I CAN't DECIDE ON WHICH COLOR!!!

Guide to beat Liquid Ocelot final fight Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

I've just come out of defeating Liquid in the final fight on "Extreme" and I find that this fight on this level is really the only thing in the game that actually is really, really hard - unless you know what to do that is. Eventually I found a method to beating Liquid decisively. Here it is:

Round 1:
Wait for Liquid to lunge in and when he does immediately move in a little as well and start puching with L1 until you knock him down with a roundkick.

Pursue him when he's down and just when he gets up and is getting his guard up do ONE heavy puch to break his guard, immediately follow him two steps as he balks backwards and THEN deal a second heavy punch to knock him down. Repeat this until you have Liquid cornered against a ledge where he cannot back up more. Then just heavy punch one-two, one-two every time he gets up and brings his guard up until the first round is over.

Don't punch too early. If you punch early you'll give him the chance to break out of the pattern and counterattack. When you are close it's fine to just block some instead of dodging backwards because you want him as close to the ledge as possible once you counterattack. Ducking to avoid attacks is a better move before your counterattack than to release your guard and then try to counterattack. If you duck too early, duck again. Note however that ducking will not help against his heavy punches or high kicks (weirdly enough).
Follow above and don't punch early and you will come out of round one guaranteed with no damage.

Round 2, the toughest round:
The secret with round two is that Liquid will no longer accept to take damage from two attacks in a row of the same kind. It doesn't matter if there is a delay between the attacks, he seems to remember. Don't do two in a row. Neither will he be cornered. There are exceptions where for example if you time it right you can succeed with two or even three rushattacks in a row but in bold is the rule of thumb for this round. Usually the round starts with Liquid going for a heavypunch if you don't move. Dodge back and then counter with rush attack. There will be quick cutscene where Liquid holds his stomach in agony and that means you have to stay cool for him to heavy punch again. Dodge back and this time you can succeed with two rushattack in a row and follow up with going close and ordinary punches. It's quite rewarding to get this series working - two rush attacks and then punches with a roundkick that sends him flying. Take that you bastard! Other than that, remember, not two in a row.

Round 3:
The worst is now over. This is when Liquid changes stance with one hand high and one low and moves cautiously. Let go of the rushattacks. Go ordinary punches and he is wide open to heavy punches as well. He is a bit scary with his catlike approach but just wait for him and time it right. Be prepared to dodge though. The ordinary punch attacks have never worked so well and it is possible to do subsequent punchattacks.

Round 4
Both dudes are now reeling about and timing is all that matters in this round. L1 is all you need and can perform so wait for the right time. Mostly just the instant the camera swiches over to Snake which means "fight on" press the button faster than Liquid. This is an easy round.

If you want to use COQ in any of the first rounds, then fine, but I found it doesn't give an advantage and sometimes a disadvantage because Liquid comes out standing and close.

Good luck smacking Liquid up! :)

IGN: Konami teases MGS4 Trophy Patch

I really don't want to get my hopes up (I've been doing that for months now) but this is really encouraging. I mean, this game is already so great I've played it for so many hours, but trophies would simply add a whole new dimension to it.

Comments/thoughts?

If I can get trophies from the saves I've already got, rather then repeating the game, I'm in. Otherwise its far to little to late.

Any reason to replay this game is a good reason.

I'm well into double figures on my playthroughs, but I don't fancy re-doing my Big Boss Emblem because of trophies etc. You have just as much fun in the game without them, and chances are many of us have done the things worthy of a platinum. Re-doing them for a few icons? No thanks, I already achieved what I want from the game, and trophies will not add anything more.

I never completed my "Boss Run" because I've been waiting for the trophy patch. I read about this a few days ago, and I didn't get my hopes up.

Much like the cheating going on with their online game, they did something about it... too little, too late.

However, if a patch did come, would I play it again? Probably.

That would be awesome..

