Manual Or Automatic ??

I always use automatic, thats coz I'm lazy. If you're good at the game and know what you're doing you would probably be better off using manual.

I use the GT3 Logitech wheel and use the manual - always have with all of the GT games (always had a wheel).

Goes back to the old advanced driver training - gives you a lot more control mid-corner.

Good example is the left hander into the tunnel at Midfield - to assist with traction, I'd take third gear during a race rather than second to control wheelspin.

Manual yields better acceleration, unless you are unable to upshift when the red rpm light starts blinking.

if you pick auto matic....
you can accel fast like if u have manual...
what you do is you press the R2 or L2 when the rpm gets to redline....
then the gear wont change....then when you let it go...it will switch and hold it down again when the needle gets to the redline =)

wtf?

"manual doesn't acclerate..." -A Spec Racer

umm....NO...

after 100% of racing in that game...manual is better in all respects (unless ur lazy of course...) TRUST ME!!!!

Manual is way better, because, obviously, you can control the gearchanges much better than an automatic car.

It helps the car to handle better round corners too.

Automatic cars are for lazy people IMO. And i'm talking about real life too.

Ahh, the manual, automatic fight is back for another round...

Its gotta be Manual... more control of the car...

Thats my short, simple, two cents... :D

I always used automatic in GT and GT2. I swore to myself for the sake of purity, that'd I'd switch to manual when I started playing GT3.

I did so, and I can vouch...there IS no comparison. Once you learn to properly shift, you'll leave automatics in the dust. BUT, if you are just talking about acceleration from a stop, then there probably isn't much of a difference.

Downshifting into braking zones and the like puts the car into its powerband much more effectively in a manual.

Absolutly right!!! (i hope i spell it right!!! )

Even if automatic its more confortable... :D but not so exciting

For pure acceleration, only to be used on the 400m machine test, you can gear your car so that when using manual transmission, start in 2nd gear, make your first shift before you enter the red, then upshift when appropriate. This will blow away times with the same car with an automatic transmission. Of course gearing this way is not practical for actually racing.

Manuel- autos aren't realistic(let off the gas, egine is still in a lower gear at 5000rpm).

I have found new ways to work the manuel. Accelerate into the red line(or just below red line) and, while still on the gas, tap reverse, and it will shift like you have a clutch. This is very usefull on slower turbo cars, as when it shifts with this method, the turbo boost is not lost.
You can also down shift this way, although it is not necesary when not under power.

I've alway driven manuel, although in real life, my car is an auto, but I think that it is better to start with an auto, then when you get good at driving, a manuel is an option.

A Spec racer- by the name i'm guessing you're a Mazda person.....if not, you should know the A-Spec is a Mazda term.
