Making Cockpit view better..

This is supposed to be a real driving simulator, not a real driving simulator with a single cockpit view for all standard cars because Polyphony takes a long time to model the actual real interior of a car game.

I don't think that would all fit on the cover anyway.:sly:

On topic, I don't think adding a generic cockpit is a good idea. If they feel like adding them as they go, great, but I don't see the point in a make-believe cockpit.

A generic interior view would to me be basically the same as a generic exterior as the interior design of any car is specific to that particular car.
Having a basic black dashboard lay-out would to me be the same as seeing generic faceless cars in the game, not a good idea.
The Standard cars are far beyond their sell-by date anyway so any hope for updating them is pointless, we can only hope for more Premium cars to take their place eventually with some update or DLC (or at least some will be replaced).
A generic black dashboard like they used in GT-PSP probably only works on a very small screen like a PSP, imagine it in full screen HD (not a pretty sight I reckon, hence why they abandoned it I guess, they did work on it).

And ofcourse PD will automatically duplicate an already modelled interior if another car has the same interior (same make/model, different type/spec), it would be stupid to model it again if they only have to change a few colours, textures and perhaps the steering wheel (they already did it on a few examples in GT5).

Well, i see myself only driving premium cars right now and that´s because thay have cockpit view. I have my G25 in front of the tv and i just don´t like the bumper cam, so any of your ideas are very good.
Better days will come, and i wish interior view for every car.

PD should have put something in place (generic cockpit) for the standards so we wouldn't have to switch between views when we switch cars (premium to standard.) Plus the game plays/feels different from the different views, so switching just blows.

I feel like bumping this thread up again, squeezed a bit more out of it

Share your thoughts, what should go into a generic cockpit?

Fluffy dice and an ash tray full of butts, cock pit view in the Shelby cobra is awesome.

Interesting :P might add more character to the cars
I haven't seen the Cobra cockpit :)

Maybe a satnav thats works in game

I like the generic cockpits, less distraction but still get the point of view. I always hated seeing the drivers hands anyway, and the steering wheel, so in some ways it's an improvement for me. To each his own, I think it's great that they're at least trying. I think it's pretty obvious they will eventually be upgraded with the actual graphics in the future since they are the exact shape of each specific car. I think we'll probably get batches of them in future updates though (not DLC), but not all at once unless it's Spec 3.

Ive been saying the same thing about eventual upgrades to the standard cockpits since spec2 was released all those days ago. ;) I doubt they will be premium standard but pretty close.

I doubt copy/paste is even possible.

I wouldn't mind it, but it's probably more difficult than copy/paste.

I like how it is now, a few additional details for race cars would be nice, button dials and whatnot.

If they would make them like they were in GTPSP, I would most likely barely touch Premium cars again.

Same here as my favorite cars are mostly standards... some stuff is missing, like being able to see the external details like hoods, scoops and some mirrors (in oldschool JDM cars for example)

But I got high hopes that they must be working on this... like I pointed on this thread I've created, they even have rollcages on some racing cars...

What about windshield wipers on standars? If it is raining is quite annoying to say the least because wipers are not working!!!:ouch:

Then whether I switch to roof cam or classic bumper cam but I do not really understand how difficult would be to place some wipers in there.

I am pretty sure before even a "SPEC 3.0" is released they are gonna tweak and patch Standard cars again.I would expect even Rims ,a little interior details maybe and windshields .:)

Dont get me wrong , I am not one of those that are daydreaming about DLC or patches, but a couple of months ago if someone told me about Cocpit in standard models I would have laughed.

Pd proved, that they listen to some extend. We will see:)

I would have laughed because I've been expecting it since I read this, he sounded surprised

Regarding interior view…do you mean you would want a black frame interior view?
By blackframe, I meant same as in PSP (re: cockpit view)
In that case, it would be technically possible.

Great idea, create a basic cockpit view of, say, a Skyline GT-R R34 and paste it on the other 20 or so R34s' in the game. Lol 💡

Copy-pasting would cover a lot of cars.

Just copy one of the premium skyline interiors to nearly every one of the standard and BAM! That's about 150 or so standard cars that now have full cockpit view. :D

Edit: This guy^ got to it first.

I cant see why a premnuim Skyline interior can be used on a standard cars...

Or for that matter the respective Skyline exteriors. There really won't be significant enough changes between each marque to create an uproar, as most R32/R33/R34's exteriors are pretty much identical.

The cockpit view really is something that has bugged me from this update, mostly because it doesn't take into account the hood of the car. You may as well be sat in a box with window shaped cutouts to see through, not any kind of road-going vehicle.
Sure, some cars have faired better than others but the vast majority fail to make the grade. After all, the hands move in the cockpit, around a wheel you cannot see. The turbo gauge is in a place that could so easily have had a generic "pod" surround, and the speedometer and rev counter could have followed in the same vein.
Such a shame.

Im with you. I really like the blacked out cockpits on the standards. I never used that view(I'm usually bumper cam) until they added it. I like it becuase i do find the cockpit distracting with all its details mainly because everything is in focus, every detail on the dash and track. so it throws me off.

If they made standard cockpits more like GT PSP where you can really feel you're actually inside the car you're driving, I'd be content.

a button that turns off all the shake would be nice.

I think it would be a good idea if they chose one interior from an existing premium car, say the Volkswagen Golf GTI '01, or any other premium car with an interior that would look fit in many other cars, and use that interior for most or all of the standards. Then, for the more unusual standards or the supercars, they could use an interior from a premium supercar, like the Acura NSX. Just a thought.

EDIT : It would also be neat if you could hang fuzzy dice from your mirror or hang an air freshener up there, or put a hula figurine on the dashboard, or get a silly looking cover for your steering wheel. It would do wonders for car customization.
