I've just thought about this and thought it would be worth putting on the forum to see what other people think of it whether they like they idea or not....

"Would copy and pasting interiors of cars onto other similar cars be a good idea?"

Or creating some generic interior for all the standard cars so that they at least have an interior view?

tell me what you guys think, feel free to shoot this thread down if its a pointless idea

Cheers

This is supposed to be a real driving simulator, not a real driving simulator with a single cockpit view for all standard cars because Polyphony takes a long time to model the actual real interior of a car game.

while I'm not an interior view guy, this would be a good idea:

A generic interior sounds kinda lame IMO though.

Also an option to shut off the shaking so I don't feel the need to vomit when using it.

I personally dont use it apart from the odd look, but it would be nice for some of my most used standards. Maybe by car class ie. hatchback/saloon/etc. or price wise to negotiate which car gets which interior.

Fair enough :)

Generic cockpit is pointless, however reusing most the the cockpit for cars that are essentially the same(IE the myriad of the Skyline GTRs in standard with the cockpit of the premium ones) is largely doable....

Thinking about it, having just a generic cockpit isn't perfect! :P

I'd like the idea of creating catergory interiors for specific types of cars like Hatchbacks/saloons..etc as it just one interior that you see in every car

GT PSP had a cockpit view for every single car, but it was just all black.

Yeh thats true, but i was thinking what about creating a couple of interiors that are more than just black, black wouldn't work on however big your TV is.

Creating a few interiors that have a steering wheel, dials, air vents, etc. the major parts of a car that need to be in a cockpit, not looking at stitching lining behind the dashboard

Just fix the existing ones please, the inside of my car isn't as black as the night.

I'd rather have them just make all of the standard cars look nicer on the outside, or atleast soome of them anyway. They could call them "advanced" cars.

Standard....Advanced....Premium

I think that would work...

I agree, even just smoothing the edges would make them better :)

I dont get why the license plates arnt rendered the same as the car? My 205 is just photographable (leavnig out the wheel arches but all standards fail there) but the license plate is always pixelated.

I guess it also depends on how similar the cars are.

Also wouldn't all the cars with strict weight reductions have kind of samey interiors anyway? Do interiors change with weight reduction? I've actually never checked.

No the interior isn't affected its just the stats that change (the performance does change as well)

I don't really want this thread to go too far off topic :)

the problem that i have with the interior view is that nobody keep their head looking straight while they turn left or right. first thing they tell you when your learning to drive: "look where you want to go". i play GTR-EVO on my computer and there i drive from the interior view beauce it has an option called "look to apex percent". i have it set to 40%, and basically when you turn left the camera turns left too. like you would naturally do in real life. as well in GTR-EVO the head/camera bobbles tilts and leans according to the g forces, jumps, dips, braking and acceleration. that can also be adjusted on a percentage. the realism is incredible. also you can adjust the seat like in real life. i was expecting EVEN MORE from PD. i figured if some amateurs came make a bunch of add-on cars for that game and make them that detailed and awsome, then the pros, and perfectionists, at PD would develop something just amazing.
i called them amateurs because 3D modeling and modding and making add-ons is not their job. just a hobby. i mean no disrespect to them because they do and incredible job for a hobby.

EDIT: no generic interiors is not a good idea. as far as i can tell the interior doesnt change after weight reduction. though in real life they take out the "stock" dashboard and make one in the same shape out of carbon fiber, remove junk from it they done need like heat/ac panel, stereo, nav etc etc. but that would kinda be too much work for 700+ cars retextured and the such. it has been mentioned before that a lot of cars that are standard have identical counterparts as premium. just one year older or newer. or even a standard being a north american left-hand drive and a premium being a japanese right-hand drive. im thinking first generation miatas, rx-7s. many other that dont come to mind

So the copying and pasting of cars interiors seems to be an alright idea :D

but generic interiors goes against all that is PD

'Real Driving Simulator', eh? In reality, are you nailed to your car's bumper? Or are you flying over and behind it? Nope. IRL, you are IN the car, that's why interiors would have been very-very important. And that's why it's a shame that only Premiums have them, and most of them are way too dark most of the time. Copy-pasting would be good, but I'd like the option to swith on the lights (not just on the tracks that have night option as well, like the 'ring), that switch on the dasboard's lights as well, else most of the time they are useless still.

