I find the double clutch makes me competitive, can I have that for adiscount. I mean really, buy a car and.drive. this is just ridiculous. There are plenty of good cars

Yeah I know...you got a boost from Diabolic. I should have stayed inside to get the boost from you but I was planning on taking the turn full speed. It's all good though. That was a fun race.

I bumped him because he covered my line. I had no intention of putting him alongside you. Still, he should have allowed the corner entry to you.

I'm certainly leaning to a hot hatch... Gotta see how it'll shake out in the long run tho. I loved the flickability of it.. Had my bb at 2/10, and it was sweet.. :)

I ran the 206 at 2/8 BB or 3/7 depending on track all season long

-----------------

A quick review.

Third place was a letdown. I bagged the first race, but too much. I stopped with 10 second left on timer thinking just garris would pass me and then dabney and geezer past me. 3 points down the drain because not paying attention. Cote d Azur was CRAP. Just like Suzuka, I qualified top 2 then magically started last. I battled back to 5th, but the lead group had already distanced themselves. I took damage in traffic and drove upset the rest of the way. one of two races I took damage this time round--a vast improvement. I got 7th or 8th, but I had a top 2-3 car. I'm actually still upset about this. Whats the point of qualifying if its broken. Just like in 450s now. I dont run any laps and I start top 3-4 90% of the time. Anyway. I spent the extra money I gained on a racing muffler, but I would have been only 1 second slower and still a favorite to win Sarthe. My strategy was another winning strategy (yes, there can be multiple) but the starting grid screw up on Cote was the nail.) Its just not reasonable to expect me to conserve tires on that track in my FF while have to pass 7 cars I qualified ahead of just to make it within 10 seconds of the leaders. Season 1 we ran parade laps and made sure we were always in the right order. I'd like to see that reincorporated again. 3 straight races I started last. Not good.

All things said though, I'm really starting to see great strides in my composureand ability. Obviously I will be forever at a disadvantage using the automatic tranny/DS3 combo, but still I'm please with how well I'm racing. I'm taking a lot more chances in the corners and unlike the first season, I am passing folks when my car is quicker rather than wait for mistake to come that never do. My advice, assume the guy in front will never make a mistake then plan your way around them. I had just two accidents all season that were just me alone not paying attention and they both were on Sarthe while 30+ seconds ahead. I'm looking forward to next season, but first the large task of winning tonight. It will be a battle, but the MG was over a second faster over the 206 in my qualifying. Should be a dandy

Yep, that's what happened...

Link to the poll is in this thread.

Seems close so far. I think the people who oppose this are underestimating how important straight line speed will be next season. It isn't a matter of wanting the upgrade for free, it's a matter of the cars being equal/fair.

I opposed it because I know how important straight line speed is and the car I'm choosing maxes stock tranny in the 180s. If I was a miata driver, I'd be for it, but my online yellow clad driver has pride enough to not be in that bucket.

@Chuyler--Oh, and it is what happened. I'm drafting you and you pass Pyxen. Before I can get past, he turns into me and I hit him. This was the only outcome possible...

It'd be nice if people voted with the intention of making the field more equal, not on what suits their car the best...

My top choice maxes in the 170s.

How silly of me to vote for what works best for me. That never happens....except in every public election one can vote in. You think it will even things out, but in the end, it will make certain cars a lot better than others. My car is FF and when I'm chewing threw tires, I'll be glad knowing at least I can be quicker than the nimble FR/MR. Thats what evens out the field. If you give the little cars a tranny, they get better.

If you care about fair, how about everyone use an automatic transmission? Then tuning and short shifting is nullified and the field is even more balanced? I heard once: Stand behind your words otherwise they'll run you over. If people want to be truly equal, we should vote for automatic transmissions and no FC Trans. That way the game is deciding everyones shifting and top speed. Less variables in the equation always raises the probability of supposing the correct answer. Any math major will tell you that.

Yep, that's what happened...

I'm glad you agree.

My Primera was limited by its gearbox and destroyed tires. It isn't a problem concerning drivetrains. The Primera could've easily done 170. It continued to pull hard all the way up to the red line in 5th gear. Additionally the gearbox only allows the car to reach a certain speed, the car still needs the power to get there in a timely manner. The MR cars generally have less power than the FFs.

It wasn't a big factor last season because of the tracks. But this year we have Fuji, the Nordschleife, Suzuka, Daytona and la Sarthe. I just think it'll become a problem.

Regarding A/T, the gear ratios will remain the same whether you use it or not, it's a null point. I honestly think driving A/T is on par with using TCS. It slows you down and is basically just a crutch.

