What did you learn to drive in?

I had the pleasure of Learning to drive in the new Hyundai i30. What about you?

As a learner I've taken lessons in a Mazda 3 and my Dad takes me for drives in his Ford BA Falcon. Oh and I have driven my Mum's Holden Astra once... around the Mt. Panorama circuit but that's it. Just putting that out there. :sly:

I had the unfortunate luck to learn on this

AND the Awesome luck of Learning on this...

However neither was a Manual so i never learned stick. i plan on buying one one day tjough a junk stick and drive it everywhere and learn the "just get in and do it" way

That GrandAm i hated though it was my first car and though it was new (well, about 3 years old) i just never liked driving it, it hamdled like a dream but it never fit me at all. i felt out of place, like i needed a sports car. The bird though would be around still if my mum hadnt taken it out drunk driving and hit a tree @#$%&^&*!!!!!!

It was a diesel. :(

I still don't own a drivers licence. :guilty:

I spent a grand doing lessons and then didn't bother with the test. I took my MC licence, bought a bike and got insured on my mates cars to drive to the shops on my provisional when they came to visit. :)

I learned on the,

1996-1999 Gen Mercury Stable(Driver ED car, Horrible fake wood interior, steering wheel automatic stick was annoying, Amazed this car had a 200HP 3.0L V6 in it, 4 speed auto, Everyone looked odd at me when I said that my family only owned manuals at the time):

2004 Ford Ranger Manual shift 5-Speed(truck is in tan color with a truck bed cap):

2001 Volkswagon Jetta(Base model with 5 speed shift manual, dark green color):

1999 Honda Civic(Base model 5 speed shift, stock with a aftermarket air filter, thankfully my brother was not much of a ricer):

Tried getting used to manual shift but I can't keep up with it. Maybe another day if I ever have the money I'd buy a spare car to practice manual shifting(my first shift is the only bad shift and I have trouble with keeping up with traffic so I'm a automatic driver for now).

I'd call this as a real life driving learner(rarely did driving on the street with the manuals. The Jetta I did drive around the block) as I drove it with my driver's license,

2001 Ford Escort(4 speed auto, bought at 52K for a small price of $2.1K USD, Engine blown at 62K after 10 months, picture below is in better condition than my escort was, bad car!):
2001_Ford_Escort-2.jpg

Current Driver's car(Knew how to drive after the Escort and thank god for this car, reasonable car to drive),

2003 Chevrolet Malibu(180HP 3.1L V6 with the best 4 speed auto box I've ever owned, decent interior to live with, roomy interior and very roomy trunk),
chevy_malibu_front_view_by_nlck09-d3byuzz.jpg

Did most of my driving instruction in a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier.

car-R.jpg

During the period after drivers' training and before I actually got a license, I drove a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser.

2002ChyrslerPTCruiser2.jpg

My actual first car was a 1990 Chevy Blazer:

DSCN0098.jpg

And the first car I bought on my own and the one I still drive, a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2:

:D

My dad plans on it being my first car too! Although he wants me to learn some more on this car.

If I never post back, you know what happened. :scared:

I learned on my mom's 2001 PT Cruiser, it was a rather interesting thing to drive to say the least.

Then my dad bought a 1995 Plymouth Neon for like $200 from an auction because he said if I was going to crash, a $200 car wouldn't be the end of the world. The car was a 5 speed with a bad second gear. It was loud, most of the stuff didn't work and it handled like the suspension was made of cottage cheese. But it had a radio, sunroof and still started and ran. Made me appreciate newer, nicer cars quite a bit more.

I would still drive the PT on family outtings and when we road tripped, along with my dad's old Ford Econoline cargo van. But the Neon was it when it was just my dad or mom and I.

What did you learn to drive in?

Everything I've ever driven - I'm still learning to drive.

The cars I drove before getting the licence that allows me to learn without supervision were a Mk3 Golf 1.4 and a Mk1 Mondeo 2.0.