I agree with Madman Apex, also in LFS, you can look 'into' the bends, and it's amazing. I wanted to see something like that in GT5, (because GT5's physics, cars and tracks are closer to my likeing) but it's a different type of game...

Having a generic view for all standard models would be an awesome idea seeing as how I am incredibly bummed out that only premium models have them.

After spending countless hours with both cockpit and bumper cam I would be more than happy with a proper consistent hood view (over the front axles)... This is the more accurate perspective if your sitting in front of your TV...

Until cockpit view can be set to be able to show your COMPLETE field of view you would have in a real car (many of us got pretty decent sized TV's, these days), I simply don't find it that much use. I don't have a head tracker, and from what I hear it's not working that great yet, anyway... but get in any real car and hold you head still. You can still see BOTH side mirrors just by flicking your eyes.

Head bobble is too exaggerated (without the inner ear matching what you see, many users report nausea) and vision is too restricted, IMO.

And can we PLEASE get off calling it 'bumper cam'? It has been definitively proved that what is commonly called bumper cam is REALLY cockpit cam, but with the cockpit removed. If you want the real position of it, it is JUST in front of the windshield (because no rain splashes or wipers come into view), and you have an invisible car (because you can't see the hood.

My preference would be to have it be just INSIDE the windshield (so you have the same visibility issues cockpit has with weather) and you get to see the hood, for better apex management. But until cockpit view widens the field to a human's FOV, it is only for admiring the dash in replays, as far as I am concerned...

Copy-pasting would cover a lot of cars.

Just copy one of the premium skyline interiors to nearly every one of the standard and BAM! That's about 150 or so standard cars that now have full cockpit view. :D

Fair enough, I saw those posts before, but without the hood there and half the screen filled with track just isn't good immersion... Just having the hood goes a long way in seeing where your car is pointed, knowing your FOV is the same turning (or very close) to the front wheels, and aligning the hood to the apex, when I try and do this the gages I line up too early and scrub off a mess of speed... and I can't seem to correct this... maybe because I'm driving so many different cars...

Why would you say a generic cockpit would in a sense "devalue" Gran Turismo, it has pros and cons i think:

Pros: All cars have a cockpit view for those who love racing at that angle

Cons: It may become boring seeing the same pattern on each car and it isn't really the way of PD

... what else?

I agree. Have you guys seen the difference in the rain between cockpit view and bonnet view.

I'd say for those that DO like to race cockpit view, for all its' problems, a generic interior would help keep a consistent perspective between different cars. In fact, the blacking off of the interior like the PSP seems the best way to do it, then the purists are not offended, but the cockpit racers can at least keep a consistent view from car to car.

Generic wheel, instruments and gearshift seems a light price to pay for returning an even playing field to those that DO prefer cockpit view... After all, those in hood cam (windshield cam, bonnet cam, whatever!), roof cam and God cam (chase cam?) have to endure generic speedo's and tach's, even when the real one's have been modeled in Premium.

Absolutely-ish, but i do think that seeing no steering wheel on a big screen and a car game is a bit odd :P, if PD improved on the plain black screen and made it a bit more than just a black part of the screen.

I know I keep going back to that problem it won't work on a 40" screen, so the black cockpit isn't really an option

Actually, as a wheel user, I like the option to turn OFF the wheel. Pretty weird seing my hands on my wheel, then somebody ELSE'S hands on another one!

I know this sounds kinda crazy, but has anyone considered making a cardboard cutout of the usual cockpit view restrictions, then hanging it over the TV when in hood cam view?

You might wait forever to get Kaz to change his mind about this feature... at least you'll still be seeing your usual perspective (minus the rain and windshield wipers) more or less!

A budget replacement :P