Edit: Sorry if that sounded like an insult. I have no problem if someone uses A/T, especially if they drive with the DS3.

It did appear callous, but apology accepted nonetheless. However, this all is a silly argument to me because this season, with the amount of high speed tracks, people ought know which cars not to pick. If they dont, I dont see why we need to gift them transmissions so they can be more equal. We all have the opportunity to pick cars that work with these particular tracks. We shouldnt feel obligated to help folks who foolishly pick cars that have no chance merely because they picked them. For instance, Madmax and Dabney both picked Volvos this past season. I have no idea why with the amount of complicated sections on the courses we ran, but they did. We didnt decide to give them 20K extra at the start to even things out, did we? Did anyone honestly think the Volvos would show well? No, but as May says, "You brought the wrong car."

Proper car choice from everyone and we wouldnt need to discuss giving transmissions. Everyone should test cars for max speed to Sarthe, but we shouldnt have to tell them. Oh and one more thing to chew on. FC transmissions require tuning as well. Many folks here are passable tuners. I am not one of them. Even if I have an transmission, I have no idea what to do with it except slide the top speed bar and lengthen the final gear. So, what may be trying to make us equal, could create a greater void between casual players and folks with too much time on their hands.

Hopefully you can respect my thoughts. I realize we are on separate sides here and possibly ne'er the two shall meet, but I think if folks spend more time flippin their UCD to find the right cars to test, the whole transmission argument will be moot. Heck, I'll do it for anyone. On the weeknights, I can usually flip 200-300 cars a night. If you are after one car and your excuse is you didnt have time so you settled for a miata or MR2, let me know.

All your points are taken. I really don't have an argument against what you're saying. I think we're both right in a way, and I agree that people need to seriously consider their car choices. My intention was just to make more cars into viable options.

What do you think about lowering the cost of the transmission to something like 7,000 or 5,000 credits?

I dont have an opinion on pricing. No car I have picked has required a transmission and I'm not starting now. :) If you havent found the skyline you need by this weekend, I'll consider sending you mine even though I know of its awesome power

Yep, that's what happened...

Just watched the replay...I wouldn't say that Diabolic had the draft going into that corner.. I clearly got between you two easily on the way up, and took the inside line as we had done many (3 or 4 of 5?) times that race..wasn't that bad of a turn, but it was an agressive line on my part..

Good fun. Off to test now!

Oh, and I think I'm with Garris...should make the FC tranny available for 5K instead of 20K. Not freebie... I didn't upgrade mine this past season, and did fine speed-wise. Like it's been said - there are plenty of good cars, and getting the most out of it is just part of the fun.

Pyxn, i have no quips about your inside line...except that you didnt keep it inside on exit. We should have come out dead even but instead i was tossed into the sand. I should have just sayed inside but i wasnt expecting you to have a boost of speed just before turn in. No hard feelings though, it was a fun race and i made enough mistakes on my own without your help. All three cars look competitve for the first race.

As for the tranny discussion...i voted yes, but i'm heavily leaning toward a reduced price...closer to the price of the other trannys which are effectively useless because what we really want is just a higher top speed for some tracks.

I want to see a variety of cars on the track. When all the submissions come in, i will likely pick something no one else did just for variety.

Sounds like a quip to me! Would you believe FF understeer? ;)

Hah hah, yeah blame it on the FF :)

I actually don't think its really possible to run 2-wide on that turn without incident. The one time we did it earlier in the race you were in the dirt so that's not really a valid case. The car on the inside obviously has rights to the turn according to GTP OLR...but you can't really take the turn at speed from the inside without ending up way wide on exit. If two cars fight for position there, a 3rd car almost always comes up and can make a pass before the corkscrew. I'm actually surprised diabolic didn't get a run on you there, but it looks like he hesitated as I went off track.

Yes, I did. Blame it on ignorance. I happened upon the Wednesday night thread on the Tuesday before the pre-season race, so I picked what I had, the Miata for Wednesday, and the Volvo for Tuesday. I've learned a lot so far and I hope to be more competitive this season. 👍

I actually thought the credit system would make the Volvo a mid-season competitor. It looked fast during the pre-season races but I guess tire wear and corner speeds were the issue. I've never driven the car myself for more than 10 minutes so I really can't comment on whether it is garbage...

...but after driving the MR2 and seeing the MGs place so well, I must say this series will favor cars that have better tire management. Everyone can get straight line power to run similar laps, but corner speeds and drafting tends to neutralize the speed advantage on many tracks.

Next season might not be the case though. The tracks are faster and will allow drivers with power to pull away from those pesky drafters.

It is. No cornering speed. We were close on power, but you left me behind at every turn.
