What specifically does opening up '00 unlock?

Survey completed. Voted 400PP, though technically I think I only need like 392 for what I want to run, but 395 wasn't an option. If it only goes up to 390, maybe you guys would be generous and let someone new to the series run 5PP higher maybe? :) Otherwise I guess I'll go for my second choice and probably spin out a lot, but either way I'm looking forward to joining next season.

If it doesn't go to teams, I'd at least like to have training partners or something, such that the newer drivers can get some help from the experienced ones.

It really depends on the pp chosen, but mygranturismo.net is a great place toi start looking at the list.. Sort by pp.. It seems to be easier. Then you just need to look at MY.

Has anyone had any trouble getting miatas (or other cars) to load in the UCD? My game crashes when I try to view certain cars... :(

Second choice it'll be, Durandal7. ;)

http://www.mygranturismo.net/carlist.php?max_year=2000

Regrettably you can't play with a tag to set max PP. But you can sort on that column. I think &drive=FF, &drive=FR, &drive=MR, or &drive=AWD can also be added.

Keep in mind, the initial PP listed for there isn't always what you'll find in the UCD. All used cars must have an engine rebuild. All new cars must have have 250 miles (to break them in) or be 5 PP less than the limit. At least, that is what we did this season.

I haven't looked at the survey results yet. I will do so in the next day or two. If you haven't filled it out, check the link a few pages back.

We will take a week off so the preseason opener will likely be two weeks from today (or tomorrow)

Just a reminder:

The last race of the season will be tomorrow evening. Huyler (chuyler1) will host. If you are not on his friend's list, you need to get there.

I do hope to make the race, but I don't know how tomorrow will go. I am not in contention for anything, but I would like to avoid losing my position. In theory, I could move up to fifth, though I don't think that is at all likely. I think it is possible to advance one position. My real fight was simply to avoid falling a position.

Good luck. I hope to see you there. Can't wait for the next series.

385pp I've got some interesting choices!!!!afterall its about fun. Gonna be a screamer ill be practicing tonight before MITSUBISHI 450 NIGHT!!!

I really hope it's a loose FR Cujo..that's been entertaining. :)

I glanced at the results but will have to spend some time to compile them. Since I know people are curious about PP level, there were 10 votes for 385pp or less and 7 votes for 390 or more. That pretty much means 385 will be the magic number. Start your car shopping and remember...
* pp is determined after a complete engine refresh
* car must be at least a decade old (2001 or older) to be considered a lemon
* non-pp based performance parts cannot be installed prior to the first race

* car must be at least a decade old (2001 or older) to be considered a lemon

So, this means MY 2001 is eligible?

p.s. I already have 10 cars that I'm interested in. It is a mix of FFs and FRs.

385, and 01-down? Shopping time.

Yup. Stay tuned in the next few days for tracks and other info.

I'm having a bitch of a time finding good cars in the UCD... :(

It's tough. Use the license tests. View the UCD, then load the first test. Don't run the test but click "Next Test" instead. After you've loaded six (or is it eight) tests, go back to the UCD and all the vehicles should be "just in". However, it tends to repeat certain vehicles over and over again for a while. Hit Square to sort them by price, this will help you find the ones at the right PP since they are usually cheaper.

You only need to load five tests to completely cycle your UCD.

If there is something in particular you are looking for, let us know, and we'll keep an eye out for it, too.

There are several in mygranturismo.net that I am interested in. If I don't find them in the next few days, I'll probably ask for help, too.

Wednesday 58.8% 10
Thursday 35.3% 6
Friday 17.6% 3
Saturday 17.6% 3
It looks like we can run a Tuesday and Wednesday series again, and possibly a Monday series. However, I'm not sure how much "Lemons" drivers want to take. I think this season I'm cutting back to one night.

Race Teams
Yes 23.5% 4
No 52.9% 9
Don't care 23.5% 4
Although a good idea, we will not do race teams. With driver's availability, it would handicap any team that has a member that cannot make every race.