I learned on my parents old 1995 Nissan Altima (5 speed) for the most part while on my learner's permit.

I think the driver's ed car was a Hyundai Accent.

Since Im still learning...
Sedan deville
Gmc jimmy
Camry
Corolla x 3
Impreza 2.5
Civic si
Wrx Sti

Quite a list but quite a lot of learning as well.

Everything I've ever driven - I'm still learning to drive.
Very good point that most drivers seem to forget. I remember my dad saying to me, "Driving lessons are only to show you how to pass your driving test. Once you've passed, then you learn how to drive."

I learned to pass a driving test in a Vauxhall Corsa C, 1.7 DTI. Pretty easy to drive and not too easy to stall :)

My driving instructor's cars were...

For the first few months, this delight of a Corsa 1.2:
bsmvauxhallcorsa.jpg

Complete with businessmen shaking hands - made it quite difficult to see.

Then this awful thing with a completely joyless 1.4:
peugeot-207-0-black-hatchback-s-16c11f758fca0cb4eaffa4782b241063-m2.jpg

Hated that far more than the Corsa, which is an achievement. I'm relatively certain the steering wheel was in no way attached.

The Cereal Box.

Took lessons in a multitude of cars: A 2006 Toyota Corolla Ascent that I hated, a 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer ES which I hated, and a 2008 Mazda 2 Maxx that I loved, and SIC EM, our old 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX complete with mods which of course, I loved. Passed my VORT test in a 2007 Kia Optima.

Learned to drive and manual in a 1988 Acura Integra. You could move the stick around so much when you were in any particular gear that you had no idea what gear by looking at it.

Got my license and did half my permit driving in a 2004 Mustang V6

43722597-640.jpg

And LOVED driving my mom's 5 speed Escape

First Car:

That's actually not far from what it looked like either (on the right). Keep in mind that this is not because I'm old. Got my license in 1996, 35 years after the car was sold.

Great car to learn to drive on. Forgiving clutch, two-tone paint (not as bad as the picture, but not good either) helped cover up dents (so did the rust). Cheap parts all around.

The only downside was safety (and lack of air conditioning):
- No seatbelt pretensioners
- No airbags
- No brakes (at least nothing to speak of)
- The gas tank is located approximately right above your lap....

Also could have used a tach.

1998 1.1 Renault Clio when I did some lessons in 2007, then a new Fiat Panda 1.1 last year.

Panda was okay, decent visibility which was more than useful. Though so very gutless and a bit limiting on space for someone of my "bulk".

Agreed with Famine though, we're all still learning.

I had lessons in a Vauxhall Corsa, I think it was a 'merit' 1.2... god how I hate Corsas... then the rest of the time I would drive my mum's Rover 214GSi for practice.

The car I first drove after getting my permit, a 2000 Daewoo Lanos:

Daewoo-Lanos1.jpg

1997 Ford Explorer:

My first proper car, a 1999 Mercury Sable:

2004_Honda_Accord_640.jpg

2004 Accord EX

Awesome car to learn in.

One of these...

1997 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport

To get used to driving bigger cars, it also isn't that bad of a thing to drive.

2004_ford_focus_zts_23163873.jpg

2004 Focus ZTS
And the car I own (not this one exactly) but close enough.

Learned to drive in the 2010 Camry (during the time of everyone panicking about the acceleration problem...) in the ever beautiful...green.

2010-toyota-camry-british-racing-green-color.jpg

And the other car at the driver's ed school was the Saturn Aura, sadly so much better to handle than the very light powersteering of the Camry. X_X

Mostly learned to drive in my mom's 2003 Toyota Camry with the permit. Hated it...

But speaking of learning cars, I spotted this about 2 or 3 years ago on the way home from visiting family. It's somewhere else in Maine...

Still enraged over the fact that driving schools don't teach us to drive manuals! D<

Wait, what?

The only time I've driven an Aura was to move the neighbor's for her...

I've not felt steering that stupid light ever. So my question is... How light is the steering in the Camry? O_O
