Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

:odd: There's something wrong with your brain, why must you start every annoying, pointless post like that? :scared:

PD strikes me as stlightly snobbish of late. They do what they want to do, and if it's good enough for them, them it's worth your hard earned money. It's a shameful attitude, IMO.

Hopefully, they'll shame this post with an awesome, revolutionary game, but I won't hold my breath like I did with GT3.

I'm stating to think the same. The whole back fire issue that was in another post really pissed me off. I felt what they said was a little inconsiderate.

at least GT4 mobile will have online play. wi-fi baby.

Strikes me that they didnt really bother to much upgrading the AI, engine as the game was being developed from day one as online.
I posted much on this fact over at GTF even before GT3 was out, and to all those that say They never hyped it up as being online, heres a quick item i found in less than a minute search.

All of that hype was a direct result of media exposure, and not the fault of PD, sure they said the game will be online, complications come, you deal with it and move on, people are too picky, I dunno GT3 was fun, GT4 will be fun, if not dont buy it, I mean really what is the purpose of being on a fan based forum for the gran turismo series if all you do is tear it down...seriously.

It's constructive critisism dude.

We all want the series to be the best. Being in a fan forum doesn't mean you can't speak your mind about things that dissapoint you, even if it's the almighty gran turismo.

and he directly proved you wrong with the aforementioned links. PD have to release something to the media, so if the general consensus was that GT4 was supposed to be centered around online gaming, then they weren't just hyping it and making it up. PD were sending out the PR signals, the newssites just conveyed them to the public.

Dood you are seriously mistaken. PD has always released that it would have online features, however the core of the game would remain solely single player. That is where the flesh of the game is. If it were the other way around we would not see GT4 till online was finished, think about it before you are so quick to assume, again you know who I live with, you know I have involvement with the industry, I have read press releases and follwed GT4 for sometime, all press releases have stated that the game would feature online play, however it was only mentioned once, it was never brought up repeatedly, period.

He did not prove me wrong, he just proved how online driven the media can be. In this day and age many games do not get the credit they are due simply because they are online, which is not the way it should be, I much prefer games that have a fleshed out single player mode, because if they crowd ever dies I can still enjoy the game on my own.

And making assumptions as well as lame expectations is hardly constructive critisism, too few of you actually understand the industry, and you expect what is unrealistic given the state of the econmony and the industry...it's really pathetic IMO, don't speak on what you don't know about. You just sound like idiots because you assume so much, go learn a little before you guy's start rattling off things you think you know...christ, for being the "biggest" GT community this certainly is the worst...

I guess having the word "online" as a tentative title wouldn't persuade you... Either way I don't care.

P.S. you're being rude again. It's easy to get pissed off here, isn't it? :scared:

just re read those items i posted.
They were from around 2001 before and just after GT3 release.

Kazanuri came to those interviews and announced that his vision and direction of the next GT (now gt4) would be online, the media did not put those words in his mouth or drag it out of him, He stated that it was his plan for then next instalment, his vision and goal(fact).

They worked on it as an online title for 3 years (fact).

They had to quickly rethink their strategy when things werent going to plan with online, of course the game was always going to have the usual old offline element, and now that is all thats left.

P.S what makes you think you know the industry better than the rest?

Ive been a member firstly at GTF and since its destruction been a member here, since GT1, Ive been heavily involved in bringing the news for the GT franchise, less so with 4 as time constraints and Contacts in both VG media and game production (not GT) have dispersed, and the reason ive done that is because ive enjoyed parts of the series and realise the potential.
Trouble is all the promises seem to fade away from one GT to the next, And Ive seen it all before, criticism is necessary when no real progression is made, on features that have recieved heavy, but worthy critisism in the past.

I used to be a huge fan of the GT series, but the dull game that was GT3 quelled that sentiment, if GT4 once again fails to deliver anything more than a tiresome Car Showcase, then rest assured you will not see me here anticipating 5.
I may only be one man, but there are others like me (and the numbers are growing) who have become quite dissapointed at the way the developement of the franchise has left the game, not all gamers are driven to buy games that only have best graphics.
In fact if it is not improved in the quality of gameplay (not including the race and compare times A.K.A OLR as technically this isnt part of the game), then I will quite gladly bet that GT4 wil not be as succesfull as GT3 was sales wise.

