The review embargo gets lifted tomorrow, predicted metascore anyone? I can see it getting an 89. Not higher because try hard sites looking for hits will slam it for not having a track creator or something.

High 80's or low 90's is my guess as well. I do think it would be awesome if Nintendo did add a track creator. There really is no reason not to considering how well it worked in ModNation and LBP: Karting.

I just don't think it's Mario Kart's style, I loved it in MNR but the facelessness, creative base for that game made it fit. It's the same reason I don't think platformers like Sonic do it too, the content outpour would just heavily have a poor influence online.

MK is all about clean, perfected, predictable kart fun but MNR was making it's identity as an anything goes, messy bunch of amazing ideas that turned out fantastic.

I don't think I would like a track editor in MK, but who knows? If done right(like MNR) maybe it would be awesome.

I predict a 93, as I think many sites are going to rate it highly which will negate some of the lower scores. As for the sites that do as you say, @Classic , I avoid them at all costs. There's a lot of negative people out there that love to bring things down for the sake of it.

Yep, user reviews for popular games on sites like Metacritic are absolutely worthless. You'll have tons of trolls just rating the game a zero to try to piss off the fanboys. I really don't even see the need to review this game, it is Mario Kart so you know it is going to be badass. :D

Loving the reviews. Some of the opinions with critics are all over the place, it is hard what to expect from the game. Gamespot says skill is very much the main thing. While Gamexplain say the Red Shells are more deadly than before because of the coin item, making it sound luck based.

I hear mixed reception on the new item system. With positives on the new items but negatives on the coins and the fact you can only have 1 item. Now I'll admit. Having the coin sounds stupid and just makes it feel like a dud item (almost as worthless as the fake item box) but I think I'll love the only 1 item mechanic. I'm usually one of the catch-up racers (the ones that do mediocre to bad at the start but catch up in the end) and the most annoying thing is when in some cases it is practically impossible to get 1st because the leader is too far ahead and every item is almost pointless to use against him/her because they always have an item to block. The 1 item system really helps the catch-up racers but also makes everyone have to watch their backs which is awesome. Keeps the racing tight.

Which leads me to a question. What type of MK Driver do you consider yourself?

Some include:
All-Round (Well mixed performance)
Catch-up (Slow at start but come back).
Quick starter (Fast at start, ending performance depends on the action).
Deadly Racer (Uses the items to the best of their abilities to get the win).
Luck Racer (Leaves it to lady luck to decide who wins).

I am more of a quick starter, If I lose races it is in the very last lap every time, hence I fare better on the section tracks. Is anybody here going to be using the in-game voice chat in lobbies? Me and my friends are just going to use Skype because it offers a far better solution, I'm not sure how anybody feels regarding this kind of stuff but we could have a GTP-MK Society chat room. :D

I'll be using voice chat at first then just see where that leads up.

I can't wait to post Mario Kart Videos on Youtube. My channel will be flooded with them :p. However, I wish there was an option to have a more complicated editor, like the highlight reels from WWE 2K14.

Judging by how many people still aren't swayed by the time and money spent on MKTV, I doubt that would go down any better!

I'm buying a DVR for streaming and recording of races too. :D

Guess so, lucky you have a DVR.

A future Tournament I have planned :p: ATV Rally.
ATVs only and the tracks will only be the section tracks.

Loving that idea, I have one more exam on Monday and then I will be giving thought to when we can do the tournaments and what kinds we can do. Will PM you when I start pushing forward with it. :)

If anybody else would like to assist with the creation of GTP tourneys, just shoot a PM!

I'm liking what I'm seeing from the reviews as well. I especially like the fact the all of the new tracks have been loved by the reviewers, even the beginner circuits which came as a surprise. I'm still on the fence about the coin item though, I'll just have to wait and see what it's like myself before I make a definitive judgment on it. But I do like the new item system for the reasons that @RESHIRAM5 mentioned.

As for the kind of driver I am, I think I'm a quick starter. I always try to get to the front as early as possible (like I do in Gran Turismo, but in a cleaner fashion :p) and try to defend my position to always be near the top at the end so I have a chance of winning. Only 2 weeks left, but man, is it gonna be a long 2 weeks or what?

