Looking for a package. You have ~$400-$500 to play with, go. And thanks! :)

Ummm... Well, I think my quest for a wheel is over.

Found a G27 on the bay for $50 shipped.

Nevermind, read the small fine print and it's a refurbished wheel. SON OF A B****! I'm hoping for 2 things:

1) I can get my money back
2) If not, this wheel better last. Let's say they won't issue me a refund. $50 is not too bad of a gamble on a refurbished unit, right?

Let this be a lesson to you all. Don't be an idiot and go ebaying at 4am on a Sunday morning. %^&*( :banghead:

$50 for a refurbished wheel seems like 1 of 2 things.

1) Want to get rid of it.
2) It was cheaply done.

I suppose $50 isn't that much, if it turns out to be a POS, just get a new one. You can still buy one straight from Logitech for $300 + free shipping.

If I had gotten mine for $50, I would've been happy... But, I got it as a gift so I was happy anyways. :p

Hope it works out, make sure to post your thoughts! :)

Well they do provide a 90 day warranty, and free return shipping. So I guess I'm sort of covered for a little bit.

I've had good luck with refurbished goods, especially electronics. I hope my luck will continue?

Now the upside... I haven't really dug into my budget. :)

Do you already have an existing stand/cockpit setup?

If your looking for a stand, this thread will point you in the right direction.

Right now I have a Wheelstand Pro V2. I like it, but the rod in the middle that the wheel sits on, they claim won't get in the way, but it gets in the way. And the mounting point for a shifter of any kind is not in an ideal position.

I do not at the moment. I was going to go the ghetto route and simply use my desk/floor until I find the right set.

I need something that'll be portable, that's why I considered the Fanatec CSL Seat. Are there any other cockpits that are comparable at similar (or less!) price?

Also, you mentioned the shifter mount. I'd like my shifter to be at around thigh level.

Thanks.

For just $300 for the whole thing, that might be a damn good deal. Other stuff that I would compare it too (Gamepod, Playseat, GT Omega) is a little more complex, but a lot more expensive.

🤬 it, I might get one.

Yeah because my room is quite small, so whatever rig I get, I'll be moving it in and out of my room and garage for storage.

Not to mention I'm looking to move by the end of the year. So... Portability is a must for me.

I would spring for the $470 GT Omega basic rig if the shipping costs wouldn't add on an extra $200. :grumpy:

I just moved on Dec. 30 with my G27. Not that bad/difficult. We have a ~60 lb. table, though... It was a pain. We disassembled it in order to get it out the door, but the G27 itself folds up nicely.

Yeah that's why I'm thinking about Ikea'ing my rig for now.

Also, so I actually emailed/requested the ebay seller to refund me the money for the refurbished G27, because I mis-read the posting. I guess it's up in the air at the moment. The seller hasn't responded to me and as it stands, it's a done transaction as far as ebay is concerned.

Again, I'll be VERY happy if this unit works as well as a new one. I've had luck with refurbished electronics before so I hope my luck will continue. On the other hand, it's just $50?

Outside of cars with massive spots of rust, I think it's typically absurd not to buy refurbished. But, then again, I'm the guy who'd like to get a 2015 STi. :p

I was like you once. I bought my MS3 brand new.

If you asked me 3 years ago, I would say buy new. Always and on everything.

Now however, not so much. Mainly because if you truly look, you'll find great examples of used cars. Although I may be biased because I'm looking to get a Honda S2000 AP2 in the future. And used is my only option.

As far as getting used stuff, I may not have had many purchases, but I have helped a few find stuff, and I have a good track record with it.

But I'm that type that would buy an E46 M3 that I just got done test driving even if I can't afford it. I would also like a Ferd Fiesta ST though...

Yeah I sort of see that when you started recommend me stuff that are either at the upper limit of my budget, or beyond it...

I really was trying to stay within $400 maximum, but I am willing to spend the extra for quality, but I don't mind saving a few when I can.

Just so you're aware, some G27 models have some issues in regards to the feedback motors. I bought my G27 back in December last year and while I was testing it out, I always hear a clunking sound whenever feedback is done while I turn right. It actually sounded like it'll break. Fortunately the G27 I bought was brand new so I could RMA it. But since you bought a refurbished one it probably doesn't have a warranty anymore.

As for G27 modding, there's a lot of stuff you can do to it. One of the more popular ones are reverse mounting the pedals to have a GT-style pedals (requires hard-mounting it somewhere), changing the wheel rim (using a rim that's bigger from the default rim will most likely dilute the force feedback), and swapping out the brake pedal spring or changing it altogether (GTEye or Nixim). There's even a mod that lets you stiffen the shifter throw.

They provided me with a 90day warranty.