If this title does dissapoint I would then be quite happy to support anyone who dares to take on the mighty PD and deliver a game full of the gaming elements lacking in GT.

So believe me, if you fail to keep your core loyal fans happy who originally appreciated the innovations you had the vision to introduce, you can not expect your future products to have the Kudos that breeds hype and sales, they will move on, and without respect the mass market will soon lose intrest, and look to see whats got the attention of those who are always looking for the next step.
The market follows, where innovation leads.
Of course I really should of expected the direction of the GT series once KY sold out to Sonys Corprate ethos somewhere around the time of GT2.

GT's core audience is no longer just car lovers, it's extremely larger than that. Fact will always remain that we are far outnumbered, and as long as that audience wants prety games, it will take longer to make improvements on the simulation aspect.

I disagree, Gts Core audience is and always will be car lovers, if you dont love cars you dont buy a car game, surely were past the wow, look how good this looks i just have to buy it, at this stage, in this generation of consoles, arent we?
Maybe not, i guess ill never understand the casual gamer Phsyce, never having been one when it comes to driving games.

Maybe I just dont get it aymore, Maybe i should already be looking else where for racing thrills, i just hope someone in the future can take what PD started, and move it in a new direction directed at those that actually like racing, because quite frankly im tired of this all looks and no substance approach to gaming.

Hope Forza actually manages to deliver on some of its promises especialy in the AI department, and can deliver good physics, as GT4 will undoubtably be left to plough through to gain cars to take into the OLR realm, especially as i bought the damn DFP because of all the promise some time ago, but i would actually like to race against some opponents real or AI that can provide a challenge from time to time.

P.S if you think AI improvement isnt important look at Hellnbacks post on whats imortant.

Let me elaborate on what I ment by "car lovers". I do not mean just people who enjoy cars. I mean people who are anticipating realisitic physics, challenging AI, and a difficult racing game that simulates reality.

Those people are not the core audience.

The core audience is primarily composed of people who see a large selection of cars, and are looking for a fun pretty racing experience.

Also, with the "online" play, regardless of what they said, there were complications. If you think it's easy, I suggest many of you go pick up a copy of say...DOAU, this game only has two characters on screen at once, and lags like crazy. For GT4 to run 6 cars online etc, with all that is going on, it was just a little too complicated to set up their own private network etc, so they pushed it back until it's right. big deal.

I never said that AI is not important, nor is it not needed, however if you believe that better AI will make you better at the game, then no, you are wrong. Sure it's fun to be pressured in a race. But yenno, if it's that big of a deal, then don't race with super cars. Sure the AI blows chunks, but it doesn't help you have a maxed tuned car against cars that are slightly less tuned...

I dunno, maybe I'm just a bit more forgiving and appreciate this just a tad more, who knows. But complaining and being picky only makes people unhappy...misery loves company, I'll be satisfied with the effort put forth and enjoy the game, you guy's do what you want :P

I dont need better AI to make me better at the game, i make myself better by running the license mode to get all golds,(The game actually trains you to reach a certain standard through the license gold sytem, but once youve attained that the rest of the game offers no real long term challenge)so by the time ive achieved this, Im already too good for it, so all thats left to do is start setting some blistering lap times, in an opponent free environment, where I can compete at most places on the net in Top 50, when i knuckle down for a good challenge.
Its just Id like to have some competetive fun, against some actual opponents.

Im actually glad to hear that the Code For Network play is fully operational already, and that hopefully the tunneling software can do the job, because ill be linking up my 1mbit connection, to a community of players eager to race GT4 online.
So fingers crossed that Xlink is gonna work.

