It's running discounted for about 50-55, but retail price is 79.99, so expect to see that price in stores (after the initial sale)
The 5 disc special edition which is what we are talking about, as the "Extended Version" (which retails for 39.99) is not going to have the extras the other does. (So why buy it?)

The only thing extra the five disc edition has is an additional National Geographic DVD and some bookend/statue things.

Other than that the four disc edition still will have all the additional footage and additional supplements. If you really want that National Geographic DVD and the statues then you can expect to pay that MSRP of $80.

If you really don't give a crap about National Geographic or some statues then you'll be happier with an MSRP of $40. This set can easily be had for under $30 if you're looking around enough.

Never said you couldn't get it for less than MSRP, as almost everything for sale on Earth is.
All I'm saying is: why settle for less? But if settling for less is your thing....

All I'm saying is I'm saving myself about $40 by not getting some statue/bookend things and a National Geographic DVD. That's $40 I could be spending on something else I'd actually use. Those statue things are of no interest to me. Neither is the National Geographic stuff. I'll still be getting the extras.

I think you guys talking about the 80$ version have got the wrong currency :reallyodd: The four disc is going to be $50 here in Australia which is about $1 over there in America....

The movie is great and so is the series of books...Im reading them now...

I've seen part of this now, and having read the first book prior that I can say that I find what I have seen disappointing.

On the plus side is the fact that they skipped much of the over descriptive nature of the book.

But that is the only major plus. The downsides are:

Acting not as good as I had hoped.

Changes to character intereraction, like who did what and when.

A pace and direction that moved the story along too fast. (the film might have been better as a made for tv mini series). Frodo learns of Strider's "authenticity" as an ally via a letter by Gandalf. Would that really have taken so muh time?

I am not sure about the writing.

There are several inaccuracies.

And there was a kowtowing to political correctness by having Elrond's daughter do stuff she never did.

The book can drag somewhat, but it is better than the movie overall.

I will watch the rest later.
