I've always felt the switch to the longtail and the added length of exhaust that came with it somewhat ruined the sound of the engine.

Probably due to the (understandable) low speeds he had to go though. Check the long tail out here at Goodwood from 00:32. Sounds amazing.

Nope, still the same, it's missing the "bark" or growl the road car and early GTRs had and turned into a more "normal" shrieking V12. In fact the video showcases it very well, the longtail is not quite on the same octave as the short tail. It's especially evident with the test car Kenny Brack is driving and the FINA Le Mans car as well.