Not sure how old you are Tha_Con, but im in my mid thrities been gaming since early 80s, like ive said, ive seen it all before, nothing ever changes and no ones ever delivered, the specs of consoles keeps going up, then developers endlessly fail to provide what they promise they could achieve if only they had more power.
Maybe the next Gen will change this, aslong as they have more than enough power to deal with the serious graphical needs, and leave masses of power left for everything else.
Otherwise it will be the same old story again. and in 5 years time will you still be defending PD, if the graphics are photo realistic yet the AI are still crap?
I think not you will be as tired of all this garbage output as i am now i think.
GT1 was innovative, moved racing games forward,2,3 and now possibly 4, have advanced virtually nowhere, and innovated the genre little.
You cannot continualy release a racing game that has racing as its poorest element.

EdIt:( :Im convinced the network will not appear next year and thus online Gt4 not see the light of day as a stand alone title, maybe in 2-3 years midway between developement of GT5, and only if Sony somehow incorporate backward compatability of PS2 into the PS3.

everything I've read about DOA:U indicates that it runs smooth as butter.

Maybe your connection sucks.

Your point is moot because lots and lots of titles run just fine in networked settings, and have thriving online communities to prove it. Lag is unavoidable because we don't live in a perfect world, and the rules of physics et-all govern what technology can acheive.

It's this whole ridiculous "all-or-nothing" ego trip that Kaz clings to that soils everything for GT fans that like online gaming. Neither of the previous GT games were perfect, or even close. Maybe some aspects were, but then GT runs the risk of being a "specialist" type game, as opposed to the all-encompassing, 1-stop-shop for everyone's racing needs.

Graphical fidelity isn't an issue anymore, people would rather see developers pave the way with innovative features than boast about their latest incremental advances in rendering tech. The "casual" crowd you so often refer to are just fine playing the latest GTA, despite it's graphical shortcomings. In fact, GTA gets NOTHING perfect, but it offers a broad set of features that people love.

And the GTA series in my experience have always been quite hard!
Maybe Im just crap though.

Yeh well I own the game, and apparently you do not...so don't comment. And it's also not my connection, Socom II runs fine, Burnout 3 (on xbox) runs fine, as well as my MK: Deception...so again I'm not just speaking out of my ass.

And about my age, I am 21 years old, I've already been to three E3 events, and have close contact with the industry, my roommate works for a Video Gaming website, and I get a lot of news before you guy's even see/hear about it. So regardless of how old you are or what you've seen in the past, while it may be experience, it's not in any way shape or form a connection or contact with people in the industry, it's just what we like to call "bystander observance".

These are the facts point blank.

People are NOT interested in Simulation racing games. It is NOT the best selling genre. SO, with that said, in order to SELL these titles, they have to LOOK amazing, and play decently. Fact is, to the GENERAL populace, and the LARGER base of people who buy this game, it is STILL CHALLENGING, so weather or not you, me, or any other seasoned vet can beat down the AI, WE ARE FAR OUTNUMBERED.

BUT with that said, they MUST make this game LOOK as GOOD as possible, otherwise it is JUST another racer and will more than likely ONLY sell to the hardcore user base, which I would go out on a limb and say is only about 30% of the total populace.

Now, you can argue all you want, but think how many copies GT3 sold, and think how many members this site has...we are only a SMALL percentage...so don't think we are marching hard in numbers. As long as this is the case, it won't change, and you are only preaching to the choir, there's no need for it we all know, sometimes you all act as if the fact that the AI is poor has JUST been discovered...who cares? Sure in the future, with more power, I'll care, but for right now, I don't, because I know how things are and i know what PD has done.

Competing with titles visually on Xbox with a PS2 is an amazing feat, period. So I give them kudos, lots of them. Hopefully given better hardware on PS3 they will not have to compete and things will advance quite nicely.

But keep arguing as you will, it's just you two backing up your own points...and they are not very well thought out in each post, whlie they are valid, you just aren't looking at the big picture, only the small portion of GT fans that are us, then you complain, it does no one any good if you don't understand the industry...it's just redundant.

when did DOA ultimate come out? I've been looking for it.