I see a bit of questioning in the reviews of Replay Value. Well with VS back in Single Player with customization options from MK7, Mario Kart TV (Though I might be the only one interested), Online and Tournaments. I see some replay value. But what could be more replay value would be an option in VS to choose how much CPU race (You might 1v1 a CPU or have a classic 8 race) and even better, choose which character races (like you could have a Koopaling only race).

Game Informer has an opinion piece on their website about Mario Kart. The writer made a list from his least favorite to his favorite and Mario Kart 8 was number one.

Personally I'd say my favorite is Super Mario Kart. I adore that game to this day, it is such a wonderful experience. I doubt Mario Kart 8 will top it for me personally but from what I've seen I think it will be very high on my own list.

My top is Double Dash. The 2 driver mechanic shaked things up a lot and had the best tracks (IMO).

Since I won't be needing Mirror to unlock anything. You won't be seeing me doing Mirror Races.

I noticed when looking up the kart part stat boosts (except glider). Around half actually decrease your stat total, most by 0.25 and some by 0.5 (meaning you can have a stat total drop of 1) and most of the stat drops are coming from grip/traction. Only the Landship, Biddybuggy and Mr. Scooty (which highly focus on Acceleration and handling) ad you stat total and it is only a 0.25. I also noticed that the part effected the most of the stat drop are the kart parts that mainly focus on speed. Will this make it more balanced?

There's also 7 weight classes a-la MK7, so these 2 features should make for more in-depth tuning.

Super Mario Kart is also my favourite. I liked the physics, sense of speed, tracks and sound in the game. My older brother was I think one of the best if not the best Super Mario Kart player on Mario Circuit 1 time trialling when he used to play it.

Super Circuit is my favorite. It's a souped-up version of SMK with new tracks and all of the original courses. I've always loved how the red shell worked when used backwards by sitting on the track and waiting for someone to pass, then give chase. There's a lot of great tracks in SC that I wish were in 8, like Ribbon Road and Cheese Land for example.

My local GameStop has a Mario Kart 8 demo set uo. I can't decide if I want to go and try it out or wait until it releases for a completely fresh experience...

I want to experience Mario Stadium in all it's glory with my full undivided attention. Imagine that.

I'm going to wait it out, since we've only got 12 days left. After years of playing demos before I get a game, I want to go "old school" this time and enjoy that new game feeling (I guess that's what you can call it). Besides, the videos and reviews are all I need to ensure me that this is going to be one of the best Mario Karts of all time.

@Classic I wish we had Baby Park from Double Dash. I've never had the chance to race there, but from what I've seen it looks like insane chaotic fun!

Passing on Alpine Pass from 7 was an awful idea in my opinion. Much better than Music Park.

I've heard a lot of dislike for Music Park, and since I've never played it, or even seen it, I'm curious as to why that is. What makes it so disliked?

It's just not that fun, feels like a generic track that a user would make.

Ah. In that case they should have picked another track from a previous title that only has one or two tracks, such as the GBA or SNES versions.

Baby Park is on Mario Kart DS so, they likely didn't want to use the same track twice until they have done all the tracks from Double Dash.

Melody Motorway was a good track but I was sad that they didn't change anything. SNES Vanilla Lake 2 would have been better.

P.S I have been dying to see Vanilla Lake 2 return for years.

That's understandable. I don't have much experience with the tracks other than the ones from 64, Super Circuit, and Wii so I have no idea what would be good and what wouldn't, but like I've mentioned I'd like to see some more Super Circuit love. If they do it in the fashion that they did Mario Circuit then the GBA tracks have lots of potential.

Something else that I noticed about 8 that I like a lot is the new point spread. It's more "rewarding" for a mid-pack finish than previous games, but the winner also gets a nice little bit of padding, but not so much that would put things out of reach quickly for the others.

I get a new Mario Kart once every few releases, kinda like Madden, so I guess it's a year where I get it.
