Well I'm not in it for MP, I just want to finish out Max's story. Max Payne's one of my favorite game series of all time. This'll be the first console game I've bought since GT5 :p

Although now I'm thinking of getting the PC version too (although Games For Windows DRM is kind of lame) 'cause you know there'll be some awesome mods coming along.

And another thing, Rockstar gives all of their games awesome PC treatments right? All except for Read Dead Redemption... for whatever reason, I would buy that tomorrow if it came out on PC. That isn't to say that I didn't get it despite that, I loved RDR, but its potential for modding is just out of this world.

I do agree, i want Max Payne 3 primarily for the story

I want to know if this continues using the ending where mona is alive or the one where she dies..

but I do want to try out multiplayer.

**edit**

Official launch trailer!

I plan to rent it for the campaign but I will check out the mp too. As long as it doesnt require the online pass.

I rented this and put about an hour and a half into the campaign. So far it truly is amazing. If this is any sign of what GTA5 will look like then GTA5 is going to be one heck of a game. Graphically MP3 is by far THE best looking game Rockstar has created. Its rare that you ever see the actual gameplay looking better than the cinemas, but thats what happens in Max Payne 3. The gameplay is so dang smooth when it transitions from cinema to actual gameplay. There were several times I was waiting for the cinema to continue and realized I was actually playing agian. Really impressed with the quality of this game. Following the bullets in slow motion from your gun to your target is very rewarding and at times very gory in a good way. The physics, movements of characters, is so impressive.

I do agree with some of the campaign complaints that Gametrailers.com was talking about. The constant flashing and bluring images every 2 seconds in the cinemas does feel like I will have an epileptic seizure but other than that its been one heck of a roller coaster ride with the campaign.

I plan to check out the multiplayer tonight or tomorrow. But right now I am hooked on the campaign. It is very very good so far and I am only at the beginning. I heard it drags on later in the campaign but I sure hope not, because so far it is excellent.

I've watched a few Let's Plays on Youtube of Max Payne 3...and...I got to say that it looks a lot like the GTAV trailer at times. I get the distinct feeling that MP3 and GTA5 are going to use the exact same engine. Heck, the MP3 characters even do the trademarked "Block hand" movement with their hands just like GTA. (This comes from GTA3 when the hands of the characters were actual blocks and they couldn't move their digits. Ever since, the GTA characters still tend to move their hands of if they were more articulated blocks.)

Heck, GTA5's cars are even in the game. In the first few minutes you see a van and Turismo that look like they belong in a GTA game. It's enough to make me think that Max Payne and GTA take place in the same universe....and that, possibly, MP3 might tie into GTA5 somehow...which would be pretty cool.

I sure hope GTA5 uses this engine because its stunning! Easily the best looking rockstar game created. The draw distance is insane. I realize there isnt much going on compared to a sandbox game, but if this is any sign of what we will see with GTA5 then thats going to be amazing.

I am on the last level and the very end of the game. The campaign has been a great rental for sure. I tried the multiplayer out with a friend last night for about an hour. We did not enjoy the mp at all. Some terrible spawns, spawn killing, unbalanced gameplay. Its just not enjoyable. In fact there are only about 5,000-6,000 people playing. Which is not much at all for a new game. This multiplayer is nowhere near as fun as RDR or GTA4. I am glad I only rented this game. Campaign has been great, mp not so much. The review that Gamestop gave MP3 is spot on for me. Starts out with a bang on the first disk and then drops off on the 2nd disk. Overall they gave it a 7. I would give it a high 7 low 8. Its shocking for me to say this but Stranglehold did a lot of the slow motion shooter gameplay better. If you have never played Stranglehold you should check it out.

This game is awesome. 👍 Playing through the campaign now, won't bother with multiplayer. Like others have said, the visuals are amazing! The story is (once again) top notch. The flashing and blurring is supposed to give an impression of how it is to work while on hard liquor and meds I guess.

I finished up the campaign on medium and decided to restart on hard difficulty. BTW the campaign was very fun especially the first disk. Mp is not enjoyable at all. With that said, I started the new campaign and wanted to see if I could skip the cinemas. The rumor was that you cant. Well actually you CAN skip the cinemas if you hit the A button. BUT you have to wait until the game finishes the loading screen. It will keep saying "loading" if you hit A. Some of the loading screens are between 3-4 MINUTES!!! Thats with the disk installed. WOw thats some serious loading time. I cant think of any other game that takes 3-4 minutes to load on the 360.