Anyway, arguing with you is akin to slamming myself in the head with a fire extinguisher, since you just don't seem to understand that people can feel differently than you.

But know this: you are not the authority on the subject. When it comes to beleiving what I read on the internet, I'd take a reputable news site, or first hand impressions from somebody I know (with sound judgement) than some guy on a board that knows a guy that runs a little-known game site, and that also berates other people for disagreeing with his narrow view. Sorry, that's just me.

A website that has credibility from www.xbox.com is hardly "little known".

And DOAU has been out since last week. Look harder.

And I know people feel differently, however complaining that a company has been lazy and neglecting certain aspects of a game without knowing any reason or having any knowledge as to WHY something like this might happen is just a little rediculous to me.

Also, when Gamespot, IGN, and many other large sites/magazines do their reviews, they are often in house tests of online play, meaning they are playing each other in the same office via an online connection, so lag isn't as noticeable, especially since most of the time it is office based connections which are usually T1 and higher...

The problem is not us, it is many others, and the network overall...but screw DOAU, I'm just showing examples of how little things can get jacked up, let alone a game that's already pushing a system.

You just don't seem to understand Polyphonys motives and their limitations, yet you complain and wish for things, but if it were the other way around I know you would all still complain, and it's sickining at times, because it's just for the sake of being dissatisfied with a product, and nothing more. The consumer is never happy, it's the spoiled society we live in today...it's pathetic.

GT4 will be an amazing game given the hardware it is on. Period. It is ALREADY pushing the PS2 very hard. To improve AI would mean sacrificing many other things, PEOPLE WILL NOT ACCEPT A STEP DOWN IN VISUALS. PERIOD.

HOPEFULLY given newer PS3 hardware, they will not have to stress the system to compete visually with ohter consoles, and will have room and power to improve other aspects of the game....

calling people pathetic is unnessessary, and the only thing that's sickening is how you won't let up. You're not educating, you're trying to grind your views into my skull, and when people try that on me, I don't give them the time of day. Have fun being vindictive. :)

Never did I suggest or ask that the AI be enhanced to a level that would make the game un open to all sections of the gaming community, i did however ask/ suggest that the AI needs to be improved, and would appreciate a mode/level where the game is actually a challenge to the hardcore sim fans even if this comes after completing the game.

I dont go on as if poor AI has just been discovered, it has been an issue since GT2 launched, kaz has accepted this and promised to ammend the situation in both 3 and 4, yes i understand that Graphics are important to increase sales but game sales rely on more than that.

Im actually quite looking forward to the reviews of the title, if when it appears the AI/ gameplay element is still as dull as GT3.
I can see them actually hyping the looks and choice of cars/tracks but what will they make of the gameplay, you know this titles has been 4 years in the making, with mass anticipation for online which has already been removed, that will be a major blow to the rating already IMO, then and if the AI/challenge of the game is no different from GT3 what will they make of the gameplay, 4 years waiting and only improved handling but no improvement in the racing element, dont think that will get the game a top rating.

If the situation hasnt improved I would actually like to see some reviewers with bottle to provide a rating going something like this:
Graphics 10

Then youll see how fickle your casual gamer is, and see how far the graphics improvement will sell games.
GT3 sold PS2s because the level of graphics were unseen, and everyone had been waiting for a title to see what the PS2 could do, these days we are more accustomed to highend visuals, and to the untrained eyes the difference isnt that significant over GT3.
It also sold significantly because there was nothing else on console to compete, but things have changed, alternatives are cropping up all over the place.
GT4 will still sell, it is after all GT, but will it sell like GT3, especially if Gameplay isnt improved, If it gets reviews as i hinted at above, it will be less likely to acieve record sales, in fact i dont believe even with good reviews it will come anywhere near the sales figures for GT3.

Please come out of the clouds, just because you have a friend who works on Xbox sites and gets you into trade fairs, doesnt make your opinion any more valid than anybody else. In life all opinions are valid, as long as they reflect a persons true feeling.

Of course im still going to buy it whatever, I love driving games and I will make the best I can of it.
