Whilst waiting for the new Speed Champions to arrive in the mail I built the Fast and Furious R34. Looks pretty decent, I enjoyed it.

Also, how do you all feel about instruction manuals? I for one think they're a pain to store and would not mind one bit if Lego dropped them in favor of digital manuals, but offer them in physical form for those who want them.

I have 3 boxes full (3rd not pictured below) and they weigh a ton and a half. I'm contemplating selling them off or giving them away.

I've kept most of the boxes. So I just keep the instructions in the boxes.

Ah yeah, I used to keep all boxes until it because impossible to store them. I now only keep large boxes for the biggest sets and even those ones I flatten to store.

I'm not keen on using digital manuals, but for something that only gets used once it would make more sense from a space and environmental point of view, and I'd probably get over myself eventually.

If you don't sell them individually, because that is a lot of effort, just stick them on eBay as a job lot and sell them in one hit. You could probably get a couple of Speed Champions sets out of the proceeds.

I've been building using a tablet with instructions digitally lately and the only issue I have sometimes is the colors of the scanned instructions being off or hard to see. Not ideal, but I've been hearing rumors about Lego going all digital as they do more environmentally friendly things. I'm all for it, honestly.

I'd definitely sell the boxes in a lot, may even ask my local unofficial Lego shop if they want them.

@SPhilli911 funny you mention this now, I had been storing my relatively meagre selection of manuals in the plastic storage box along with my disassembled sets but I took them out so I can fit more plastic and less paper earlier today but have no idea what to do with them now. I want to keep hold of them for my son because it feels more special than a PDF, but I have also been collecting PDF instructions and storing them on my Google Drive just in case.

And yeah, some of their digitised manuals are bad... Although as someone who often ends up building after dark in rooms lit with warm white bulbs, it's often easier for me to discern colours on a backlit screen instead of paper. Finding the right bricks is a different story, the piñata was a really tough one to get right!

Let me guess, swapped the pink colored pieces? That's what I did with the piñata set.

I could take or leave physical instructions; generally prefer to have them with older sets for the "authentic" building experience they would've had when new, but for builds of any vintage it can get a little annoying having to find a place on a table or lap for a book to stay open. It is really convenient that Lego has a full library of scanned instructions for pretty much every set though, and I give them credit for making it a free resource anyone can access if they want/need it. Smaller sets also make much more sense to produce digital instructions for since it can feel like a bit of a waste only having a one sided fold-out piece of paper. And who knows, maybe it could lead to a resurgence of official alternate builds since Lego can just upload them online like they did with the Galaxy Explorer last year.

Somewhat related, but I've noticed that a lot of older manuals had horrible color matching with their parts. trans-Neon Orange and the Grays are the worst offenders that come to mind, as orange typically came out closer to hot pink while both Light and Dark Grays are a shade lighter than the actual pieces. I'd chalk the latter up to the designers wanting to differentiate them from White and Black pieces on the ink, but it's still a bit annoying to go hunting for a Light Gray piece only to realize I needed a Dark Gray one.

(For reference, the "pink" studs and cone in this image are actually Trans-Neon Orange :boggled:)

You know, I don't even know which colour it was I was getting mixed up with, there were some 1x2 plates inside it and I got almost all of them wrong and only realised when I held the wrong pieces up against the correct curves and could see they were subtly different even in the dim yellow light so by the time I finished they were all hidden inside it! I think there were pink, salmon pink and yellow pieces that all looked pretty much the same in that light until you held them next to each other, it took forever to build that little guy.

I'm expecting the other two sets I ordered to arrive on Friday, can't wait!

Edit: the package was misaddressed and rejected by my neighbour but the courier claims it was delivered, so I guess I'll see how good Bricklink is at resolving issues! Paid with PayPal so I would hope (I have just assumed so far) that if I don't get my stuff I can elevate the dispute to them. The seller did at least admit they misaddressed it and it wasn't my fault.

Last autumn I bought two Speed Champions Ferrari 512Ms, one for me, one as a birthday present for my nephew. Come his birthday someone else beat me to it and it was too late to return it, so tonight I built it as a test livery/plain body version.

Which is a fancy way of saying I left the stickers off.
That looks pretty good without the stickers on. I'm the same, from the Speed Champions sets i have, only one of them has had the stickers applied.

Same here. I wasn't going to get all of them, but i couldn't resist. Having said that, i don't have the R34 Skyline, just the new March releases.

There's some great new parts in those sets, and all of them have been quite fun to build. Aesthetically the McLaren F1 LM, is my favourite, but that's closely followed by the Porsche 963 LM car (I love how low that thing is).
Also speaking of Porsche, i decided I'd revisit a MOC i started around three years ago now. I think the Ferrari's wheel arches make it look better than it was. I'm unsure about exactly what model of Porsche it is/trying to look like, but I'm leaning towards it looking a bit like a 964 or RUF of some description.

Probably not worth the money with the low piece count and giant hull pieces and that it probably aimed toward kids more, but I got this Ocean Exploration Ship for no real reason. Just like that "supporting National Geograpic explorers" part on the box I think that's neat.