Tire Compounds
Keep it the same, one race for each tire compound 47.1% 9
Run 2 races on each tire compound to skip the racing tires 29.4% 6
Other (please specify)
Show Responses 23.5% 2
Although I'm not really a fan of racing tires, the masses have spoken and we'll stick with the current system of upgrading the tire for each race.

Credit Changes
Credits are fine and do a good job of keeping cars competitive 92.3% 12
Less money for top 5 cars 7.7% 1
Less money for lower placing cars 0.0% 0
Other (please specify) 3
Based on the "other" responses and my own personal preferences, I will make some minor tweaks to credits. First off, DNS drivers will get less credits. Missing a race shouldn't give you any advantage the remainder of the season and I think we were too generous. I also think we were too generous handing out 30k to the lower ranks...however I'm not sure if the credits need to change to fix this or the point system.

Points Changes
Keep it the same 20,16,13,11,10,9,8,7,6,5 68.8% 11
Less gap in the top places 20,18,16,14,12,10,9,8,7,6,5 31.3% 5
Other 2
One suggestion was to add a point for pole. Similar to "leading a lap" points, this only helps the fastest car pull away in the points system even further. However it is easier to score (vs watching an hour replay to see who crosses the start/finish in first place as cars enter the pits). Jury is still out on this one. I am going to use this season's standings to experiment with the point system to see if I can get some closer scoring...to keep drivers fighting for every position instead of yielding to get extra cash.

The tentative schedule, based on these results, will be...

Circuito de Madrid (pre season - CS)
Laguna Seca Raceway (CS)
Fuji Speedway (SH)
Autumn Ring (SM)
Nürburgring Nordschleife (SS - time change)
Suzuka Circuit (RH - weather change)
Road Course – Daytona (RM)
Circuit de la Sarthe (RS - time change, maybe weather too)

The selections are based on your votes. The order is based on what would work best for certain tracks. Aside from Autumn Ring and Laguna, all the tracks are going to be very fast. I was hesitant about including Nurburgring since any damage will cost you over a minute...but you voted for it, not me. If you don't know the track well, race your own pace and make the time up on the very long straight....since getting damage in the first sector could cost you minutes as you limp back to pit road.

A faster way to cycle the used cars.

Enter any A spec event.
Start race and EXIT as soon as you see your car, Don't wait for the race to start.
Repeat Five times.

Didn't think that worked...i'll try it though. I thought it was based on tracks loading, not races.

Nope, it works nicely.. Seems the seasonals are quicker to load, too.

That's what I've been doing.. I have a few decent cars, but I'm still on the lookout for good ones.. Like I said earlier, I keep crashing when I try to buy miatas, so I guess I won't be doing that. :P

Have you cleared the GT5 cache on your system? I can't imagine why that particular model would crash GT5.

I'm a bit confused about my budget for upgrades for tonights race. I had 2,050 going into Suzuka, then earned 5k at Suzuka and didn't spend any for Monaco. So that put's me at 7,050. Then I earned another 7.5k at Monaco. So I should have 14,550 to spend for tonight, but my budget says 9,550.

It just looks my Suzuka winnings are missing. Just want to straighten this out so theres no confusion. Sorry for noticing so late.

Sleight, I'm on my phone right now, so it is hard to check, but I'm going to guess that I didn't put down your winnings from Suzuka because I didn't have a part list or chance to view your car. You are probably correct about you balance.

Just did an hour testing session with some 385 or less cars. I used GVE-R as my testing ground because it showcases straight line speed as well as cornering speeds. I can run consistent laps and follow my ghost to know how a car is performing. Some I pushed hard for the times, others not so much but I generally put in about 5 laps and they were within 3 10ths of each other once I got a rhythm going.