So, almost done with the game right now, so emerged into it! In the beginning I found it very weird and a bit boring, but this game unfolds later, very entertaining and exciting game and the numerous easter-eggs are so awesome!

To everybody, who didn't play this game for it's "weirdness"(I know not everybody agrees on this), just give this masterpiece a chance, really worth the time you spend with this game.

Well said, this is one of the best games of all time.

:)

The trophy patch never came. :(

That obviously does not make it any less of an amazing game, but trophies would add a whole different level of depth to it. Best game I have ever played, the wow factor in it is simply without match.

I didn't even notice there are no trophys haha, that's how impressed I was with the game. Well, to be honest, I never cared for trophys, so...

But it does have in-game badges when you complete it that would be the equivalent of the trophies. You just can't show them off as easily.

I remember this game had really REALLY specific things you had to do to get badge! Only played it briefly at a friends though. It is a pity that such a major release never got trophies though. There are quite a few early games I own that I wish had trophies.

Sony were slightly silly in not implementing the trophy system at launch and make it mandatory right away (like it now is). They had seen the xbox achievements system for over a year and I'm surprised they didn't think that the PSN crowd would also want it.

Robin.

True that. I remember trying to get all the badges from MGS3, and all the goodies from MGS1, before the PS3 and achievement times.

What good does trophies serve anyway? I've never cared... should I?

No one should tell you if you should care for them or not. It's a personal thing... I can tell you that I enjoy the challenge of getting (some of) them but in the end it's a matter of personal preference.

If you think of them as special challenges they add some replayability. Otherwise they are just a way to show off to your friends list how good you are at a game.

If that were true in all cases then they would be more widely accepted. A lot of trophies/games simply require you to grind through a lot of repetitive things that aren't necessary a challenge... Think the Resistance 2 "Killing Machine" trophy. You need to get 10,000 kills online, achieving it doesn't necessarily indicate you're good at the game (though you probably will be at the end), it also means that you dedicated a -lot- of hours into getting them, considering there is no way to boost that particular one.

So I guess they too indicate how much time you are willing to invest into getting a digital icon to show in your profile. All in all, I still enjoy getting them, but not to the point to choose my games based on the difficulty/easyness of getting all its trophies.

Well, developers are lazy, which is my biggest issue with trophies/achievements.

We are off topic though.

Good news everyone!

In the face of Metal Gear's 25th birthday, Konami is apparently hard at work on a trophy patch for MGS 4 to be released in time with the game's re-release in Japan under the "Best" label. The patch should work with all models of MGS 4, so get ready to dust off your old copy and earn a trophy as platinum as Snake's hair.

The patch and the re-release are due out in August.

Do not skip cut scene trophy ahoy.

Hey I hope this is true, that would be awesome. Do you have a source?

Wow, just wow, a trophy patch after 4 years, I'm glad I have more reason to play it again, have finished the game more than 20 times .... I'm nuts, another 10 is likely.

^Yes finally, I will replay it when it comes out. Loved MGS4. The multiplayer was awesome but is dead since and got modded in a too japanese way after a few months, Loved the vanilla version of it

Modded multiplayer, where ? I miss the MGO already, how do we play MGO after Konami pulled the plug ?

A new online system with the patch would be amazing

I got it. Hideo Kojima visited Naughty Dog to discuss how they patched in trophies for Uncharted, he's using that knowledge for a MGS4 trophy patch.

I was going to replay it soon but I think I'll wait too. The online mode was great (Peace Walker has a very similar but 6 player only mode, by the way) but the hacks and netcode ruined it for me, so many times I'd be knifing people but it turned out that I was lagging and hadn't even reached the top of the ladder I had been on 10 seconds before or something, then I'd be sniped through five buildings and killed. That actually, seriously, honestly, genuinely happened to me once, I remember it well: It was the last time I ever played!

Oh I do hope they are good trophies :D. Not boring ones like...

"complete the game on easy, meadium, and other mondain things and other things that take soooooo much grinding"