Decided to bring back the rental. Just didnt feel like playing through the game again on the harder difficulty and the multiplayer is not fun at all.

guys I need a bit of advice. do you think is worth playing this game if I haven't played the other two previous chapters of this saga ?

Definitely. It isn't really a very good continuation of Max Payne's story and his character has changed a fair bit, but it definitely works well on it's own. Imagine a gritty sequel to The Last Boy Scout/Die Hard with the visual style a mix of Man on Fire and a Michael Mann film.
MP1&2 are up there on the greatest games of all time list, but they're a bit too dated visually to play them now.

Get it on PC too. It's very well optimized. I can run it on comfortably on high (VH Textures rest on High no tessalation) at 1440x900 on a 2.8C2D, 2gb ram and a GTS450.

Thanks man for the reply.
I'll have to get it for the Ps but I'm also waiting for Far Cry 3 :ouch: so I need to decide.

Do you think is much worse for console than on a pc?

Got it monday, special edition. Game is awesome. Max is back, and in the worse shape ever (caracter wise)

Total must buy - game.

While I agree on what you said, they departed from the noire- style quite a bit, but the caracter is still in line, he has matured, they even make tons of references to that. It works well (haven't finished it yet). The analogy on action flicks is so dominant, even a reference to True Lies is in there, but I bet there are so many more you simply don't spot them all.

Great Game.
Love Max, awesome Monologues

I pre-ordered this one for PC but have not picked it up yet.....

So....you are saying it's worth picking up? :)

Yes, get it. 👍 I was a bit worried when I saw the trailer with Max's new look, but once you play the game and see the full story and evolution, it all works out and makes sense. :)

If you want to know what happened in MP1 or Max's history in more detail, check this out. I stumbled across them last night.

Well, I did get it and I am very impressed so far! (PC Version) I maxed everything out and let it rip! This will be a fun one for sure. It's true to the series, as far as I can tell from the first 3 chapters I've played so far. 👍

Pako I don't know you're specs but MSAA is not to be turned on (unless you have two kepler cards in sli), it has a massive hit on performance. I play everything maxed except msaa and get it rendered with 100fps.

The game does look good on PC. Finally a port that is well done, I was worried after GTA4.

And Multiplayer is bonkers but fun

You know, you are right. I normally turn off any AA because I run at 2560x1440 resolution. At those resolutions, any AA becomes pointless and the only differences I see are in performance. With that said, everything else is maxed and average 160+ FPS. I am running two GTX590's Hydros in Quad SLI.

I might mess with MSAA just to see if there is ANY benefit, but my guess is that it wont.

[Edited]

Alright, everything was maxed out but was only able to turning MSAA up to 2x because of the game not reading my video ram correctly. It said I only had 1.5gb total video memory. It failed to read the other 1.5gb in my other card.

In any case, I was averaging 160+ FPS consistently. For what it's worth, at that resolution I saw no benefit to any of the AA technology, it did not make it any smoother. It already looked about as smooth as it was going to without a higher polygon count.

Been taking my time on this one. Great game by the way. The more I play it, the more depressed I get! :D

Does anyone know how many chapters there are?

As predicted, the multiplayer for Max Payne 3 has pretty much dropped off the radar already. The campaign was excellent but the mp was trash. Its only been out about a month and the mp is already down to 19th place on xboxlive. http://majornelson.com/2012/06/13/live-activity-for-week-of-june-4th/

Pako can you post some MP3 pics? I bet it looks amazing on your rig. It looked really dang good on the 360 especially for a rockstar game. Easily THE best looking game from them. If GTA5 looks anything like MP3 then I will be in sandbox heaven.

Oh yeah, for sure! I just finished the story mode a couple nights ago. Great game, short....but great. I'll snag some shots tonight in full 2540x1440 resolution.

SLI 590's... Holy ****. What did that run you like $2500? Lol.

Game does look on PC. I think I am about half way through the campaign. I attempted multiplayer but just got my ass handed to me. So I will wait til I finish the campaign lol. Didn't like keyboard and mouse with this title so I have been using soft lock and a 360 controller.

I knew it was going to be a good PC title when I heard it was 28 GB lol.

Screen shots as promised. Direct Link to the album. The top left corner shows some basic info, Frames per second, as well as temps and loads of each GPU.

Just finished this game. It was awesome. Beautiful graphics, great story, and fantastic mechanics. A couple of hang ups in difficulty on various levels... Regardless, this goes down as one of my favorite games.

I highly recommend it!