1:20.684 Toyota MR2 Spyder '99 -- Just plain fast, but transmission tops out at 143...meaning you'll have to sandbag for the tranny at some point in the season.
1:21.150 Mazda Roadster 1.8 RS '98 -- not as quick as the MR but corners cleaner.
1:21.398 Nissan 240zg '71 -- nice car, but no turbo option.
1:21.480 MG TF160 '03 -- Felt slow compared to the MR2 but is still a decent ride
1:21.643 Hyundai Tiberon Turbulence '99 -- It's an FF but not too shabby
1:21.656 Toyota MR2 '86 -- With a mid rpm turbo to start, this car is still a contender. I'll have to test the SC version later.
1:21.939 Nissan SILVIA Q's AERO (S14) '93 -- Very tall gears, and no turbo option. No thanks.
1:21.950 Eagle Talon Esi '97 -- Add 10 more pp and it could be a good starting point...but might run out of steam at the end of the season.
1:22.134 206 S16 '99 -- Still a decent ride
1:22.286 Honda CR-X del Sol SiR '92 -- Fast out of the final turn, but no torque or corner grip. Might be acceptable given the tracks we plan to run.
1:22.574 G20 '90
1:22.891 280z '78 -- If I couldn't win with it this season, I won't next season either.
1:22.921 Mazda Protege '02 -- Felt unbelievably slow, tall gears and no power.
1:23.645 Mitsubishi Lancer EX 1800GSR '83 -- woof, woof, its a dog.
1:26.077 Alpha Giulia Sprint GTA 1600 '65 -- Fun to drive, but very slow.

** Italic cars were from previous testing session at 375pp...meaning they might still be contenders. I still need to test the 86 MR2 SC, some Miatas, and a few more FFs.

I must have done engine refreshes on a dozen other cars to find out they were over 385pp so that's all I actually got to test.

Have we decided on if we're going to do a race between seasons to come up with a car selection order?

Have we decided on if we're going to do a race between seasons to come up with a car selection order?

We are just going to do what we did last season. Everyone PM car selection. We'll announce them all at once.

Duplicates are okay. I think there is enough variety that we'll still see some variety on the track.

And even though I would bet that between Huyler, Bowtie, and Diabolic, we will see at least two small MRs, I think everyone else has a chance of keeping up with them in the standings if we can just not wreck.

I probably just Schrodingered the chances.

I will go ahead and tell you that I'm not going MR. I will test out some FRs, but I will probably go FF. And I am looking at the Hyundais and the Talon again.

We will probably start new threads on Thursday and announce car selection dates then.

I'd really suggest against going FF. There great at making the driver frustrated. They may seem easier to drive at first, but as the cars get faster they become a real pain in the ass to get around a corner. I'd say a balanced FR is easier to drive than the FFs as soon as we get on Sports tires.

And I'll be testing FRs, but it is much easier, in my mind, to fight understeer than oversteer. With understeer, you just enter the corner slower. I still can get out of the corner fast, and I probably should be following the slow in-fast out paradigm anyway.

I will admit they are a pain on tires. I caught up to Dabney twice at Monaco, only to have my tires give out and I had to pit. I did a 4:32 today at la Sarthe, but after five laps, my tires are already at 50%. I really need to stretch to seven laps.

The problem with oversteer to me is two-fold. I can't feel the car break free, and I can't feel just how fast it is turning. I can't stand to drive without a seatbelt for real just because of how much more I can feel the car through the belt. For real, I do a lot of my driving through tactile feedback that the video game can't give me.

The second problem is poor mechanics for letting me look to the side. The camera is fixed the way the car is facing, not the way the car is traveling.

I'm not good enough, yet, to get a car back under control after oversteer. Besides, people fussed at me for driving like Cujo last season. I proud that I didn't hit anyone else this season.

Next season my goal is to keep the car from hitting the wall.

Another plus side with FR is that you don't see the wall you're about to hit.

By the way, what do you use as an input device?

Dabney, If you mean the network cache at the bottom of options, yeah... Each week before the race.

Is there another one? I might just install the whole game, and see if that helps.

I just got a DFGT before this season. I don't know that it has made me faster, but it has made me more precise through the corners. The biggest help was simply the pedals. The ability to ease into the throttle is very nice.
