of past, the atmosphere is still hurting.

Yes the athmosphere is still hurting, but cars are not the number 1 enemy anymore.(on responsibly regulated countries that is). I do understand that the hybrid technology is an evolving sciense, but people need to see this facts before they condemn the petrol engines. Like I said on the other thread, people buy hybrids for the wrong reasons, not because they care about the enviroment. What happened to the hydrogen powered cars? Are the manufacturers still developing that technology? What about biodiesel? Hybrids are a very clever and smart concept but unfourtunately the execution of the concept is not yet ideal.

ll What happened to the hydrogen powered cars? .

They are basically a moving bomb, and i know they are expensive to produce. I had one at work on a 6 month lease, the car was valued at like 500k if i recall correctly

I've always found the slowest cars in the game to be very entertaining and I don't expect the Leaf to be an exception, had tons of fun with the Prius.

That coin goes both ways.

One thing I still haven't seen answered, even though it was already posed, is why I should care about how many virtual pollutants my virtual cars put out when I'm virtually racing them.

^ 👍

Same here. 👍 Though, I had more fun running the Prius into walls and flipping it rather then racing it. :) Interesting cornering abilities it has. I will definitely have to do a comparison against the Leaf once released!

I really like the Tesla, nice and smooth. Fun on the ring

I've always preferred the slower cars.
It just gets annoying listening to people complain that a car is worthless because it doesn't have 900bhp and doesn't have a specific emblem on the hood.

Those "slow" cars are always a pleasure to drive.
EX.
With tuning, the base model Vitz handles better then most of the supercars I have driven.

Most everyone seems to forget that to power the battery charger on all these electric vehicles, we have to burn coal or use energy from a nuclear power plant, so the carbon foot print on these "clean green" cars is not so clean after all. Plus the battery packs are still a hazard waste and the hybrids and electric vehicles have a huge bank of them, not just the small one found in your normal vehicle. The extra cost and amount of time it takes to break even on a hybrid makes them usless as a money saving device for better MPG, as it usually takes 8-10 years on paper to cover the price premium in the small amount of added fuel economy. plus the battery packs have a 5-7year life span IF your lucky and the battery pack itself cost almost 3/4 to as much as the car cost new, so if you ever have to replace that battery pack, big $$$ are involved. Better fuel economy can be had just by making everything direct injected and the cars lighter as a whole, that way we can make the best of what we have. The cafe standard of 2015 is a complete joke and will kill the auto industry as we know it, you can say goodbye to all your cheap prices as the extra cost involved to manufacture vehicles to fit that standard will be passed onto the consumer. People should research the big picture before jumping on a "lean green" bandwagon, because if we continue down the path were on, we will be paying for the mistakes with our wallets.

But that doesn't mean hybrids should be abandoned all together; Karl Benz got flak for his car but yet look it what his car did for automotive history. True, hybrids are not the best answer, but they are a solution to a current problem many people are facing: fuel prices.

As for clean energy, it's not really gonna happen. Chemistry is hard to defy.

That coin certainly can go both ways, but how often does technology wait around instead of advancing?

As for virtual pollution, if PD modeled that, I don't know if I'll be impressed or flabbergasted.

By the way, doesn't the Leaf have a beeping noise when reversing? If nothing else, I'm looking forward to testing that :P

^ My mind will be blown if they actually put that in the game.

Just an FYI all hybrid batteries must be recycled. That's what I do for a living is recycle batteries and we are building a new plant just for the Lithium car batteries. The material we get from them we then sell back to the people the made the batteries.... The circle of life. Initial cost are high for the batteries yes, but most Lithium and Nickle batteries are recycled and the metals are used again. So there is much less mining going on than you think.

I don't like electric cars because then I can't have this:

Are you people really afraid of change? That one day the ICE will be replaced with electric equivalents?

I like the electric and hybrids and hope they add more RM.:sly:

Electric cars will eventually kill everything I like about motorsports. The smell, the sound, the excitement.

Makes me wonder what car you drive IRL or if you're just brainwashed by the petrol conglomerate to believe that garbage :\

I hate it not because of what it is, but because time was spent working on a car I'll never care to use for anything in this game.

Oh no he's using real english words.. that's so funny let's try to hurt his feelings.

You'd do well to not refute something you claim is "garbage" by spouting what basically amounts to a ridiculous conspiracy theory.

Just Saiyan.

No, not by any means! I think it needs further development before being put in the showroom, that's all.
Now fully electric cars on the other hand are a totally different story and a waste of time and resourses.
