kinigittPD strikes me as stlightly snobbish of late. They do what they want to do, and if it's good enough for them, them it's worth your hard earned money. It's a shameful attitude, IMO.
Hopefully, they'll shame this post with an awesome, revolutionary game, but I won't hold my breath like I did with GT3.
lol, just leave her(him?) be happy.MajarvisThere's something wrong with your brain, why must you start every annoying, pointless post like that?

This is true, lol.code_kevYou answered your own question.
GTXLRStrikes me that they didnt really bother to much upgrading the AI, engine as the game was being developed from day one as online.
I posted much on this fact over at GTF even before GT3 was out, and to all those that say They never hyped it up as being online, heres a quick item i found in less than a minute search.

tha_conAll of that hype was a direct result of media exposure, and not the fault of PD, sure they said the game will be online, complications come, you deal with it and move on, people are too picky, I dunno GT3 was fun, GT4 will be fun, if not dont buy it, I mean really what is the purpose of being on a fan based forum for the gran turismo series if all you do is tear it down...seriously.
kinigittIt's constructive critisism dude.
We all want the series to be the best. Being in a fan forum doesn't mean you can't speak your mind about things that dissapoint you, even if it's the almighty gran turismo.
and he directly proved you wrong with the aforementioned links. PD have to release something to the media, so if the general consensus was that GT4 was supposed to be centered around online gaming, then they weren't just hyping it and making it up. PD were sending out the PR signals, the newssites just conveyed them to the public.
tha_conDood you are seriously mistaken. PD has always released that it would have online features, however the core of the game would remain solely single player. That is where the flesh of the game is. If it were the other way around we would not see GT4 till online was finished, think about it before you are so quick to assume, again you know who I live with, you know I have involvement with the industry, I have read press releases and follwed GT4 for sometime, all press releases have stated that the game would feature online play, however it was only mentioned once, it was never brought up repeatedly, period.
He did not prove me wrong, he just proved how online driven the media can be. In this day and age many games do not get the credit they are due simply because they are online, which is not the way it should be, I much prefer games that have a fleshed out single player mode, because if they crowd ever dies I can still enjoy the game on my own.
And making assumptions as well as lame expectations is hardly constructive critisism, too few of you actually understand the industry, and you expect what is unrealistic given the state of the econmony and the industry...it's really pathetic IMO, don't speak on what you don't know about. You just sound like idiots because you assume so much, go learn a little before you guy's start rattling off things you think you know...christ, for being the "biggest" GT community this certainly is the worst...
GTXLRjust re read those items i posted.
They were from around 2001 before and just after GT3 release.
Kazanuri came to those interviews and announced that his vision and direction of the next GT (now gt4) would be online, the media did not put those words in his mouth or drag it out of him, He stated that it was his plan for then next instalment, his vision and goal(fact).
They worked on it as an online title for 3 years (fact).
They had to quickly rethink their strategy when things werent going to plan with online, of course the game was always going to have the usual old offline element, and now that is all thats left.
P.S what makes you think you know the industry better than the rest?
Ive been a member firstly at GTF and since its destruction been a member here, since GT1, Ive been heavily involved in bringing the news for the GT franchise, less so with 4 as time constraints and Contacts in both VG media and game production (not GT) have dispersed, and the reason ive done that is because ive enjoyed parts of the series and realise the potential.
Trouble is all the promises seem to fade away from one GT to the next, And Ive seen it all before, criticism is necessary when no real progression is made, on features that have recieved heavy, but worthy critisism in the past.
I used to be a huge fan of the GT series, but the dull game that was GT3 quelled that sentiment, if GT4 once again fails to deliver anything more than a tiresome Car Showcase, then rest assured you will not see me here anticipating 5.
I may only be one man, but there are others like me (and the numbers are growing) who have become quite dissapointed at the way the developement of the franchise has left the game, not all gamers are driven to buy games that only have best graphics.
In fact if it is not improved in the quality of gameplay (not including the race and compare times A.K.A OLR as technically this isnt part of the game), then I will quite gladly bet that GT4 wil not be as succesfull as GT3 was sales wise.
If this title does dissapoint I would then be quite happy to support anyone who dares to take on the mighty PD and deliver a game full of the gaming elements lacking in GT.
So believe me, if you fail to keep your core loyal fans happy who originally appreciated the innovations you had the vision to introduce, you can not expect your future products to have the Kudos that breeds hype and sales, they will move on, and without respect the mass market will soon lose intrest, and look to see whats got the attention of those who are always looking for the next step.
The market follows, where innovation leads.
Of course I really should of expected the direction of the GT series once KY sold out to Sonys Corprate ethos somewhere around the time of GT2.

tha_conGT's core audience is no longer just car lovers, it's extremely larger than that. Fact will always remain that we are far outnumbered, and as long as that audience wants prety games, it will take longer to make improvements on the simulation aspect.

