Still no news on Schuey getting a 1 second penalty for overtaking after the red flag came out and quali is about to start.

Edit: Looks like he is going to get the same penalty as Alonso

Schumi gets a 2 second penalty too for overtaking under a red flag.

What is going on here? Are they putting something in the water?

So. Michael and Fernando both have 2 second penalties but I find it hard to believe Michael overtook under red flags. He would have been told on the radio as soon as the flags came out and obviously he'd have been able to see them so now I'm thinking maybe the red flag was thrown at one point of the circuit and on another he was overtaking. Maybe in the time it took for the flag to appear all round the track he had done the overtaking. Why else would it take several hours to deliberate the verdict?

Has anyone got footage of Michael's incident?

I've merged the Alonso penalty thread with the GP thread. They were both essentially talking about the same thing.

I have only heard of the possibility of Michael getting a 1 second penalty (probably would get two if he passed under reds twice, as is reported). Have you got confirmation of this?

Overtaking under red is more serious than overtaking under yellow, hence the more severe penalty.

ITV F1 have confirmed the 2 second penalty.

EDIT: The FIA don't seem to have confirmed it yet though.

I find this hard to belive... what do you think is his excuse? surely he didnt do this on purpose.

Ross brawn confirmed Schumacher's 2 second penalty to ITV pit lane reporter Ted Kravitz. Schumacher overtook Kubica and Alonso (ironic, eh?) after the red flag was flown after Button's engine blow up.

He thought the race was going to be too easy to win, so he wanted a challenge.

Now we have a race on our hands. Remember Suzuka? :D (Although this is Massa’s or Kimi’s)

Now we wait to see if MS can pull a rabbit from his arse and make the top 10 with a 2 second penalty.

Valiant effort from MS almost half a second quicker than Alonso but only 1.4 quicker than the 10th place man so he doesn't get into the last 10.

I've got a feeling Schumacher will still win tomorrow. He's only 11th, with an optimum fuel level. If his tyres hold together, that is.

I dunno about the win, but it’s possible, for sure. Almost happened at Imola in 2005, it could happen here.

I also think this is the best chance that Kimi and Massa have for victory this year. It will be a very interesting race!

I really want to see the video of Schumacher's incident now after what he said about it. Anyone know where it's available?

He seemed to be implying that Alonso deliberately slowed down so that Schumacher would pass him. But Schumacher allegedly passed 3 cars. What about the other 2?

Yeah, but I think there has to be more to it if he's bringing attention to it like he is. I shall see soon hopefully.

This is quite weird. Are these the first qualifying time penalties all season? If they are, it's very suspicious.

Alonso (1 of the 2 championship contenders) gets a rare 2 second penalty in Friday practice.

Schumacher (the only other title contender) gets an identical, rare, 2 second penalty in the next days practice.

Just seems too weird to be true.

Kind of like a "whatever you can do, I can do better" situation. Lucky MS didn't get a larger penalty seeing as it was a red flag, highly dangerous.

Happy to see Kimi not trounce the opposition, Massa will fight him just hope he wont chuck it away, he was right on the edge in Quali. Honda appear to be back on form aswell taking 3rd and what would be 4th but instead 14th.

Should be a good race, just a shame the grid is on this damn track! If only it was on a track with overtaking places...

Kubica is actually Faster than Nick ... wonder how JV is feeling now with his "headache" !! very interesting 2moro as everybody is saying that every thing could change in the race tire wise

But don't worry, next year will be interesting as all the great drivers will be driving unfamiliar cars, Kimi in a Ferrari, Ferry in a McLaren and Webber in a Renault I guess. We will possibly see an unexpected champ next year...

No, we won't. If Michael doesn't retire, he should win easily - his only rivals will be learning their cars. Espically as everone will be on Bridgestones, and Ferrari are the only championship-challenging team that have recent experience of them.

Good to see both MS and Alonso getting punished for being daft. It at least shows the rules really do apply to everyone. I'll still be suprised if Schumacher doesn't win, though.

Mmmh, Schu refuses to comment his penalty. He just says "watch the video". Problem is, the FIA refuses to show the video. I wonder why. If he ingored the red flag to overtake Alonso plus two other drivers, than it was his fault.

I think that was the best qualifying session this year...if only the race could be just as good. That was a very nice job from Kimi. And Schumacher just blew everybody out of the water.

Oh yeah, did you see his pants? :scared:

Very brief footage of the MS incident (towards the end of the clip):

I don't know what he's saying (translation anyone please?) but from the look of the video it's probably something about Alonso dicking around with his brakes again. :yuck:

Still, stupid mistake to make, whatever Alonso is getting up to.

Alonso sure is buckling under the pressure! If he is not careful, he can kiss his 2nd World Championship Title hopes goodbye!

I still think that Michael will win this race! Being in P11 is no biggy for him! I just hope that his tyres will hold up and do the job and that the weather warms up to!

Good result for Webber, just hope that his car will go the distance now!

And congrats to Kimi for getting Pole Position! Would have been Michael's if he hadn't of got that 2 second penalty though!

What's happened to Martin Brundle?

Lucky ol' Ferry Alonso didn't mame whoever it was, Doornboss I believe. That was a dumb freakin' move. I think his move was far more dangerous. Schumi's brain-dead move probably didn't occur near the (I'm assuming) wreck that brought out the flag whereas Ferry put himself, another driver, track personel, crews and spectators in danger with his move... ON A FRIDAY! IN PRACTICE!!!

I think the red flag was out for Buttons blown engine , and yes alonso's move was much dangrous imagine if he hit him and injured him or himself !!