This is why I don't like City sets, it's a shame though because there are loads of nice looking sets with great play features (relevant because I keep my son in mind when I buy Lego now, but so far haven't really got anything with play features - I'll let him decide what we should get when the time comes) but I just can't bring myself to buy them when the Creator sets would have you brick build features like that. I mean, look at this beauty, which is high up on my want list:

The B and C builds look great too.

Unrelated, I'm looking forward to this as well, if I didn't already have the Nebulon-B I might be less into it but that was a fun build and a good size so I expect this'll be much the same.

Went to the Lego store after work with a £15 budget in mind, enough to buy another cup o bricks but there wasn't anything particularly exciting there, considered getting a cup full of only trans red 1x1 round plates (as I guess they're called) or trans orange 1x1 round tiles but decided against it because that's pretty dumb. I wanted to get the new Creator 3-in-1 unicorn too but they didn't have it, considered stretching the budget a little to get the Paul Walker R34 but it just doesn't look like an R34 to my eye.

So I left without buying anything, maybe I'm cured!

Also I may be moving soon, haven't sealed the deal yet but I've been packing my models down into bags, it's pretty slow going when you need to match the contents of numbered bags. Weirdly fun though, I enjoyed unbuilding the Death Star trench run diorama and Tallneck. Just got the Aviation Adventures yellow monoprop and UCS Slave I to go. 13 bags, that one. Yikes. It'll all be going up in my parents' loft for now and the cost of furnishing a flat is going to nix the monthly Lego budget for a bit but I'm sure I'll carve a bit out somehow. Speaking of which I really need to try to finish the Muppets minifig collection..

Edit: got two more Muppets and my second duplicate of Rowlf, his sheet music confuses me every time because it's the same piece as the lid of Statler's laptop. I've also just realised I may have thrown a Statler back in the pile because it had a 1x2 tile in it that only Beaker and Statler have, I forgot about the latter though. So yeah, just Kermit and Statler left, but I felt up every single one of the 30-odd packets they have and only bought three - I'm going to get a reputation if I don't complete the set quickly! Have to say, though, £3.50 here and there doesn't bother me but if you consider I've had, what, four duplicates now (Janice, Rowlf x2 and Miss Piggy) it may well just be easier and not significantly more to buy a complete set off of BL. Incidentally the last two figs would cost me £13 to buy from BL, I haven't worked it out yet but if I do that it may well have been cheaper to buy a complete set in the first place!

I recently found out about set 5004590 Bat-Pod, and now I sort of wish I hadn't... It was "released" in 2015, but only 1,000 sets were made; 750 for the US, 250 for Europe, and the only way to get a set was to win one in a Lego VIP competition.

It's the same scale as the 76023 and latterly 76240 Tumbler sets, which I have both of, so it was inevitable I was going to get a Bat-Pod somehow.

On eBay used sets go for around £130-140... for 338 pieces. And those aren't even original sets, they're just put together from Bricklink. So if eBayers can do that and make a profit, surely I can get the parts for less than what they're charging...?

Fortunately the set didn't include any unique parts, but it did require several rare parts in the appropriate colour. Some were £5-6 each for a single piece. In the end it came to just shy of £100, for 6 separate orders, including a few extra bits to make the minimum order from a couple of sellers.

IMG_20230311_184019.jpg

The tyres (not pictured) were £7.50 a go, but I expected that. The wedges at the top were just over £1 each. The shields, £4 and £5.33 each from 2 different sellers. And those little 1x2 slopes on the left? £2 each! Almost certainly worth their weight in gold. Or cocaine.

£100 for a 338 piece set is an eye watering pence-per-part ratio so I've not worked it out. If you do feel free to keep it to yourself :) I could've saved a little if I'd combed through my own Lego, but any parts I already have were only a few pence each, and I had neither the time nor inclination.

IMG_20230311_180934.jpg

First step: emptying about 100 plastic bags.

Luckily the major Lego sites had the parts list, and some kind hearted soul had scanned the instructions and made them freely available online.

I can see why it didn't make it into production as aside from the core part the rider would sit over, it's remarkably flimsy. I don't have an issue with that as I don't think it would be possible to improve without spoiling the look, and this scale of models ought to be looks over playability.

Bought the Speed Champions DB5 a few weeks back, and whilst it's not the best looking SC set and I have almost no MOC experience it was fairly straightforward to modify into convertible and (with a bit more thought and effort) shooting brake versions.

IMG_20230406_180844.jpg

That the original set doesn't look that great a) ment they were cheaper than the other SC sets released at the same time and b) made me feel better about not getting the others as accurate as I would've liked.

I used parts in both from the Covette C8.R which I never built, having bought that set solely for the C2, and then used the roof parts from the cabriolet to make the larger shooting brake roof, along with a rear window and a few other bits from Bricklink.

IMG_20230406_181028.jpg

Yes, on the back of the shooting brake that's 1 sticker stuck over 2 pieces. Sue me.