GTXLRI disagree, Gts Core audience is and always will be car lovers, if you dont love cars you dont buy a car game, surely were past the wow, look how good this looks i just have to buy it, at this stage, in this generation of consoles, arent we?
Maybe not, i guess ill never understand the casual gamer Phsyce, never having been one when it comes to driving games.
Maybe I just dont get it aymore, Maybe i should already be looking else where for racing thrills, i just hope someone in the future can take what PD started, and move it in a new direction directed at those that actually like racing, because quite frankly im tired of this all looks and no substance approach to gaming.
Hope Forza actually manages to deliver on some of its promises especialy in the AI department, and can deliver good physics, as GT4 will undoubtably be left to plough through to gain cars to take into the OLR realm, especially as i bought the damn DFP because of all the promise some time ago, but i would actually like to race against some opponents real or AI that can provide a challenge from time to time.
P.S if you think AI improvement isnt important look at Hellnbacks post on whats imortant.
tha_conLet me elaborate on what I ment by "car lovers". I do not mean just people who enjoy cars. I mean people who are anticipating realisitic physics, challenging AI, and a difficult racing game that simulates reality.
Those people are not the core audience.
The core audience is primarily composed of people who see a large selection of cars, and are looking for a fun pretty racing experience.
Also, with the "online" play, regardless of what they said, there were complications. If you think it's easy, I suggest many of you go pick up a copy of say...DOAU, this game only has two characters on screen at once, and lags like crazy. For GT4 to run 6 cars online etc, with all that is going on, it was just a little too complicated to set up their own private network etc, so they pushed it back until it's right. big deal.
I never said that AI is not important, nor is it not needed, however if you believe that better AI will make you better at the game, then no, you are wrong. Sure it's fun to be pressured in a race. But yenno, if it's that big of a deal, then don't race with super cars. Sure the AI blows chunks, but it doesn't help you have a maxed tuned car against cars that are slightly less tuned...
I dunno, maybe I'm just a bit more forgiving and appreciate this just a tad more, who knows. But complaining and being picky only makes people unhappy...misery loves company, I'll be satisfied with the effort put forth and enjoy the game, you guy's do what you want![]()

kinigitteverything I've read about DOA:U indicates that it runs smooth as butter.
Maybe your connection sucks.
Your point is moot because lots and lots of titles run just fine in networked settings, and have thriving online communities to prove it. Lag is unavoidable because we don't live in a perfect world, and the rules of physics et-all govern what technology can acheive.
kinigittwhen did DOA ultimate come out? I've been looking for it.
Anyway, arguing with you is akin to slamming myself in the head with a fire extinguisher, since you just don't seem to understand that people can feel differently than you.
But know this: you are not the authority on the subject. When it comes to beleiving what I read on the internet, I'd take a reputable news site, or first hand impressions from somebody I know (with sound judgement) than some guy on a board that knows a guy that runs a little-known game site, and that also berates other people for disagreeing with his narrow view. Sorry, that's just me.
tha_conA website that has credibility from www.xbox.com is hardly "little known".
And DOAU has been out since last week. Look harder.
And I know people feel differently, however complaining that a company has been lazy and neglecting certain aspects of a game without knowing any reason or having any knowledge as to WHY something like this might happen is just a little rediculous to me.
Also, when Gamespot, IGN, and many other large sites/magazines do their reviews, they are often in house tests of online play, meaning they are playing each other in the same office via an online connection, so lag isn't as noticeable, especially since most of the time it is office based connections which are usually T1 and higher...
The problem is not us, it is many others, and the network overall...but screw DOAU, I'm just showing examples of how little things can get jacked up, let alone a game that's already pushing a system.
You just don't seem to understand Polyphonys motives and their limitations, yet you complain and wish for things, but if it were the other way around I know you would all still complain, and it's sickining at times, because it's just for the sake of being dissatisfied with a product, and nothing more. The consumer is never happy, it's the spoiled society we live in today...it's pathetic.
GT4 will be an amazing game given the hardware it is on. Period. It is ALREADY pushing the PS2 very hard. To improve AI would mean sacrificing many other things, PEOPLE WILL NOT ACCEPT A STEP DOWN IN VISUALS. PERIOD.
HOPEFULLY given newer PS3 hardware, they will not have to stress the system to compete visually with ohter consoles, and will have room and power to improve other aspects of the game....