IMG_20230406_181004.jpg

The B pillar and roof support were the hardest bit, and I'm not overly happy about it, but I couldn't think of a better option. Suggestions welcome!

This is what I love about Lego, imagine if you could just buy some paint and make an exact copy of a Rembrandt... I mean, OK, Lego models are nowhere near that sort of level but it's like the Nebulon-B I pirated, £120 for the only complete set on Bricklink or £60 if I just buy the pieces. The only thing I couldn't get was the sticker and there ain't no way I'm buying a 4x4 sticker for £60, I'd sooner just modify the base to remove the plate the sticker goes on (but I didn't, I should do that). Or the 75050 B-Wing, I did buy the stickers for that and built it out of used pieces which I actually kinda dig, gives it a certain patina, I also like the idea of giving used pieces a new life like that.

Unrelated, a while ago I bought parts to make a cheaper spin on the stand that's included with the Creator 3-in-1 Supersonic Jet, I forgot to buy a round plate with an axle hole so it's not very stable yet, I'm sure it will be fine though. As I don't have anything else assembled right now I tried it with my Planets series Death Star:

16808187031995556771884203219509.jpg

It's very simple but I think it looks great tilted off-axis like that (which was a happy accident), it's inspired me to make an orrery-like diorama with some tiny X-Wings and TIE fighters attached, maybe the same design as in the Trench Run diorama but I'd prefer smaller if possible. Only thing is with the move possibly happening next week I'm going to have no money and little time to spare on that for some time.

To bring this post full circle, this came with a TIE Fighter (maybe an Interceptor) but I lost it years ago, I should buy the pieces to rebuild it!

@Roo those DB5 mocs look fantastic. I especially like the convertible. I think the Aston is a great set, and useful for parts with all the shiny metallic coloured tile pieces it comes with.

Had a little play around with another new moc earlier today. I've had the scooter piece/part for a while, but never did anything with it up until now. It's a bit of a weird one, but i think it looks okay in the flesh. Did a couple of renders of it, as i'm still waiting to build it in the correct colours, (can be built in red or lime green).

Just bought the Lego Icons classic Land Rover Defender 90. And just saw this announced for next month. My wallet can only take so much abuse... :boggled: The glow in the dark headlights are a very cool touch on this new Peugeot 9X8 set.

I'm not a huge fan of some of the more recent (and v. expensive) cars, but this one looks pretty awesome.

Added bonus is that they could use those glow-in-the-dark rods for a Simpsons set based on Homer's workplace 💡

What I want to know is if they had this technology all along, why haven't they done glow in the dark lightsabers yet? Maybe they have, I dunno.

Packing up stuff to move out on Thursday, I found a big cup of Lego pieces I didn't know I had as well as the minifig from the speed champions Camaro, no idea where the fire extinguisher went though. Apparently it's very on brand for me to have random bits of Lego stashed amongst my other belongings, I mean there's a small mound of extra pieces from my older sets somewhere.

Yeah I'm definitely picking this up as well, especially since it will be in the same price bracket as the F1 car.

I want the new X-Fighter too.

And Rivendell.

God Lego gonna cost up a bit this beginning of the year and I already got the UCS Razorcrest. Waiting for rivendell to get a bit cheaper tho.

Forgot to preorder this, realised it launched earlier this week and now it's on back order, but as it's Star Wars day I decided to order it anyway just to get the mini X-Wing GWP. Delivery is due "before 30/7/23", good thing I'm patient then... Come to think of it I might have a desk or shelf to put it on by then.

This meant I had to confront the fact that I haven't been able to log in to my Lego store account to accrue the VIP points so I've emailed their support, I have a feeling they'll tell me my account was closed because I never used it (I vaguely remember being told an account was going to be closed if I didn't do anything about it, I wonder if it was this one!) which would be a shame because I've spent probably close to £200 with Lego directly since January.

Edit: just Googled it, VIP points are 5% of what you spend. Bearing in mind I found £10 on the street a month ago it would just be karma if those points are gone like a fart in the wind!

Edit not worth another post: I got my VIP thing sorted, apparently my account had disappeared but because I could find my old VIP number on an order from 2019 they let me make a new account and transferred the points across. I have yet to work out if I have as many points as I should, but their customer service was pretty great.

I gotta call the local Lego store, I simply couldn't stop by today, had too much going at work. So my goal is to walk out with just the X-Wing and not that Peugeot hotness. Wish me luck

Update: I was strong and I only got the X-Wing. That set came with some amazing freebies. A 300 piece Death Star II, a small x-wing poly bag set and a really nice Death Star 'coin' and hologram cover. "Most impressive."

Not gonna lie, I really want that. Haven't seen how much they're selling for on BrickLink but from what I could tell, if you're not bothered by the sticker it should be cheap and easy enough to buy in pieces.

My order that was due "before 30/7/23" arrived yesterday, I think they can afford to be just a little more optimistic! I too got the X-Wing polybag.
